this wasn’t an unusual sight by any means: avalon balinor, surrounded by and covered in paints outside of her cabin (it had gotten to the point where she tended to be so messy that her siblings preferred her to do it outside if she wasn’t going to be in the arts & crafts area of camp), singing beach boys songs just a little bit too loud. 

“wouldn’t it be nice if we could wake up in the morning when the day is new –” she jumped at the sudden appearance in front of her, but allowed a wide grin to spread over her face, the yellow paint on her cheek cracking with the movement. “oh! hey there – how’re you? don’t mind the mess, you’re welcome to join me, i have extra canvases, and obviously lots of paints. don’t tell chiron though, because i took a lot of them from arts & crafts.” @ambrosiaextra

Lucy pulled you her axe and demonstrated the proper way to wield one.  “See, you’ve got to control it more, okay?” The child nodded as she spoke, which she returned with a pleasant smile. 

“Ok, why don’t you go over to that dummy and practice with it, alright?”

As the child ran off, Lucy sighed turning to one of the older campers by her “That kid is gonna be a great warrior, just you wait.”

              back  home  in  new  mexico,  andrés  prided  himself  in  being  fairly  active.   he  had  a  gym  membership,  played  basketball  with  his  little  cousins,  and  even  went  jogging  sometimes  when  the  mood  struck.   all  in  all,  if  you  were  to  ask  him,  he’d  say  he  was  physically  fit.   three  months  at  camp  half-blood,  however,  has  really  made  him  question  what  constitutes  as  physically  fit  by  demigod  standards.   if  he’s  not  getting  knocked  on  his  ass  during  combat  training,  he’s  getting  knocked  off  the  climbing  wall  by  boulders.   either  way,  it’s  knock  knock  central  —  party  of  one.    he’s  sitting  on  the  ground  icing  his  shoulder  and  his  wounded  pride  when  a  shadow  casts  over  him.   great.   the  only  thing  he  loves  more  than  making  an  ass  out  of  himself  is  making  an  ass  out  of  himself  in  front  of  other  people.   “  by  all  means,  you  go  ahead. ”   suddenly,  he’s  good  where  he  is.    the  climbing  wall  can  wait.

      this  is  not  the  first  time  he’s  been  told  don’t  cannonball  into  the  lake.  in fact,  it’s  not  even  the  second.  (  he’s  ten  warnings  deep  into  a  record  ;  if  this  was  the  real  world  as  he’s  so  affectionately  come  to  calling  it,  he’d  probably  have  been  arrested  by  now.  )  those  warnings,  however,  are  the  very  reason  he’s  so  enthralled  with  the  idea.  something  has  to  DEFINE  a  bad  idea,  a  cause  and  effect,  a  delicate  consequence  in  order  for  it  to  be  considered  as  such.  he  wants  to  find  out  what  that  is.  (  he  also  craves  the  rush  of  COLD  WATER  on  his  skin  and  this  seems  like  killing  two  birds  with  one  stone.  )        when  he’s  dived,  head  first,  off  the  cliff  and  hit  the  water,  there  are  a  few  pleasant  moments  under  the  surface  before  he  pushes  himself  up.  (  not  to  say  he  doesn’t  love  being  hermes’  kid,  and  all  the  perks  that  comes  with,  but  he  has  to  say  sometimes  he  envies  posiedons’  litter  for  this  reason  alone.  )  he  G A S P S   in  breath,  shakes  his  head  (  not  too  dissimilar  to  a  dog  out  of  the  rain  )  and  sees  the  water  droplets  fall  in  his  peripheral  vision.   “  TOLD  YOU!  ”  yelled  over  to  the  cliffs,  probably  halfway  to  the  amphitheatre  with  volume  of  his  voice,  as  he  gestures  to  either  side  of  him.  “  nothing  bad  happened!  ”                 @ambrosiaextra​

Mabbie skipped out of the arts and crafts area, holding a bunch of string friendship bracelets in her hands. She smiled as she went back towards the cabins, looking for people to give them too.

She worked very hard on these bracelets and was very proud of herself. They were each different patterns and they were so much fun to make.

She stopped as she saw someone passing by, and stopped, excitedly running up to them.

“Hello there! Would you like a bracelet? I worked really hard on them, and I have a lot of different patterns.”

                  “   hey             ”     his  voice  cuts  through  the  early  morning  silence  like  a  hot  knife  through  butter .  birds  in  a  nearby  tree  take  flight ,  opting  for  the  safety  of  taking  cover            not  an  option  to  his  fellow  demigods .  jesse’s  presence  takes  up  room ,  fills  the  camp’s  protective  barriers           suffocates .  his  big  head is  90%  of  his  volume .   “   wanna  play  a  round  of  hearts ?   ”   he  taps  his  deck  of  cards  on  his  knee  before  standing  up ,  arm  wrapped  around  a  column  that  blinks  with  casino  lights ,  half  -  hanging  off  of  his  cabin’s  front  porch .   “   unless            and  my  apologies             ”   he  pauses ,  worn  deck  pressed  over  his  heart .   “   unless  you’re  too  fucking  chicken  shit .   ”   it’s  a  cheap  attempt  at  goading  his  opponent ,  he’s  well  aware            and  yet  he  doesn’t  care .  he’s  looking  for  entertainment ,  a  rush  greater  than  sitting  in  the  doorway  of  his  cabin  shuffling  cards .  his  course  of  action  is  well  oiled  and  thought  out           should  they  decline ,  he’d  poke  at  them  incessantly .  should  they  accept            they  were  stupid .

     “ 𝓬𝓪𝓻𝓮𝓯𝓾𝓵 ! ”   𝓪 𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓲𝓼 𝓱𝓮𝓵𝓭 𝓾𝓹 𝓯𝓻𝓸𝓶 where she’s kneeling for the other to halt their approach,  and andromeda does a quick once over of the soil.   (  you’d think people would see fresh mulch and walk around it,  but she finds that’s rarely the case anymore.  )  she’s been tending to the garden outside the big house while everyone is elsewhere — it’s easier to avoid people stomping all over the seedlings before she’s even had the chance to nudge the plants along.  there’s a sigh of relief when she realizes all of the sprouts are unharmed ;  they were always difficult to see at this stage,  with only a leaf or two peeking out of the ground.   “ sorry,  hope i didn’t startle ya or anything,  i just … forgot where i planted these guys for a sec. ”
