[Once in a while.]
Happy birthday, Portal 2!
i recently replayed portal 2 (again) and i'm trouble putting it into words but. the way that this story does grief is something that resonates stronger and strong with me the older i get and the more i lose.
just, the story of old aperture is a story told through scar tissue. it's a tragedy that tells you upfront it's a tragedy, that you can see the downfall before cave gets it on the tapes, but even so it still hurts in the end. the fact that cave johnson's last legacy is a recording of him breaking down over and to no one. the fact that caroline is so essential to glados that she would remain when glados is stripped to her most basic systems, but that unmaking is also the only way glados could remember her.
how grief is this cavernous structure under the surface that still pulses and some of the lights still flicker. that we are built on it even if we can't remember it's there.
you unlocked something that taught me about myself. you are trouble and you are bad for me and i love you and for that you have to go. and when you turn around, that which was your whole life looks so tiny from the outside.
10th anniversary of portal 2 this month:
me:
ppl w adhd and autism reblog and add what texture is so awful it haunts your dreams its okay if its incredibly specific ill go first: scratching my nails on a car
eating cooked sweet potato
rough, unhealthy/ unnatural skin. Especially if it involves holes.
Whatever kind of cotton is used to make those soft leggings. Makes folding laundry a bitch.
The styrofoam in video game boxes that shrieks when you open it
cotton balls and chalk pastel
anything sticky, i have a legit fear of stickers
I think a lot about how Valve set up this huge narrative with crossover lore between their franchises, building up a huge finale to two decades old series
And then they just stopped making games
cave johnson as princess buttercup is honestly the best idea i will ever have
in therapy my therapist and i were talking about my own feelings of self worth in relationships. and she asked me to say qualities about myself that someone else would be attracted to, on a romantic and platonic level. so i named some things like compassionate, empathetic, etc. and she said âyou named things that you can give someone. ways you can serve, rather than ways that you areâ and y'all..my mind was blown thatâs gonna stick with me forever like she then proceed to tell me actual innate qualities about myself that she liked and thought anyone else would like as well and i hadnât even considered those because like she said i was focused on things i could do outwardly to attract and maintain connections rather than who i was as a person..goddamn!!! thats tea!!!
With this in mind, this also makes me think of the ways people describe us. When people say the reasons that they love/like you or describe you as a person, are they only naming ways that you serve them? Are they equating your worth with how much you do for them?
ex. âYouâre such a good listener. Youâre so generous, youâre so compassionate. Youâre always there for me. You always hold me down. Youâre reliableâ
vs.
âYouâre so funny! Youâre very vibrant. Youâre creative, passionate, and intelligent. Youâre optimistic. Youâre so talented at ____â , etc. I think thatâs very telling.
I remember being 10 or 11 and seeing Portal 2 for the first time. For some reason I though that this game was a horror game, that Aperture Science was a place where emotionless machines would torture the test subjects, with blood and gore, and that this is the most dangerous place in the world. No one was your friend, and I thought that this game was just freaking scary. But, 3-4 years later, I played the game⊠And Iâm glad that it wasnât what I was expecting
I love this game to pieces
I would die for Wheatley what a precious fckn moron
Good god why the fuck are you still around.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOU ARE THE BEST ART TEACHER EVER OMFG THANK YOU
If all teachers taught their subjects the way just taught this, I would have been more interested in what they had to say and less in just doing the bare minimum to pass a test.

âAdult, teenager, itâs a fucking childâ
After about six months of making (and keeping it a secret), my Mel cosplay is finally here! The portal gun and boots were made from scratch using EVA foam and a few other materials like the wires and lights, and the suit was a boiler suit altered by my mum and I :).
Portal Stories: Mel is honestly such an important and meaningful game to me, and Iâve never seen a cosplay of Mel before so I decided to do it myself. Iâm really excited to finally be showing this to you guys, because Iâve been keeping it a secret for so long! The community Iâve met (and become a part of) since I finished playing the game is so lovely, so Iâm sooo happy to share this with you all.
Honestly, I could talk for a lot longer about what the game means to me, but I might make that a separate post instead! In the meantime, I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did while making it :).
