It’s funny how history gets framed, and forgotten, especially in a place changing as fast as Washington, D.C. Alleys in D.C., a Washington Post reporter told us a couple weeks ago, were “once dreaded.” Now they’re becoming “fun, even chic.” Back in the bad old days – which the reporter glosses...
Freddy Gallery, Located In Baltimore, MD -- By Colin Alexander
Since FREDDY Gallery’s theatrical unveiling in June, I’ve been grappling back and forth with my feelings on its approach to the space previously occupied by sophiajacob gallery. I want to open up some sort of forum on the role of this gallery in Baltimore’s arts scene while I am malleable on the subject. My strong feelings stem mostly from the initial exposition press release, in which the gallery’s management defined the curatorial team as an anonymous body that play acted behind the character Freddy (named from the Nightmare on Elm Street film series’ serial dream killer, Freddy Krueger).

Sondheim Semifinalists
Nice review of the Sondheim Semifinalists Show by City Paper, with a nice shoutout and photo of my work. The show closes August 3rd - check it out before it's gone!
I have a new site specific installation in the Sondheim Semifinalists Exhibition, which opens tomorrow at 6pm at MICA's Meyerhoff Gallery - if you're attending Artscape this year, I hope you'll stop by!
This looks cool!
(Also, looking forward to collaborating with EMP Collective for my project RFP! Details here, with more to come: http://rfpbaltimore.wordpress.com/)
Installation shots of a piece I made for the 2013 MAP "Art Stars" benefit at the Morgan Stanley building downtown. It was a treat working directly off the windows and being able to structure a piece in relationship to the architecture and ambient light visible outside.
Install shots for "Edge City" - Pearl Conard Gallery, OSU Mansfield, 2013.
Install shots of a piece I made recently for "The Neighbors" at the American University Art Museum's Katzen Arts Center. Such a beautiful location - I especially enjoyed the gorgeous, diffuse natural light provided by the nearby third floor skylights. Great experience!
Looking forward to staging a big, walk-through installation for this year's Sondheim Semifinalist's Exhibition!
Very excited to be getting rolling on a new project in collaboration with EMP Collective thanks to a grant from the Creative Baltimore fund! We are actively looking for community partners - if your group is interested in putting together a workshop or event in association with this, please get in touch. Look out for RFP events at Artscape and beyond.
RFP is a living artwork that asks: "What makes a strong community?" and "What should the future hold for Baltimore?"
Some of my work is featured in the show "33-35-33" that is currently on view at School 33 (through August 21) - check it out!
