đ¶Â wait it out, bo staloch
âOh, for sure. Gotta be long, especially if it kinda loops at the end. You know?â Steve lifted a hand to run his fingers through the curls at the nape of his neck, tapping his pool cue on the concrete floor.
âSteveââ
âAnd likeâŠa bigger nose, but not too big,â he rattled on, pinching the bridge of his own nose.
âOh my god, Harrington, shutââ
âOh! And definitely gotta be on the taller side, just enough you have to get up on your tiptoes when you want a kiââ
âSTEVEN.â
âHm?â
He gave you the most innocent look he could muster after three drinks, eyes twinkling playfully under the light hanging over the pool table.
âThatâs not me. At all,â you insisted, brows pinched together, annoyed, irritated, a little hot and bothered â but he didnât have to know that.
âHuh, coulda fooled me,â he wondered, faux confusion tugging at his features as he took a swig of beer.
âDidnât your last boyfriendâs nose lean a little, you knowâŠâ Robin hooked her fingers into an L shape and held it up to her face.
âSeriously?â you deadpanned, âNot helping.â
âOh, ho!â Steve declared, pointing at you from across the pool table with his cue in victory, âSee! I knew it.â
âYou donât know it,â you snarked back, downing the last of your tequila soda in one go, âWhatâs it matter anyway, I already said I swore off dating till after Valentineâs.â
Your last boyfriend cheated on you with his brotherâs girlfriend, and it had been the messiest, worst, most embarrassing breakup youâd ever experienced. Cuffing season was coming up, but you couldnât care less. In fact, you were basically banging pots and pans and making a big ruckus about how being single was the best, biggest middle finger you could give to capitalism, and everyone should be doing it.
âJesus, Princess,â Steve faux sighed through a little grin, âNot like anyoneâs asking you out. Weâre just goofinâ, right, Robs?â
âAre we?â she shot back, eyes narrowed, more than aware that heâd been trying to piece together your type ever since you walked into Family Video a couple of months ago.
âSure! Your type is shorter, red hair, eccentric, but very cute outfits, and freckles,â Steve said matter-of-factly, dotting his fingers across his cheeks.
âHm. Yeah, that about sums it up,â she shrugged, and Steve pumped his fist and kept going.
âEddieâs type is glasses, nerdy vibes, knows the lyrics to every Metallica song, and likes his weird bat obsession.â
Eddie snorted and shook his curly head of hair, âOh, now youâre just typecasting us.â
âHang on,â he retorted, finger pointed across the pool table. âYour type,â he started and wheeled around to look at you, making your tummy flip over, âIs exactly what I said before.â
âIt is,â you said, more statement than question, trying your best to keep your expression neutral despite the way the dip of his cupidâs bow had your fingers wanting to reach out and trace the seam of his lips.
âYup,â he confirmed, lining his pool cue up with the 8 ball and knocking it so hard, he missed. âListen, itâs simple. Thereâs this guy that comes in every Friday, Jordan, I think?â he mused, and your cheeks burned.
âSo what?â you asked, neutral stance cracking.
âSo, you get all flustered every time he comes in, and thatâs how I know. Your type is wavy hair with a sort of Roman nose and aboutââ he held a hand just over his head, âYea high.â
âFine, whatever, sounds great,â you admitted, heat licking in your chest, and he grinned.
âSo, Iâm your type then.â
If you thought your cheeks your red earlier, they were scarlet now, and you wanted more than anything for the floor to open up and swallow you whole.
âNoâno, no, no,â you backtracked, wagging a finger at him while his grin grew wider. âYou are not my type. You donât look anything like Jordan,â he did, âAnd anyway, itâs not just about looks! He has to have some shred of humor, an appreciation for cult horror movies, and not subscribe to social constructs.â
âSo, you hate me?â Steve teased, and you bit down on the insides of your lips in an attempt not to shove your foot in its entirety into your mouth.
âI donât hate you,â you insisted.
âAlright, so what donât you like about me? You know, if Iâm not your type.â
âOh, here we go. Câmon, this is gonna be a while,â Robin sighed, shoving at Eddie to go get another drink.
âWell, for one, youâre arrogant,â you started in on him, not caring even one tiny bit that your other two friends had left the conversation.
âOkay, but thatâs not a bad thing. Thatâs basically another word for confident,â Steve swiped a finger through the air in a little check mark, âNext.â
Ever since you started working together at Family Video, you and Steve loved getting under each otherâs skin. Loved needling and teasing and pushing until someone cracked or got flustered enough to want to sort returns at the end of your shift. You swore it was just because he was so annoying and never let you focus, but after youâd had more than a few racy dreams with him front and center, you didnât think you could deny it anymore.
âAnd youâre the most obnoxiously entitled person I know,â you added, already scraping the bottom of the barrel.
âBut you like that,â he countered, setting his pool cue on felt before walking around the pool table, âDonât you?â
âBeing entitled? No,â you insisted, shaking your head as if thatâd help your case.
âWell, I think you like that about me,â he clarified, slowly walking you back. Leaning down, he pressed his hands to the edge of the table and bracketed you in, âYou like that I always get what I want.â
Your heart was racing, warm breaths falling quickly in the tiny space between you, drowning in the scent of his cologne, citrus and cedar, fresh laundry, and leftover coconut sunscreen from standing out front of the store with the 2-for-1 promotion sign.
âWhat do you want, Steve?â you practically whispered, close enough now to see tiny flecks of gold swimming in the hazel of his eyes. Close enough, you could feel the heat from his chest pressing against you.
âWanna guess?â he asked, voice a low rasp that had you pressing your thighs together, head fuzzy from the tequila and the way Steve was talking to you like you were the only two in the bar.
âIâm more of a visual learner,â you managed to tease, feeling yourself giving up the fight and relishing in the way your words had blown his pupils wide, wrecked already even though you hadnât even touched him yet.
âYeah?â he breathed, tongue chasing over his bottom lip.
âMmhm, got any ideas?â
âCan think of a few,â he mused, lifting a hand to tuck a stray lock of hair behind your ear, the touch of his fingers trailing goosebumps over your skin.
âAre you good orâŠ?â Robinâs voice popped the little verbal foreplay bubble you and Steve had gotten lost in, and both of you looked up at her like deer in the headlights.
âWhat?â Steve asked dumbly, still hovering over you, and Eddie choked on his beer.
âWill you guys just get the hell out of here already? Holy shit.â
âYeah, you gotta go,â Robin agreed, âThe bartender was about to order you a cab.â
You both looked up to see the older, grizzled man behind the bar thrust his hips once before giving you two big thumbs up.
âOh my god,â you moaned, covering your face with your hands.
âGross!â Steve yelled at him. âAnd we will go, thank you,â he turned back to Robin and Eddie, tone trending bitchy and moving to prop a hand on his hip. âCâmon.â
Holding a hand out to you, you looked at it, then back up at Steve.
âSeriously?â you asked, half-serious, half-joking, and he grinned, eyes flickering again in the low light.
âSeriously.â
You thought about what it would be like to be with Steve. Even if you werenât âtogetherâ together. What would happen at work, between your friends, around town. You thought of how awkward it might be if it didnât work out, how you might have to avoid him for a while and hide under a rock, but then it hit you.
Nothing was worse than your boyfriend cheating on you with his brotherâs girlfriend.
