Warriors is a military-horror novel series by Erin Hunter that chronicles the past and present stories of a militaristic division of sentient cats called The Clans as they indulge the minds of themselves and future generation's in the various beliefs of war, jingoism, religious law, xenophobia, an "Us vs Them" mentality, and intimidation of "the others". With topics of fascism and colonialism addressed, Warriors details the horrors of how such beliefs warp the mind into believing ideas of things such as "Good War" directly from the indoctrinated, twisted perspectives of The Clans.

i always find it so amusing how the erin hunter team was able to do p much everything right with scourge - they made an iconic villain thats genuinely the most well liked and entertaining antagonist in all of the series - and they’ve never been able to replicate him in the dozens of books and arcs that have come after the first arc. scourge was only in the last half of the last book of the first arc and died at the end of said book, only had a graphic novel for backstory abt him, and he’s still leagues more interesting than the other villains. none of the others come close imo

Leafstar is my favourite character but she's also badly written and she's basically my OC at this point.

I like the idea of her starting out as an unsure leader who kind of gets walked all over by her deputy, but eventually learns to stand up for herself! Like that's such a great character arc! But instead we get SkyClan's Destiny telling us that Sharpclaw was Right Actually and Leafstar should listen to his xenophobic nonsense.

I also wish she kept being a non-traditional leader. We see in AVoS that she patrols like the rest of the Warriors, something that Twigbranch (or Violetshine? I'm not sure. I remember the passage but not the pov character lol) notes as unusual. I wish she kept having the Daylight Warriors as well, and I want SkyClan to keep its own traditions and weirdness. They should be unique in the face of the other Clans.

I also like the idea of her being open and trusting, letting cats into her Clan even when it goes badly (Stick and his group, Sol). She doesn't let the bad apples turn her against outsiders completely. The whole Clan used to be outsiders! She's kind and fair, but after Sharpclaw she's learned to stand her ground as well.

But after Darktail drives her Clan out, leaving many dead and starving and wandering with no idea of where to go, she becomes more jaded. Her mate and daughters are dead, so is her friend Echosong, and in canon, her deputy Sharpclaw. And when she gets to the Lake Clans, they treat SkyClan badly and ShadowClan even tries to drive them out. It makes perfect sense for her to no longer be nice and trusting! She was finally broken. And that's really sad, but it's really compelling character wise
