the art work truly was enchanting. it showcased a couple gazing devotedly at one another as the young woman embraces the young man. they're depicted surrounded by symbols of the newness of spring, including flowers, water, and butterflies.

“when I'd heard of it, it reminded me of us and I couldn't wait to share it with you.” armin goes on, bowing his head down a bit, not entirely sure if you like it or not. now shyingly beaming.

jean snaps out of his trance-like state, feeling the stinging sensation of your finger meeting his forehead. he realizes that you've changed positions, you now lay on your side instead of your back. your face is to his. he can smell the familiar scent of your perfume; it's lavender with hints of lemongrass. it’s the one he bought you.

a moment passes and you go back to your previous spot on the borrowed blanket; gazing at the sky and munching on one of the snacks you'd brought.

truthfully, he’d been staring at you as you went on and on about something he had stopped paying attention to long ago. he watched the way you motioned with your hands, reached for a sip of your drink every once in a while, the way your facial expressions seemed to change, the way the evening sun shun down onto you, hitting the side of your face just right and gave him butterflies.

“jean, you've barely eaten anything”

“I got a bit distracted, sorry” he apologizes, a gentle smile gracing his lips. it was the seemingly trivial moments like these, where he was simply in your presence, that made him fall in love with you over and over again.