âYeah, weâre gonna go,â you agreed, digging in your purse for a wad of cash to shove into Robinâs hand, âFor the drinks.â Then, you grabbed Steveâs hand, tangling your fingers together and leaning into your liquid courage. âLetâs go, Harrington, you drive.â
âYes, maâam,â he answered so fast his words briefly overlapped yours, letting you drag him to the door.
âHave fun! Donât be stupid!â Robin hollered after you.
âWrap your tool!â Eddie added, and Steve flipped him off.
âI always do, Munson!â
âPoint for you,â you said over your shoulder, and Steve squeezed at your hand.
âDamn right point for me.â

A/N: I seem to be on a Eddie kick at the moment. And I wrote this last night, when I couldn't sleep. So forgive me if its rambly or not that good. But I had to get it out if my head. I'm doing my best to work through writers block, and lack of motivation đ
Summary: a party game leads to feelings coming out.
Warning/s: ooc, au, rambling, possible spelling/grammar mistakes
âAlright children, the game is suck and blow" Steve's obnoxious, trying to be cool, voice tried to reach over the music from the other room.
Nancy had talked you into coming, and because of that, your best friend Eddie had to tag along. Something about watching the sheep, but really it was to look out for you.
Besides yourself, Eddie, Nancy and Steve, there was Jonathan, Robin and a few others from your year sitting in a small circle. Which was fine, perfect really, before stupid Carol and Tommy joined.
They sat across from you and Eddie. Carol was giving you the stink eye, no doubt silently questioning why you and Eddie were there. But at the end of the day, it was Steve's party. And you were all cool.
âAh, how do we play?â Tina spoke up, sounding clueless.
Steve looked at her thinking she was joking, but the confused look spoke volumes. âAlright, well, you take this playing card" â he holds up a ten of clubs between two fingers â âhold it to your lips and suck, keeping it in place. Then you turn to the person next to you, place lips to lips. But obviously, the card is in the way. Then blow, when the person before you sucks, taking the card from you. Got it?â
Tina blinked before slowly nodding, on some level understanding. At least eighty percent of the circle had kept up with Steve. Everyone shifted, getting ready to start the game. Of course Steve started it off, off-loading the playing card to Nancy, who then passed it to Jonathan.
You watched when Carol got the card, and went to pass it to Tommy. Only she accidentally miss timed her blow, and the card fell as their lips met. Your stomach churned watching the two idiots go from kissing to full on sucking face.
âAlright, alright! Enough!â Robin called, looking like she was about to be sick.
You snickered at your friend, but also felt unease with their open display. You glanced at Eddie, who had decided to spark up a joint. Before he could take his first draw, you stole it from him.
âHey!?â He said in protest, and not anger.
You grinned and took a hit, blowing the smoke in his face. âWhat?â
Eddie rolled his eyes and snatched back his joint. Finally getting to enjoy his weed, while the game was reset. This time Steve sent the card around the opposite way, just to avoid his ex-friends for the moment.
Vickie received the card from Steve, before turning to some guy to pass it on. Thankfully everyone was playing the game correctly. You received the card from another random guy, and then turned to Eddie.
Something flickered in his eyes for the briefest moment, then it was gone. Quickly he leaned in, and with it you could smell the smoke of his joint mixed with that aftershave you liked. Maybe it was his smell, along with the alcohol and a hit if a joint, your head began to swim.
For a moment you were thinking and feeling those things youâd repressed when it came to your best friend. For the last four years you had started to look and think about Eddie differently, like romantically.
But it was just that. Looking, thinking and feeling. You wouldnât, couldnât ruin the friendship. Because losing Eddie would be like losing a limb. And yet, at times, youâd indulge in those thoughts. And in turn, it would be upsetting. Then you would lock it all up again.
In that moment, lost in those thoughts and feelings, Eddie leaned in and you slipped. You forgot to suck, and air that left your lungs caused the card to slip, falling between you and Eddieâs lips, which came into contact.
When it registered, his lips pressed to yours, your eyes widened. Then Eddieâs eyes widened. Those all around you fell quiet, holding their breathes. Along with yourself and your best friend.
This was new territory. Or was it stepping over the line? You werenât sure, maybe not entirely caring right now. Because you and Eddie were kissing. Two best friends, lips pressed together, but not moving.
Then you felt it, his lips pressing firmer to your own. And then Eddie tilting his head a little, the kiss becoming more. You could hear the murmurs around you, but the way your heart was racing, was louder.
It should be wrong. But it felt so right. All those thoughts, all the feelings, and they were nothing compared to the real thing. Then when Eddieâs tongue entered your mouth, my lord. All was definitely right in the world â this world, between you both.
But then reality came rushing back in. The sound of distant music and laughter. Then awareness of everybody in the circle around you. And Eddie, kissing you. You heard Carol's laughter, loud and sharp.
Snapping back you looked at Eddie, and then to Carol and Tommy. Who were thoroughly amused by the show youâd just put on. Then you glanced at all the other faces, which ranged from horror to surprise. Steve and Robin, the most surprised.
âI-I, I...â you sputtered, words lodged in your throat.
Carol let out a loud snort and more laughter. To which both Robin and Steve told her to knock it off and shut up. But the damage was done. The tough exterior you wore crumbled, and that insecure girl came out. Which only Eddie ever saw.
You scrambled to your feet, and took off. Anywhere was better than facing Carol and Tommy. You heard voices calling your name, telling you to stay. But you couldnât.
You moved through the bodies of various students, and then finally escaping out the front door. Down the steps, along the path and almost to the curb when a larger hand grabbed your upper arm. You were spun around to face a worried Eddie Munson.
âSweetheart, wowâ he said in a hurry, moving closer to you. Eyes looking over your face.
You tried to get free, but when you couldnât, you pushed Eddie back. Who let go and staggered back a little.
âGeeze, what was that for?â Worry laced every word, and a touch of hurt.
âD-donâtâ you managed to get out while shaking your head. âDonât act so, so unbothered!â
âUnbothered? Unbothered by what!?â Eddie said sharper then intended.
You stepped back. âOh donât act dumb, Eddie! Y-you know!â
Eddie blinked, before running a hand through his hair while letting out a noise in frustration. He knew what you meant, and that he was acting dumb. But he was trying to figure it all out. Or rather, figure out how to tell you the truth.
âFine!â He threw up his hands. âI know! I know exactly what youâre talking about. That kiss!â
You swallowed, eyes widening. The urge to run rising but the way your best friend was looking at you â his gaze locking you in place. Youâd never seen Eddie look at you like that.
Anger, frustration, fear. But also that something else. It all swam in those damn eyes of his.
âAlright, so we kissed" Eddie huffed. âIt happened and-â
âLast time I checked, friends donât kissâ you stated calmly. To calmly.
Eddie blinked. Your words hitting his ears, but taking a moment to process. And it put you on edge. Because what would he say to that? Did those words hurt him? As they hit you a little deeply.
Last time I checked, friends donât kiss...
It was the truth. But a truth you didnât want to believe. Then you remembered how you didnât want to ruin your friendship.
âI-I should go...â you muttered, looking away from Eddie.
But before you could move, he snapped out of his daze. âNo! W-we have to talk about this!â
You heard him yet kept moving. You turned and walked to the side walk, and headed in the direction of your home. All the while Eddie was hot on your heels. He was ranting, like Eddie always did. Some of it you could make out, and others you couldnât. But you didnât stop.
âWould you stop! And talk to me!â Eddie's voice rang out in the quiet street. To which you finally halted.
You took a few deep breathes. âT-there's nothing to talk about".
Eddie let out a string of words in frustration, before moving around to stand before you. He grabbed a hold of your upper arms, face leaning down and into line with yours.
