@Regrann from @craftscouncil - Catotelm, 2017, which features in Outer Spaces - the first solo show by #CCDirectory maker Amanda Simmons @scottishgallery. It’s the culmination of a two-week residency at Lyth Arts Centre in Caithness. Working from watercolour prints inspired by the patterns and colours of the land and sky, Amanda has made some of her largest gravity formed glassworks to date for this exhibition. Originally trained in Biomedical Sciences (Pharmacology) and Clinical Sciences, Amanda became interested in glass in 2002 after a stained glass course with Ray Bradley. Amanda currently works from her studio in Dumfries and Galloway. #glass #making #pattern #crafts - #regrann

Modern Heritage Craft documents a unique & brilliant project created by @upland_cic where young people from South West Scotland are mentored by master craftsmen/woman from the same area. This image is of the late Godfrey Smith, in his workshop in Balmaclellan. Godfrey was one of the last clog makers in Scotland and a truly exceptional man in so many ways. "I make kiln formed glass vessels, playing with gravity in the kiln. Manipulating mass, heat, colour and time. I aim to create complex, elusive work that has intense colour and pattern which reacts to the light it is placed in.
