This whole thing about people being so defensive about "lesbians can have sex with men" is just...so pointless

Like yeah, nothing is stopping someone from fucking men and calling themselves a lesbian. But it's still fucking stupid and most people (including allies with a basic grasp of lgbt+ politics) will say that.

Not to mention like yeah, it certain situations it can happen (surrogacy if they dont have money for IVF, sex work, having sex with men before they find out they're lesbians) but those are exceptions. If you identify as a lesbian and actively go out of your way to have sex with men AND ENJOY IT (this one's the key), you're not a lesbian. Plain and simple. This isn't gatekeeping, and just because its exclusionary doesn't mean it's a bad thing. There are plenty of other labels for you to use that can include you. Just leave lesbians alone. Your actions don't exist in a vacuum

The APA also writes in a broad definition of sexual orientation that “sexual orientation is distinct from other components of sex and gender, including biological sex (the anatomical, physiological and genetic characteristics associated with being male or female), gender identity (the psychological sense of being male or female)* and social gender role (the cultural norms that define feminine and masculine behavior).”

Seconded. It’s biSEXuality, not biGENDER-IDENTITYality. The human sexes being male and female. What people choose to call themselves or not does not magically change what’s between their legs. Remember how we were making great progress with educating that people are born with their immutable sexuality (attraction to certain *genitals,* not minds) and we can’t help it or change it? Well, so much for that, I guess.

Still so funny to me how LGBTQIA has become one of the most common versions of the acronym but if you asked anyone about like... what the specific advocacy needs of asexuals and aromantics are, what rights are being infringed upon, how have they contributed to "queer history" and the lgbt rights movement, etc you'd get basically no answers or something about visibility.

Like, the performance of using the correct acronym or not gatekeeping has reigned supreme, but there's been very little to actually address what real similarities and differences there are between lgbt issues and ace/aro issues. Sure you can say lack of visibility has lead to poor research, but shouldn't yall have been fighting for that and not the right to call yourself queer?