âNothing to talk about!? Really!?â He was very annoyed. âBecause we kissed! Thatâs something we should talk about".
Finally you lifted your gaze to meet his. And you could see the worry and hurt, but also that something from earlier. Only it wasnât going away.
You sighed, breath coming out shaking. âF-fine...we, we kissed...â
Now Eddie sighed. âYeah, we did...â
Now you both were skirting around it. Even after Eddie was the one to bring it up. You continued to look at the other, watching each other. You swallowed, about to speak but Eddie seemed to beat you to the punch.
âW-was it bad?â He asked softly, almost scared. âThe kiss, I mean...â
Slowly you shook your head. âN-no...I-it was fine".
âJust fine?â Eddie pushed.
You took a moment to think about it. Remembering how good his lips felt, how right it was. How it gave you butterflies, and made your heart skip a beat. And how it just proved your feelings for the metal head.
âIt was...perfect" you admitted softly. âI-it felt right...â
Hearing those words from your mouth made Eddie's heart skip a beat. âYeah? Seriously?â There was hope dripping from every letter.
Slowly you nodded your head, eyes showing him the truth â that you werenât lying.
A bright smile formed on Eddieâs lips, and before you could say another word, he was leaning in and kissing you again. Only this time it was on purpose. It was by choice. And you were accepting it.
When there was no fight back, Eddie drew you closer. His arms wrapping around you, as your arms moved to wrap around his neck. The kiss grew deeper, his tongue entering your mouth and taking charge.
You were lost, lost in Eddie. Your best friend, the boy of your dreams. And for him, you were the girl of his dreams.
Soon Eddie pulled back, you both breathing a little heavy. He looked down at you like you hung the moon. And that was when you finally worked out what that look in his eyes was. It was love.
âYouâre my best friend sweetheart" Eddie spoke up softly. âAnd always will be. But I canât help feeling more for you...â
You smiled softly up at him. âSame here, idiot...â
That was it. A stupid party game led to this moment. One were you finally got out that you both were in love with the other. Though not exactly in those words. But good enough.

Eddie Munson was, without a doubt, the coolest person Dustin Henderson had ever met.
Confident and wholly unafraid to be himself, the long-haired metalhead spit in the face of conformity and did it with style and flair.
Nobody else in Hawkins shone quite as bright as the gritty diamond of Forest Hills â a true renaissance type who could shred an electric guitar like a virtuoso then turn around and help you hotwire a car.
As an only child, Dustin looked up to Eddie like the older brother heâd never had. He idolized the self-proclaimed âfreakâ and (to Steve Harringtonâs dismay) made no secret of his admiration.
From copying Eddieâs hairstyle and clothing to listening to heavy metal at top volume in his room (to his motherâs dismay), Dustin swore that someday he was going to be just like his beloved Dungeon Master.
But then one day something happened that turned Dustinâs whole world upside down â Eddie started acting strange.
And it wasnât just a weird mood or temporary shift in demeanor that could be shrugged off or easily explained. It was as if heâd been transformed into a completely different person overnight.
As much as Dustin was a creature of habit, he understood that it was a normal part of life for people to evolve and mature over time â but the sudden change in his friendâs personality was striking.
Eddie had been single for a couple of years following a painful breakup with his first true love, an experience that had left him jaded when it came to matters of the heart. Following the split, heâd sworn off relationships forever in his usual dramatic fashion.
But those werenât just empty words â he really meant it.
Instead of dating, he spent his free time creating diabolical D&D campaigns and practicing lead guitar and vocals for his band Corroded Coffin. When he needed a more physical type of release, he relied on the comfort of his own hand â maybe not as good as the real thing, but at least old lefty would never break his heart.
He grew accustomed to leading a solitary life and swore he didnât need anyone.
Of course, that all changed when Delilah Lovelace moved to town.
Nobody knew all that much about the mysterious, new resident of the previously abandoned Creel House, but her arrival in Hawkins had been the subject of fervent interest.
The rundown mansion had sat abandoned and in disrepair for years after Victor Creel had been sent to prison for murdering his family, so it was a surprise to see it newly occupied by a single, young woman who lived alone.
Everyone assumed she must be wealthy because she launched an extensive renovation of the crumbling old house right away, hiring a slew of contractors and tradespeople to restore it to its former glory.
As far as careers, Delilah â or Lilah as she preferred to be called, opened a new lingerie shop in Starcourt Mall, a move that scandalized the townâs more uptight citizens.
Rumors swirled around the tight-knit community about Lilahâs each and every move. Her mystique only aided by the fact that she was gorgeous â a striking beauty with piercing green eyes.
Predictably, the eligible bachelors of Hawkins were taken with the townâs alluring new resident, strutting their stuff around her like colorful peacocks in the hopes of winning her attention.
But Lilah wasnât interested in any of them.
Right off the bat she had set her eyes on another, much more lucrative prize â a bewildered metalhead who didnât seem to understand what was happening.
Lilah pursued Eddie relentlessly to the surprise of everyone in town â including him.
She followed him around, planting herself front row center at all of Corroded Coffinâs shows and dropping by the garage where he worked almost daily with flimsy excuses to get him to take a look at her car.
There was no way in hell she needed an oil change that often.
Nobody could understand what a glorious creature like Lilah Lovelace saw in the humble mechanic, a guy who most people in town referred to at best as a âfreakâ when they were feeling generous.
Eddie had been granted some grace in recent years due to his role fighting in the battle against Vecna, sustaining serious injuries in his heroic efforts to save the town. But a few years had passed since then and that was a chapter in Hawkinsâ history most people tried to forget. In fact, the majority tended to act like it had never happened at all.
As it was, Eddie didnât have much to offer. He didnât come from a good family name or money or social status or, well, anything. No one could imagine him and Lilah as a couple â it just didnât make sense.
At first Eddie didnât pay any attention to her advances. Still nursing a broken heart, he insisted that heâd meant it when heâd sworn off love forever. Besides, Delilah Lovelace wasnât exactly his type.
Polished and flashy in designer clothes, zooming around town in a shiny, little sports car, she was exactly the kind of person Eddie had always dismissed as superficial and boring.
He let her down gently at every turn, but he soon found out that when Lilah decided she wanted something, she never gave up.
One night at a crowded bar where Corroded Coffin were playing in a variety show, she managed to corner Eddie after his set and surprised him with a stolen kiss on the lips. Her intoxicating perfume and sweet licorice lip gloss, paired with the soft crush of her breasts against his chest had finally done him in.
After that night theyâd been inseparable.
Once they started dating, Eddieâs friends noticed an almost immediate change in his personality. He quit most of his vices, like drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes and weed. Which was all well and good, but then he started to give up on other things, like the hobbies and pastimes heâd previously enjoyed.
Thatâs when things started to get really weird.
He missed Hellfire Club meetings without bothering to call ahead or make up an excuse. And he stopped playing music, his bandmates reporting that he hadnât shown up to a practice in weeks. Rumor even had it, according to Jeff, that Eddie had been talking about pawning his precious Warlock guitar â news that Dustin found inconceivable.
Meanwhile, Eddie walked around as if he was in a daze, his usual colorful nature toned down and dull. Even his choice of clothing began to reflect his new, bland personality.
He got rid of his beloved band t-shirts and leather, opting for a more preppy, clean-cut style. His ripped jeans were soon replaced with pleated slacks, his sneakers with spotless leather loafers.
