Yo! You’ve seen it? I wonder if we were there around the same time or if the stormtrooper is just someone who’s often there.
But yes it’s a wonderful view and it’s so fun to climb on the rocks
The last time I remember seeing the stormtrooper was August 2022, but I think my family has seen them since then. We just go for the drive, sometimes getting out to take pictures.
I love the views in the hills; from needles highway, Custer state park, spearfish canyon, ect. It just makes me feel soo much better
Oh yeah than not the same time I saw the Stormtrooper last summer. June I think.
Yeah the trails in that area are just wonderful. Custer state park was great I’ve been there multiple times. I went to some other great public trails in South Dakota last summer. I also met a St Bernard Puppy at a park but that’s another thing.
I love climbing and I love nature so it was lovely
Its been awhile since I've done any hiking, but yea the hills really are the place to go (and to see people with their dogs!) I know this post is mostly about the scenic stuff, but I have to ask; did you visit Reptile Gardens and/or Bear Country USA while you were in the area?
Not on my most recent trip but I saw Bear Country the first time I went which was like 5-6 years ago. It was okay but I wasn’t amazed.
There’s bears at the zoos closer to where I live and I’ve seen a bear in my yard before (same with deer, Fox, coyote etc) so it wasn’t anything new. It was an enjoyable enough way to pass time but I don’t think I’d go again.
Multiple people in my family hate reptiles so I’ve never been to reptile gardens.
Its not unusual to see coyotes and deer in our yard too, but its a nice way to pass the time (especially if you get out and see the small animals at the end of the drive-through section) but tbh we try to go before its too hot and tourist season really picks up. My favorite animals to look for there are the wolves, and one time when we went we could see the pups up close(pics from two different trips):
I can see why you wouldn't go to reptile gardens if people in your family hate them, but if you don't hate reptiles then I highly recommend going if you ever get another chance! There's also a bald eagle, currently there's an owl, and alongside reptiles there's a few parrots, frogs, insects/arachnids, and even a few axolotls
Yeah I agree
Oooh Axolotols that's fun.
That's also super cool that you got to see pups! There weren't any when I went and that would have made it a lot more enjoyable. It wasn't super full of tourists yet when I went to bear country because we went in May. One of my cousins was getting married in Montana and we stopped in that area of South Dakota either on the way there or on the way back.

I think I’m going to give up on everything. I’m tired all the time and I don’t want to do anything anymore.
Not everybody was destined for a happy ending
Some are destined to be miserable
Doomed
All for the ineffable story
Ramses heart was hardened
He wasn’t given any choice but to be cruel
All so that Moses could be seen a better
If it happens to Ramses
Why not me?
Am I nothing but a stepping stone
An obstacle
To create a greater story for someone else
I cleaned the dishes
Your cup was there again
She uses it every day
She holds desperately on to parts of you
I do too
Almost like if we cling hard enough to the parts
Maybe
We could collect the whole
I miss you
Washed Away
Little girls prayed for ponies
I prayed for restart
I prayed to be ripped to pieces
For the fire to burn
Ashes to ashes
From the ashes arise something new
Redo
I was too ruined, corrupt, broken
Like the earth I must be drowned out
If he could wash away an entire planet
Why not one whole person
If entire creation needed decimation
Why not me?
Like Noah and his ship survived my body would remain a vestige
But all that made me me must go
Like the sinners of the earth
Washed away
