bleeding hearts & treasures untold. [ closed ]
The ocean was his home. The little merman had been born there, had spent his life there â the sea loved him as her own, and had gifted him with ocean eyes and the ability to communicate with sea creatures.
But that was not enough to keep the little merman safe. One day, a creature who held nothing but darkness inside attacked him â leaving him scared and bleeding and rapidly losing consciousness in the water that loved him.
The ocean wanted to protect her child, and so the currents pushed his body towards a net that was dragging through the water â it was only way she knew to save her loving son, her little Artemis.
He was snagged in the net, but unaware of it. He was already unconscious when his body was dragged from the water.

It took Artemis quite a long time to wake up -- his magic had done its job and he was mostly healed -- he would be just fine. However, he had no idea where he was or what was happening. He was alone inside what looked like someone's office, filled with maps and treasures he'd never seen before. While he was frightened, he knew that he had to at least try to escape. He didn't belong here.
His tail had dried up -- there wasn't enough water in the washtub they'd left him in, and he now sported human legs. He looked around the room for something to defend himself and settled on a dagger he could tie around his thigh, and he snagged a white shirt from its hook and slipped it on. It was much too long, it went way past his thighs, but it would have to do for now.
He snuck out of the office, gripping the dagger in his hands as he rounded the corners, trying to avoid being caught and find his way to a window he could possibly slip through, back to his home in the ocean. Staying aboard with humans was not an option -- they'd kill him first chance, and he didn't want to die.
He ducked into another room when he heard voices that were much too close, and pressed himself into a dark corner to wait for the men to move on so he could make his escape. Heart pounding in his chest, he slipped out of the room and made his way to a large window.