And in the final, devastating blow, he cut off all his long, wild and wavy hair.
The first time Dustin had spied Eddie with shorn locks buzzed close to his head, the last remaining piece of his heart had finally broken.
That wasnât the Eddie Munson he knew and loved â that guy had to be an imposter or an alien clone like some weird Invasion of the Body Snatchers type of shit.
Mike and Lucas rolled their eyes when Dustin sounded the alarm, informing him that it was normal for guys to start acting different when they got a serious girlfriend. But Dustin made sure to remind them that Suzie, the light of his life, would never ask him to change anything about himself.
Unsure of what to do, Dustin decided to go see the person Eddie trusted and respected more than anyone. Surely Wayne Munson would be able to talk some sense into his nephew.
Dustin borrowed his motherâs car and drove out to Forest Hills late one afternoon, hoping to catch Wayne before he left for his night shift at the plant. He arrived in time to find the older man sitting on the trailerâs front porch having a smoke.
âI donât like it much either son, but sometimes love just messes with you,â Wayne drawled, taking a long drag off his cigarette as he squinted into the distance. âIâll admit Iâm not her biggest fan, but Eddieâs sweeter on her than a peach in July.â
Dustin couldnât accept it.
âBut it doesnât make any sense. Ever since she showed up, itâs like heâs not even Eddie anymore.â
Wayne hummed in agreement, watching as a sleek Mustang convertible threw clouds of dust up from under its tires as it rapidly approached.
âSpeak of the devil,â he muttered under his breath, butting out his cigarette with a deep sigh.
When the car came to a stop in front of the trailer, Eddie quickly got out then headed around to the driverâs side where Lilah had her window rolled all the way down.
She leaned her head out and puckered her glossy lips. âNow donât forget about our date tonight, Eddie Weddie.â
She fluttered her long lashes at him demurely, ignoring the two men who were watching the scene play out from the trailerâs front porch.
âIâd never forget my Pookie Wookie.â Eddie smiled, joining his forefingers and thumbs in the shape of a heart in front of his polo shirt-clad chest.
Dustin stared at his friend, face twisted in a mixture of shock and disgust. âOk, I think Iâm going to hurl.â
As Lilahâs car pulled away with a jaunty little toot of her horn, Eddie walked up the front steps of the trailer.
When he got close to Wayne, he tutted at his uncle who had just lit another cigarette, plucking it from between his lips and tossing it to the ground.
âWayne, weâve talked about those. You need to quit.â
The normally taciturn older man grumbled under his breath, his cheeks flushing red with anger. âSon, you mind your business while youâre living under my roof.â
Eddie steeled himself, squaring his shoulders and narrowing his eyes at his uncle. âThatâs another thing Iâve been meaning to talk to you aboutââ
âUh hey, Eddie?â Dustin interjected, interrupting the standoff with his hands raised like he was approaching a wild animal. âYou want to go inside and maybe talk about the campaign for tomorrow night? We were hoping maybe youâd be able to join us?â
Eddie gave Dustin a blank look then blinked a few times, slowly as if struggling to understand. âCampaign? Do you mean D&D?â
When Dustin nodded, Eddie shook his head. âNo, I thought I told you. I wonât be doing that anymore.â
âWhat? But youâre our DM. You canât just quit on us!â Dustin cried.
Eddie shrugged. âToo late. I already got rid of all that junk.â
âWhat? Where is it?â Dustin cried, grabbing onto his head with both hands in despair. âDonât tell me you threw it out?â
Eddieâs tone was careless. âYeah, itâs in the trash out back. Lilah doesnât think I should waste my time on that kind of stuff anymore and sheâs right. Who knows what kind of dangerous things we might be messing with.â
Dustin stared at him open-mouthed.
âNow, if youâll both excuse me, I need to go have a shower.â
With that Eddie walked through the trailer door, letting it slam shut behind him.
âShowering all the damn time,â Wayne grumbled under his breath. âUsing up all the gd hot water.â
Dustin walked down the trailer steps, dejection and confusion weighing on his mind.
Remembering what Eddie had told him, he headed out back where he found a large metal trashcan propped against the trailer. After rummaging through it for a few minutes, he eventually found a stack of Eddies D&D notebooks, his denim battle vest and what looked to be at least fifty heavy metal cassettes.
Dustin could hardly believe what he was seeing, but the evidence was right in front of his face. Eddie had really just thrown it all away like it was garbage.
Under Wayneâs watchful eye, he loaded the pile of discarded items into the backseat of his motherâs car, then headed towards home with a heavy heart.
After dealing with strange happenings in Hawkins over the years, Dustin had just about seen it all and was finely attuned to when things didnât feel right.
And something was off.
Most people probably would have dismissed it as hormones or puppy love or whatever bullshit they wanted to use as an excuse, but Dustin knew something more sinister was going on.
Whatever it was, he suspected Lilah was involved and knew he couldnât face it alone. Desperate times called for desperate measures and there was only one person left in Hawkins who might be able to help him save his friend.
âAbsolutely not.â
You shook your head at the young man standing in front of you, unmoved by his desperate pleas.
âCome on,â Dustin begged, clasping his hands in front of his chest. âYou know him better than anyone.â
âKnew him,â you corrected, before quickly looking away. âAnd Iâm sorry, the answerâs still no.â
Dustin being who he was, couldnât let it go that easily.
He glanced around the otherwise empty shop and then back at where you were standing behind the counter, a hand on your hip and an unimpressed look on your face.
âIâm telling you, itâs serious. Itâs like heâs been brainwashed or something.â
You scoffed. âHeâd have to have a brain for that to work.â
A large smile broke out over Dustinâs face. âYou know, Iâm really glad youâre back.â
You werenât so sure the feeling was mutual.
After your great aunt Flora had passed away, youâd returned to Hawkins to sort out affairs with the small apothecary shop and apartment sheâd left you in her will. Already dealing with the loss of your beloved relative, you werenât thrilled at the prospect of getting pulled into matters concerning the very person youâd spent the last two years trying to avoid.
You narrowed your eyes at Dustinâs optimistic expression. âThis is only temporary â and donât look at me like that.â
But he didnât listen to your grouchy command, his smile only growing wider as his bright eyes filled with hope.
You hummed with trepidation, fighting a grin as you protectively crossed your arms in front of your chest. You hadnât seen Dustin since youâd broken up with Eddie and you had missed him, even though you would never admit it.
You shrugged. âI donât know, to me it just sounds like Eddie finally got the cutesy girlfriend he always wanted. Heâs a fraud â sorry it took you so long to figure it out.â
Dustin raised his voice slightly due to frustration. âBut, thatâs what Iâm trying to tell you â itâs not Eddie. Sheâs done something to him, I know it. Nobody changes that much overnight!â
You let out a sigh, trying to remain patient. Dustin had always been like a dog with a bone once he got an idea in his head.
âI know itâs hard to accept, but maybe you need to let him go, like I did. He isnât who either of us thought he was.â
If anyone knew about being let down by Eddie, it was you.
You had met him a few years earlier when youâd moved to town after graduating from college. Back then youâd been lacking in direction, unsure of what you wanted to do with your life.
Your great aunt Flora was an expert herbalist who ran a small but thriving apothecary shop in Hawkins, her teas and elixirs legendary in the small town for their medicinal and healing properties.
Youâd always been fascinated by her store when youâd visited as a child, taken with all the beautiful crystals and fragrant herbs on display. So when she had offered you a chance to live with her and help out with the store, youâd jumped at the opportunity.
