Here is the finished product! I am very pleased with how they came out.
May 10
That afternoon after I took a nap I worked on the reflections on the eyes and the reflections on the glasses.
May 10
I left the art studio art 1am and wasn’t finished so I took all of my stuff that I needed to finish painting and took them with me to my dorm and painted until about 5am. I blow dried the eyes so that I would be able to add the reflections later in the after so that I might be a bit dry. That early morning I worked on the eyelashes, the glasses, and reflections on the glasses and little details that I thought needed to be looked at.
Also May 9 After I finished the third pair of eyes I worked on the second pair. Adding the eyelids, the corners of the eyes and the whites of the eyes. I also went over certain areas of the skin where I saw more detail that I hadn’t gotten to yet like the shadows on the face from the frames of the glasses and I painted the eyebrows. I blow dried the eyebrows a bit so that they would be a bit dry and I could add a bit of brown and a tannish white color to them to make them closer to the right color. Lastly I watch a short video on how to paint oil paint eyes and re-painted my eyes using the video for reference. I learnt that I didn’t have the color wrong the first time I just had to learn how to relate the colors together somewhat without really completely blending them.
May 9
I wasn’t able to work on my eyes as much as I wanted to for two days because I had a final and had gotten sick.
I worked on the reflection in the eyes and the pinks in the corners of the eyes. Lastly, I worked on the eyelashes.
Finished product of the third pair of eyes.
May 6
I went back to work on my third pair of eyes paining the whites of the eyes, the bottom rim of the eyes, and adding the eyebrows, which was really time consuming and hard to do.
May 5
Before the critique that day I worked on adjusting the size of the hands to make sure they were right, especially the thick which I realized was too thick when I asked one of my peers if there was anything I more I should do to them and was able to correct the problem once she helped me realize where it was. Lastly, I tried to find a light purple close to the original color I used for the background to cover up the areas with guideline markings. This is the finish product. I wasn’t able to finish the boots but I still like it as is.
Then I was able to add color to the eyes of my second and third canvas.
Also May 3
I worked on adding the rest of the basic frame of the glasses.
May 3
I went back to working on the portrait I was doing before. I worked on the shadow that was casted on the background behind the body, which I wasn’t sure I was still going to add but I out caught in fixing the areas around the body where the turpentine had worn away the purple background so I started working on the shadow. Then I worked on adding the skin tone to the hands and re-sizing them so that they were proportionate and then worked on filling in the details of the laptop around the hands. Next I painted the glasses on her face and the shadow from the frame of them. Lastly, I worked on the shirt all over again making at a better color, adding the shadows and folds and different details.
May 2
I worked only on the third pair of eyes painting all the skin tones that I saw in the picture. It was really difficult to find all of the colors for the skin and to make sure I knew what they were so that I could mix them and use them again. I also decided to position the eyes on the wall mid-way through doing the third canvas to see how they looked with a spotlight on them. I was then able to finish the skin for it that night.
May 1
I worked on the finishing the skin tone of the second pair of eyes and added in a bit of the outline of the frame of the glasses and some of the shadow that comes from it.
Then I started the third pair of eyes, by adding the eyes, the outline of above the eyes and under the eyes, and a bit of the nose.
April 28
I finished the skin around the eyes for my first face. I didn’t layer the skin tones I just did all the colors all at once because I knew I wouldn’t have enough time to layer and add colors to each of the three faces and to have time for them to dry some so that I could add the colors with them blending into one another. Although I think that worked pretty well in my favor overall for time management and detail and didn’t take away from the look of the pieces at all.
I then worked a bit more on the next face and the skin tones.
April 27
I took a break from painting the portrait and started working on my last project. These are two of the three pairs of eyes I took pictures of and painted.
I began by painting the outline of the eyes first so that I would have the central focus positioned and gage where every other detail was based off of it. Then I went to work painting the skin tones of the face around the eyes based on what I saw and not what my brain told me I saw. After a bit of working on the first face I began the second one, because I wanted to get as much work done on all three of my canvases as I could as I didn’t have much time left for this last project as I did with the other ones.
Here are some close ups on the face and the legs to show the work done in skin complexion, highlights, shadows, and reflections. Also the detail of the boots and the side of the laptop with its ports.
April 25
I got help getting the basic outline of the hands and I fixed the positioning and angle of the boot folded under the laptop and the leg. I worked on painted the rest of the skin tone and details of the face and added the shadow on the side of the face. I worked on putting the color of the lips, finished the neck, and worked on painting the boots and makin sure they didn’t look flat but instead three-dimensional.
April 24
I worked on the shadow on the leg folded under the laptop, added more of the skin tone, added the shadow under the laptop and around the shirt, and finished the skin tone of the legs.
On April 21
I began working on my proposal for my last project. My focus was on eyes and the expression and emotion that they can show in them, by eyes I mean the eyes themselves, eyebrows, and any lines and wrinkles around them. I looked up artist that I was inspired by and who I liked the style of and found Ryan Morse, whose artwork is the first image and Thomas Saliot’s, which are the last two. I enjoy these two artist because of the depth of the expression that can be seen and the beautiful different betrayals of how they went about painting eyes. I also like the use of color in their artwork and how no matter how much color or detail there is around them the eyes are able to capture the viewers attention.
Between April 20-21 I took pictures of the three people I chose to focus on for this last project.
