A metaphor about gender presentation
The other day I was talking to my therapist about how I worry about switching between pronouns and identities and how sometimes I feel quote unquote fake or wishy-washy for doing so. She responded by telling me that pronouns, identities, and genders can be a bit like the clothes we wear. They can say a lot about us and/or serve a specific function, but you can change them up if you need to. For instance, you might feel comfortable wearing sweaters during the winter but not in the summer. Or there might be a time when you feel that wearing a suit might be the best option considering the circumstances. Or possibly (as this was a specific example from my past) you might have loved wearing skirts but now you don’t feel comfortable in them, but you might again someday. And it’s ok if you switch up your clothing style everyday, and it’s also ok if you like wearing the same thing all the time (as we all know that person who always wears basketball shorts no matter what). Clothing styles can come and go. Sometimes you have that piece of clothing that you absolutely love but then one day you realize it just doesn’t work for you any longer, so you go and find something else that works. Gender identities and pronouns can work a lot like clothes, they can help express who we are and make us feel comfortable, but it’s okay to change them as we and the environment around us changes.
Nonbinary people with large bellies, thick thighs, lots of chest fat, back rolls, soft arms, big butts, double chins, and round faces, etc. are always nonbinary.
Fatness does not, and cannot, in any way undermine your nonbinary-ness.

If you found out that someone you trusted doesn’t believe your identity is real, listen to me, their opinion does not matter. What matters is how the words you use to describe yourself make you feel.

I wanna be a big bearded country man who can hold 200 pound dogs like babies and cuddle them all day and give people bear hugs and chop down trees and shit
I also wanna be lithe and androgynous and wear cute flowy dresses and skip everywhere and read books while drinking tea in a window cubby
Fluidity
It's okay if you change your mind! Everything can be fluid, one day you want to be called this name and the next day it might not sound right, and that's okay! Same with pronouns, how you identify, your hairstyle/color, anything!

You can use any pronouns and still be ambonec! You are valid!
Listen!
It’s sooooo okay for you to bounce from label to label as you try to find yourself. Sometimes more than one sounds right, sometimes you’re not sure if your feelings are appropriate for a certain label, sometimes the number of labels just gets overwhelming, sometimes you discover new things about yourself as you go and the label you have doesn’t fit you as well anymore. AND THAT’S OKAY . You’re not obligated to find and stick to one label on the first go. You keep running through them until you find one that works! If you have to mix and match and smush some together to encompass your plethora of feelings, that’s okay too! Don’t get discouraged, and don’t pay attention to people who may not take you seriously. It’s your identity, your journey, your choices. You do what you have to do to feel at peace with your identity and yourself. Not everyone gets it right on the first try, and not everyone stays the same. And it’s okay.