In recent years sheâd been finding it harder to manage the store alone in her older age, so the arrangement had worked out well for everyone â you got the job you desperately needed and she got the extra help.
Under her tutelage, you had discovered a passion for natural remedies and herbal medicine. You had also met the person youâd thought was the love of your life.
Eddie had come into the shop one fateful afternoon looking for something to aid with the healing of his scars. When your eyes had met over the display of herbal ointments itâd been like the stars had finally aligned.
Yours had been a whirlwind romance â heâd nervously asked you out on a date that very afternoon and before long you had both fallen hard and fast for each other.
At the time it had felt like the two of you were soulmates, destined to meet across space and time. Looking back, you wondered how you could have ever been so wrong.
It was strange; your intuition was usually spot on about people and situations, and youâd never felt such a strong connection to anyone before in your life. Your relationship had been nearly a year of pure emotion, electric attraction and endless laughter.
It had also been a lie.
When Eddie had unceremoniously dumped you on the eve of your one year anniversary, the resulting heartbreak had nearly done you in. The worst part was that you hadnât seen it coming.
Things had been going so well in your relationship that the two of you had been making plans for a future together. Then one day without warning, heâd just suddenly pulled away.
After youâd left town, youâd sworn you would never let yourself feel that type of pain again. And you werenât about to relive it all on account of Dustin Hendersonâs overdramatic ass.
âIf youâd just come with me to see himââ
âDustin, youâre always welcome here but no more talk about him, please? Itâs stillââ Your gaze dropped to the floor. âI just canât.â
You quickly turned around, pretending to sort through a stack of old invoices to hide the tears that burned your eyes. Thinking about Eddie was something you tried to avoid, the memories a painful wound you could already feel reopening.
âOk, but can I just say one last thing before I go?â Dustin pleaded.
You sighed with a roll of your eyes. âFine, but make it quick. As you can see, Iâm very busy.â
Dustin glanced around the empty shop, not sure what business you were referring to, but decided to keep that thought to himself.
âHe threw away his music.â
Your hand froze on the papers youâd been shuffling. âWhat do you mean?â
âHe got rid of all his tapes. Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden â every single one. I found them in the trash can behind his trailer. His D&D notebooks and battle vest too.â
You stood with you back still turned, biting your lip, debating whether or not to take the bait. You reminded yourself that you didnât care what Eddie did or didnât do. That it wasnât any of your business anymore.
He was free to change his taste in music and clothing. It was probably the influence of his new girlfriend, the infamous Lilah, Hawkins own answer to the goddess of love. You hadnât been able to avoid hearing the rumors about them since youâd arrived back in town. She seemed like the kind of person he wouldnât have given a second glance before, but you knew all too well that Eddieâs word didnât mean anything.
âIâm sorry, Dustin, thereâs nothing I can do,â you muttered, back still turned to avoid his gaze. âTry to have a nice day, ok?â
Dustin nodded, reluctantly turning to leave. You heard the bell over the entrance chime as he hesitated in the doorway.
âHe cut off all of his hair. Short.â
To Dustinâs astonishment, you spun around, wide eyes trained on his.
Eddie wasnât sure if heâd ever be able to say no to you. And he also wasnât sure if heâd ever even want to.Â
You would come knocking on his trailer door in the middle of the night and heâd always answer. Maybe he could even admit that sometimes he was anticipating your three quick knocks; waiting for them.Â
This night was no different. You were at his door a little after midnight, and he could tell that you had just come from a party; the short black dress you were wearing made it obvious.Â
You smiled at him when he opened the door. âHi.â
âHi,â Eddie said, returning the smile while also pretending that he wasnât so deeply affected by the way you looked so happy to see him. âShould I feel concerned that youâre here right now, or just happy?â
âDefinitely just happy,â You told him. âEverythingâs fine.â
He wasnât sure if he fully believed that, especially when he noticed your slightly puffy eyes. âWere you crying?â
âYeah, but itâs stupid,â You said as you shook your head and wiped haphazardly at your cheeks. âReally, really stupid.â
âWhat did he do this time?â Eddie didnât hesitate to ask.Â
Hearing that made you give him a small smile, and it was a smile that Eddie loved getting from you. âYou donât think it could be me that did something wrong?â
âNot really, no,â He answered, and right after the short statement left his mouth, he wondered if those three words said everything. If they said how much he liked you, and how, in his eyes, no, there was nothing that you could do wrong. He wondered if you could see all of that subtext to his words, and he continued before you could potentially look that deep into them. âConsidering his track record.â
âWell, youâre right,â You said with a quiet sigh. âHe was an idiot tonight, and honestly, I donât really wanna talk about it.â
âWanna smoke?â Eddie asked, and you didnât hesitate to nod.Â
âNow that sounds like a great idea.â
Thirty minutes later, you two were sitting at the foot of Eddieâs bed, going back and forth taking the last few hits of the joint that he expertly rolled for you two, and then you were standing up and starting to wander around his cluttered room.Â
One of the first few times you and Eddie got high together, he noticed how curious you got; asking whatever random questions came to mind and always exploring whatever space the two of you were inâ most of the time it was his room.Â
You looked at the Corroded Coffin poster that hung on his wall. âWhen will you let me come to one of your shows?â
âOnce we build somewhat of a following, and Iâm certain that it wonât just be you in the crowd,â He was mostly joking with his words, but he could inwardly admit that there was some truth to the statement.
âI hope you know that Iâd scream and cheer you guys on so loud that it would feel like the room was full of at least fifty people.â
He couldnât help but laugh. âIâd actually love to see that.â
âWell, maybe Iâll just surprise pop up at The Hideout one Tuesday night,â You said as you went to his bed again, lying down so that your head was at the foot of the bed.Â
You stared up at the ceiling, and Eddieâs eyes were on his messy floor. He shouldâve suggested watching a movie or listening to some music. Nine times out of ten, that was what he would do, and youâd sway one way or the other depending on what type of mood you were in. But suddenly, there was a question that was racking his brain, and in this moment, he couldnât think of anything else.Â
âHey, can I ask you something?â He asked, taking a quick glance at you. âAnd feel free to tell me to fuck off if you hate the question.â
You shook your head at him as you let out an amused laugh. âI could never tell you to fuck off.â
Your words sounded honest, but Eddie wondered just how true they were. âWhy are you with him?â
You were quiet at first, and Eddie immediately thought that his question was too much, that it crossed the imaginary line that sat between you and him and offended you entirely. However, before he could backtrack and say a quick, âNever mind, forget I asked that,â you were speaking.Â
âSometimes he kinda sucks and we disagree about stupid things, but he also just, I donât know, he makes me really happy too,â You answered, and there was a small smile on your face that Eddie couldnât look away from. âYou know that kind of, like⊠giddy feeling you get when you see someone you really like?â
âYeah,â Eddie nodded simply at your question. âI feel that way with you,â was what he wanted to add, but he didnât; he couldnât.Â
âThatâs how I get with him.â
It was Eddieâs turn to get quiet for a moment, even though he definitely shouldâve seen that response coming.Â
âThatâs nice,â He ultimately responded when it felt as if he was quiet for way too long.Â
âAnd disgustingly sappy,â You rolled your eyes at yourself. âI know, I know.â
âNo, itâs sweet,â He told you, which was true. Sadly, that was probably one of the sweetest things heâd ever heard.Â
âThank you for not making fun of me,â You responded with a soft laugh and then shifted on the bed so that you were lying on your stomach and looking up at him. âHey, can I change into something of yours? I really wanna get out of this dress.âÂ
He didnât hesitate to nod and went to grab a t-shirt and shorts for you and then you headed into his bathroom to put it on. Eddie sat down on his bed again and he let out a quiet sigh as he leaned back against his pillows. He wasnât entirely sure what he was doing anymore, and that was actually being generous because he wasnât sure if he ever knew what he was doing when it came to you.Â
The first time you two talkedâ at a party that he was selling atâ the conversation lasted for hours. Youâd gotten into an argument with your boyfriend, something that Eddie quickly learned was a typical occurrence, and he found you sulking in the backyard. He considered just leaving you be, but then he was asking if you were okay, and you answered with a halfhearted shrug. He then asked if you wanted to talk, and you gave him another shrug, but didnât say no. You two ended up smoking weed while sitting on the curb next to his van and talking about nonsense until a friend came to drag you home. But not before he told you where he lived and said that if you ever wanted to talk again, you should come by.Â
A sort of routine formed from there. Youâd knock, and Eddie was always there to answer; most times, he and you would smoke as you two watched a movie in his home or listened to music, but sometimes youâd end up just talking about whatever came to mind.  Â
Eddie liked spending time with you, and he knew that he shouldnât look into all of your late-night hangouts as more than simply just that. But sometimes it was hard not to.Â
âHe forgot my birthday,â Your voice broke through Eddieâs thoughts.
