what's happening in serbia right now: after a massive protest held on vidovdan, the 28th of june, spurred on by the goverment's continuous refusal to take accountability for the novi sad railway station canopy collapse that ended up killing 16 people, ended in police brutality with several people injured and almost 80 arrested (with 29 still held in custody), and after police started kidnapping students off the streets, students and citizens organized road blockades all over serbia, with most of them being in belgrade. blockades started in zemun in the afternoon on sunday, 29th of june, and so far they have been set up in novi sad, kragujevac, valjevo, zaječar, čačak, lazarevac, smederevo, pančevo. here's a map of so far logged in road blockades (do note that these could/change rapidly depending on how feasable it will be to hold them especially once the police start retaliating):

zemun zbor (people's assembly) outlined 3 demands they expect to be met:

1. calling for snap parliamentary elections as soon as possible

2. removal of ćacilend (sns backed "student" encampment)

3. release of all arrested protestors

so far other zbors seem to have accepted these demands as their own as well and are working towards further organizing in order to ensure the continuation of these blockades. i'll try to inform you as the situation developes, sorry for any typos it's midnight and i hate english but it's good to keep people informed i think

well anyway. my discovery of the day is the art of Jeffrey Catherine Jones! she was a trans woman who painted a huge amount of fantasy & scifi cover art for books and magazines, among other things :)