He turned his head, looking at you standing in his doorway, and his brows furrowed. âWhat?â
âThatâs why me and him fought tonight,â You started explaining as you leaned against the doorframe. âI thought he was planning this whole thing for my birthday because he wasnât talking about it, and then he mentioned going to this party tonight, and I was convinced that he had set something up. But then we literally did just go to a stupid party and he completely forgot about my birthday.â
âItâs your birthday?â
âWell, technically, itâs over now since itâs one in the morning, but yeah, it was.â
âIâm sorry,â Eddie rushed out. âI forgot too.â
You shook your head at him, and a quiet laugh fell from your lips. âYou canât forget something that I never even told you about.â
âStill,â Eddie said as he stood up from his bed. âWait here.â
He walked past you and headed into the kitchen, going into the small pantry and grabbing one of the Hostess cupcakes from the box that Wayne always bought, and then he managed to find a stray candle in one of the drawers. He unwrapped the cupcake and put the candle in it, and then pulled the lighter out of his pocket and lit the candle once he was standing in front of you.Â
âEddie,â You said, shaking your head, but there was a smile tugging at your lips. âYou donât have to do this.â
âYou deserve some sort of fanfare for your birthday.â
âThank you,â You told him softly. You blew out the candle and then pulled him in for a hug, which surprised Eddie, but he didnât hesitate to hug you back. âThank you a lot.âÂ
His arms circled your waist, and he gave you a tight squeeze because he could tell that you needed it. âYeah, of course.â
It was two days later when Eddie heard from you again, and it was in the form of a phone call, which was rare.Â
âWeâre having a party,â You told him, referring to you and your roommates; Eddie still wasnât entirely sure how the five of you made it work in what you told him was âsuch a small house.â âAnd I want you to come just to come, and they want you to come to sell. Feel free to tell me to fuck off if you already have plans tonight.â
âIâd never tell you to fuck off,â Eddie responded, mimicking your words from a few nights ago. âIâll be there.â
You were the one who opened the door for him when he showed up to your place an hour into the party. You smiled as you pulled him in for a quick hug the moment he stepped over the threshold. Â
You still had the same happy smile on your face when you pulled back and met his eyes. âCome find me when youâre done with your rounds.â
Eddie nodded at your words, and then you were off, heading toward the kitchen because someone had called your name.Â
He found you thirty minutes later. You were outside, leaning against the railing of the back porch and staring out into the small backyard. Â
âHey,â Eddie grabbed your attention, making you turn, and the smile that took over your face made his heart practically constrict in his chest. âI saved something for you.â
He pulled out a joint from his jacket pocket and was about to hand it over to you, but you shook your head.Â
âIâve decided to only do one bad thing tonight.â You pointed to your cup that was sitting on the wooden railing. âPlus, sometimes I just wanna talk to you. We donât always have to smoke while we do it.â
âOh, I thought that was a requirement,â Eddie joked, and you playfully swatted his denim-covered arm. âIâm kidding, Iâm kidding.â
You took a sip of whatever was in your red plastic cup, and when you set it back down on the railing, it was then that Eddie could tell that you were a little drunk. There was a slight sway to your movementsâ not worryingly so, just like you were having a good time. And then there were your next words that confirmed your slight inebriation.Â
âYouâre kind of like my best friend,â You told him, voice soft, which contrasted the sound of the loud music inside that you two could faintly hear through the shut back door. âSometimes it feels like I can only talk to you about certain things.â
Maybe Eddie wasnât giving you enough credit, and you wouldâve also admitted this to him if you were sober. Either way, he nodded at your words. âI feel the same way.â
He decided against calling you out on the fact that it wouldâve probably made more sense if you felt that way with your literal boyfriend. Instead, his eyes traveled downward a little and noticed the necklace you were wearing. Eddie could tell that it was new because it looked that way, and it also looked expensive, and he had never seen you wear it before.Â
âNice necklace.â
âThanks,â You said as your fingers came up to touch the silver chain and the small red heart pendant that hung from it. âHe got it for me to make up for the whole birthday thing.â
âThatâs good,â Eddie responded. âYou forgive him?â
âYeah,â You nodded and then shrugged. âToo hard to stay mad.â
The only thing Eddie could do was nod at that, and then he looked away from you and stared out into the dark backyard. He was going to ask you where your boyfriend was tonight; was he somewhere at this party? However, your sudden squeal broke the brief quietness instead. The sound was startling, and Eddie looked at you, and then his unasked question was answered.Â
Steve had his arms wrapped around you from behind, and he was lifting you with the widest grin on his face. You seemed to quickly recognize it was him because the scared look on your face dropped after a moment, and you let out a shocked laugh.Â
âYou scared the shit out of me,â You said when he let you down, and you turned to face him. There was a small frown on your face, but there was no animosity behind it, and you still pushed up on your toes to pull him in for a hug.Â
Steve laughed as his arms circled your waist. âThat was the plan.âÂ
A conversation played out between the two of you that Eddie tried his hardest not to listen to, but it was kind of hard not toâ you asking Steve what he was doing here because he was supposed to be at Robinâs college for the weekend, and him answering with, âShe ditched me for a date, so I got to leave early,â which made you laugh in response.Â
âHey, Munson,â Steve said as you settled yourself into his side, like you were meant to be there. âI hope youâre not up-charging her for weed.âÂ
âI give her the friend discount,â Eddie said, and he didnât feel the need to specify that that meant that heâd give you everything for free.Â
âHe always gives me the friend discount. And weâre not even smoking right now, Iâm only drinking tonight,â You told Steve, and then noticed that your drink was gone and that it mustâve gotten knocked over and fallen into the grass when he surprised you. You detached yourself from Steve and went to peek over the railing. âYou murdered my drink.âÂ
âIâm sorry. Iâll get you a new one,â He said, and you looked at him again. You pressed a quick kiss to his lips and then watched him head back into the house.Â
Eddie knew that this was his cue to leaveâ heâd actually felt his cue the moment he saw Steve with his arms around you, but even he could recognize that it wouldâve been weird to slip away when you and Steve fell into your initial conversation and not say any sort of goodbye to you.Â
âHey, Iâll see you later,â Eddie said, grabbing your attention. âIâm gonna head out.â
You immediately gave him a sad look. âAre you sure?â
âYeah.â He was very sure, and he was glad that you didnât ask him why.
âOkay, well, at least let me be a good party host and walk you to your car,â You said, and Eddie didnât argue with you on that.
You guided him out through the backyard instead of through the noisy house. He took the lead once you two were on the sidewalk, pointing in the direction of his van, and you two started walking down the street; right at the corner was the only place he had been able to find a spot.Â
âIâll be around tonight if you need to talk,â Eddie said. It was obvious, but he still always felt the need to remind youâ if you needed him, heâd be there. Always.Â
You nodded at that. âThank you.â
Before he opened the door and got into the driver's seat of his van, your voice stopped him.Â
âAnd it works both ways, you know,â You told him. âYou can talk to me too. Knock at my door in the middle of the night and tell me your problems that are probably a lot less silly than mine. You can tell me anything.âÂ
That was the thing, though. He couldnât tell you anything. Because if he did, it would probably break everything you two had. Everything that was easy and simple and nice and comfortable.Â
But he couldnât lie and say that he didnât think about being honest with you, that he didnât think about saying the words to just see what your reaction would be. Just to see how things between you two would change.Â
âI know,â Was what he ultimately responded to you with, though.  Â
You smiled and gave him a quick nod. âGood.â
Seeing that sweet smile on your face struck something inside of him. There was suddenly a part of him that wanted to say âFuck itâ and just finally tell you the truth.
âI should head back before Steve wonders where I went,â You said before Eddie could admit anything to you. âIâll see you soon.âÂ
âYeah,â Eddie nodded because it was the right thing to do; the only thing to do. âSee you soon.âÂ
The first time it happened, you wrote it off as a fluke. A moment of high passion, a little burst of unexpected roughness from the man who was usually all dramatic flourishes and surprisingly gentle hands.
Youâd been pressed against the side of his van after a Hellfire session, his mouth hot on yours, the chill of the October air a stark contrast to the heat building between you. His hands were tangled in your hair, and just as a soft sigh escaped your lips, you felt itâa sharp, sudden, perfect pressure on your bottom lip. Not hard enough to break the skin, but enough to make you gasp and see a tiny burst of stars behind your eyelids. Heâd soothed it instantly with his tongue, murmuring a muffled "Sorry, sweetheart," against your mouth before diving back in.
You didn't think much of it. It was hot, actually.
The second time was less explainable. You were curled up on the lumpy couch in his trailer, watching a cheesy horror movie. You were leaning against his chest, his arms around you, his chin hooked over your shoulder. You made a dumb joke about the killerâs obvious hiding spot, and Eddie let out a low chuckle. Then, he nuzzled his face into the soft space where your neck met your shoulder and bit down.
It wasn't a love bite, a hickey. It was a deliberate, playful clamp of his teeth on your flesh. You yelped, more in surprise than pain, and squirmed. He released you immediately, planting a soft kiss on the same spot.
"Couldn't help it," he mumbled, his voice a low rumble against your skin. "You're just..."
You laughed it off, a faint blush creeping up your neck. It was... weirdly endearing.
But then it kept happening. And you started to notice the pattern.
It was a compulsion. A little jolt of possession that seemed to overtake him at random, unpredictable moments.
Heâd bite the meaty part of your thigh while you were stretched out on his bed reading, making you jump and drop your book. Heâd catch the shell of your ear from behind while you were cooking him on his shitty stove. Heâd grab your hand during a D&D campaign, bring your knuckles to his mouth for what you thought was a kiss, and gently sink his teeth into the side of your finger, his eyes never leaving yours as Mike droned on about a troll's fortitude save.
It was never hard enough to truly hurt. It was a punctuation mark. An Eddie Munson signature.
It started to get under your skin. Not in the way he probably intended. The randomness of it felt less like an affectionate quirk and more like an interruption. A jolt that kept you perpetually on edge, waiting for the next surprise nip.
You were studying at his kitchen table, highlighting a passage in your textbook, your brow furrowed in concentration. His fingers trailed idly up your spine, a pleasant distraction. Then, his hand stilled on the nape of your neck, his thumb brushing your hairline. You relaxed into the touch, until his fingers tightened just slightly and he leaned in, his teeth grazing the tendon there.
You flinched, your highlighter screeching across the page in a jagged yellow line.
"Eddie!" you snapped, frustration boiling over. "God, would you stop?"
He pulled back as if burned, his eyes wide with genuine shock. "Whoa. Hey. Sorry, I justâ"
"You just what?" you interrupted, slamming the book shut. "You can't just⊠bite me whenever you feel like it! I'm trying to focus. It's not cute anymore, it's annoying!"
The words hung in the air, sharp and cruel. You saw the flicker of hurt in his eyes before he shuttered it behind a mask of defensive nonchalance. He leaned back in his chair, the legs scraping against the linoleum.
"Annoying," he repeated flatly. "Right. Sorry, my affections are such an inconvenience to your academic career."
"That's not what I meant and you know it," you shot back, though a pang of guilt was already pricking at you. "It's just⊠constant. I feel like a chew toy."
A dark, humorless smile touched his lips. "A chew toy. Nice." He stood up abruptly, his chair tipping backward. "Don't worry, princess. I'll keep my freakish impulses to myself."
He grabbed his vest from the hook by the door and left, the trailer door slamming shut behind him with a finality that made you wince.
The silence he left behind was heavy and suffocating. The fight felt stupid, petty, but the frustration had been real. You put your head in your hands, trying to quell the angry tremor in your own. Why did it bother you so much? It was just a stupid little bite.
But it wasn't. You knew that. It was his thing. His weird, primal, entirely Eddie way of saying he was there, that he was present with you.
20 minutes passed. The guilt curdled in your stomach. You picked up your textbook but the words blurred together. All you could see was the wounded look in his eyes before he hid it.
You found him outside, sitting on the hood of his van, staring out at the ground. He didn't look up as you approached, just took a long drag from his cigarette, the ember glowing brightly in the twilight.
You leaned against the van next to him, the cold metal seeping through your shirt. "I'm sorry," you said quietly. "I didn't mean it like that."
He exhaled a stream of smoke. "You did."
"Okay, I did," you admitted, hugging yourself. "But it's not because it's⊠freakish. It's because I don't get it. It just feels random. It startles me."
He was quiet for a long time, finishing his cigarette and grinding the butt under his boot. "I am sorry.. justâŠIt's not random," he finally said, his voice low and rough. He wouldn't look at you, his gaze fixed on the horizon. "It's when I can't believe you're real. Or when you say something so smart it makes my head spin. Or when you look at me like I'm not⊠well, like I'm not me. The town freak." He shrugged, a defensive, jerky movement. "It's like a⊠a system overload. A kiss isn't enough. I gotta⊠I dunno. Anchor myself. Make sure you're solid."
Your heart clenched. Youâd reduced his vulnerable, heartfelt language to an annoyance.
You moved to stand in front of him, between his knees where they dangled off the hood. You placed your hands on his thighs. "Show me," you whispered.
He finally looked at you, his brow furrowed in confusion. "What?"
"Show me. Right now. Bite me."
A slow understanding dawned in his dark eyes. He searched your face for any hint of mockery, finding only sincerity. He brought his hands up to cradle your hips, his thumbs hooking into your belt loops. He pulled you closer, his gaze intense.
"Your wrist," he murmured, his voice husky.
You offered it to him without hesitation. He didn't lunge or grab. He was painstakingly slow, deliberate. He turned your arm over, exposing the delicate skin. He pressed a soft, open-mouthed kiss to your pulse point, and you felt it thrum wildly under his lips. Then, with an almost reverent slowness, he closed his teeth over the flesh. It was a steady, firm pressure that made you suck in a sharp breathânot from pain, but from the sheer intensity of the sensation. He held it for a three-count, his eyes locked on yours, before releasing you and soothing the spot with his tongue.
A full-body shudder ran through you. It wasn't an interruption. It was a full-stop. A concentrated dose of Eddie.
"Eddie" you breathed out, the word barely a whisper.
A real smile, small and relieved, touched his lips. "See?"
You nodded, your throat tight. You finally understood the grammar of it. You climbed onto the hood of the van with him, settling into the space between his arms. "Okay," you said, leaning your head back against his shoulder, offering him your neck. "Okay. New rule. No biting during midterms."
You felt the rumble of his laughter against your back. He pressed a kiss to your offered skin, then, right over your jugular, gave you the gentlest, most perfect bite.

Eddieâs sprawled out on the mattress like he owns it, curls wild, tattoos glowing faint in the low light. Heâs got his rings digging into your skin as he drags you down onto him, setting the rhythm with bruising hands. His grin is feral, hungry, the kind of look that makes your thighs tremble even before he opens his mouth.
âYeah, thatâs it, baby. Ride me like youâre made for it,â
he groans, voice ragged but cocky. His eyes drag over your body like heâs memorizing every inch.
âYou look so fucking pretty falling apart on my cock. My good little slut, huh?â
You grip his chest, nails sinking into his pale skin, bouncing harder just to watch that grin sharpen. Every thrust he tilts up into you, controlling from below, his dirty praise and taunts dripping into your ears. Heâs every inch the sexy dominanting metalhead he pretends to beâconfident, loud, filthy.
But then his composure starts to crack. His smirk falters when your hips roll just right, when your walls clamp down around him so tight he chokes on his next taunt. The grip on your hips trembles, turning frantic instead of firm.
âF-fuck, slow downâno, donât, Iââ he stammers, head falling back. His chest rises fast, every muscle tense as the words tumble out against his will.
âOh my god, youâreâshit, youâre gonna make meâplease, donât stopâpleaseââ
You realize with a thrill that the big bad dom is slipping, melting into something smaller. Heâs clutching you now, fingers bruising but not controllingâdesperate. His eyes go glassy, lips parting into messy whimpers, all his dirty talk dissolving into needy pleas.
âYouâre in charge, fuckâplease, Iâm yoursâI canât, I canâtââ
His voice cracks, and he arches into you helplessly.
Heâs gasping beneath you, eyes glazed and lips parted, still clinging to your hips like heâll drown if he lets go. His chest is heaving, curls damp and sticking to his flushed face. You slow your movements to a lazy grind, making him feel every last pulse, every twitch of overstimulation.
âYouâre so easy to break,â you murmur, leaning down until your mouth brushes his ear. Your tone is soft, almost affectionateâbut the words are sharp enough to make him shiver.
âAll that big talk, all those filthy little orders⊠and look at you now.â
âPleaseâŠâ His voice cracks, and it only makes your smirk deepen. âPlease what, baby?â You tilt his chin so he has to look at you, forcing those wide, ruined eyes up into yours. He canât hold your gaze long, not like this. His lashes flutter, tears threatening at the corners, and you feel his cock twitch inside you at being put in his place.
âIâI donât know, justâdonât stop touching me,â he babbles, shame and need tangled in every word.
You drag your hips in a slow, grinding circle, enough to make him gasp and arch off the bed. âOh, Iâm not done with you,â you purr, smooth and cruel all at once.
âYou thought you were in charge, didnât you? But look at you nowâshaking, begging, mine.â
He moans at the word mine, clutching harder, his body twitching under the weight of your control. You smile down at him, stroking his cheek almost tenderly while your hips keep that steady, tormenting rhythm.
âThatâs it, baby. You donât have to think anymore. Just let me use you until I decide youâre finished.â
The broken sound he makes at that nearly undoes youâbut you hold your pace, savoring the sight of your ruined metalhead completely unraveling under your dominance.
The room smelled like dust, candle wax, and weed smoke, the usual Hellfire Club vibes. Eddie was already sprawled in his throne at the head of the table, his devilish grin plastered across his face as he flicked through his campaign notes.
âYou know what youâre gonna do for me before they show up, right, sweetheart?â he asked lazily, cocking his head at you. His tone was sweet, but the look in his eyes was all command.
Your cheeks warmed, but you nodded, lifting the hem of your dress obediently. Eddieâs smirk widened.
âThatâs my girl. Take those panties off, slowâ
The lacy pair slid down your thighs, pooling around your ankles before you kicked them aside. Eddieâs rings clicked against the armrest as he drummed his fingers, watching you with hungry satisfaction.
âCâmereâ he ordered, voice dropping to a growl âSit on your kingâs lap like a good little throne ornamentâ
You moved to straddle him, dress falling back into place as if you were still modest. Eddie pushed his jeans down just enough to free his cock, already hard and aching. He guided you down onto him, his hand gripping your hip tight as he sheathed himself inside you with one long, slow push.
You bit back a gasp, burying your face briefly against his neck.
âAh ahâ he chided, tugging your chin up. âNo noise. Donât give us away before the game even starts. Youâll sit here, stuffed full of me, and you wonât move until I sayâ
You were still trying to adjust when the first voices echoed down the hallway. Eddieâs grin was feral.
âPerfect timingâ he whispered against your ear âSmile pretty. Nobodyâs gonna know youâre my dirty little cockwarmerâ
The door burst open. Dustin, Mike, and the others filed in with dice, snacks, and notebooks. Eddie welcomed them with booming theatrics, his voice steady even as he gave your thigh a possessive squeeze under the table.
You tried to sit still, tried to keep your face neutral as the boys settled in, but every now and then Eddie shifted in his chair, whether to gesture wildly about a dragonâs fiery attack or just to torment you, you didnât know. Every movement made him press deeper inside you, and your nails dug into your dress to keep from whimpering.
âRoll for initiative!â he bellowed, then leaned close enough that only you could hear âThatâs it, baby. Keep that poker faceâ
Your breath hitched, but no one noticed.
When Dustin started arguing about a critical hit, Eddie took the opportunity to roll his hips just once, sharp and sudden. Your thighs clenched, eyes widening, and Eddie chuckled darkly.
âShhhâ he murmured low in your ear, voice dripping smug satisfaction âYouâre doinâ so good. My pretty little secret, taking me so deep while I run the show. Gods, I could keep you plugged like this all nightâ
One hand stayed on the table, conducting his campaign like the ringleader he was; the other crept higher under the cover of your dress, his rings cool against your overheated skin. He never pushed too far, not yet, but the threat of it had you trembling.
And the whole time, the Hellfire Club laughed, rolled dice, argued, completely unaware that their Dungeon Master was stuffing his girl.
Every whisper in your ear was filthier than the last:
âMight cum in you before they leaveâ
âBet youâd love it if they noticed, huh? If they saw what a slut you are for their precious DMâ
âDonât you dare move. You stay stuffed until I decide youâve earned to ride meâ
And you, his good little cockwarmer, could only nod, sit still, and pray no one noticed the way your cheeks burned or your thighs quivered every time he shifted in his throne.
