delia had made it a bit of a point to talk to demigods from each cabin, she had been saving the hades cabin for last due to her intimidation at the thought of the god of the underworld. but that had gone much better than she imagined, and now it only left a few cabins she hadn’t met anyone from. this included the cabin next door, and as she exited cabin 18 to start for the mess hall for lunch, she saw someone she’d heard plenty about but had never spoken with herself: jesse van houten. given what she’d heard, there was a tick of hesitation. according to most, jesse wasn’t really someone worth talking to. but, delia had never really been the type to take other’s opinions on things. she liked to form those on her own. so she fell into step next to the son of tyche. if he were a jackass, then she’d just avoid him from there.
❝ so, how exactly does manipulating luck work? seems like a really cool ability to have. ❞ there wasn’t much more interesting to delia than the abilities of the demigods of different godly parents. healing herself was nice, but it seemed incredibly passive in the face of manipulating luck or raising actual skeletons.
❪ 💵 ❫ he’s alone —- and then he’s not . the presence of another demigod was reminiscent of a mosquito buzzing around his head , their voice droning in his ear uninvited . it seemed that no matter how much he swatted at them with behaviour that was generally considered assholic —- they always returned . the daughter of hebe is new to camp , though —- jesse knows that much . she hasn’t had enough time to hear all the gossip camp could possibly offer on the subject of him , let alone form her own opinion . she’d be easily swayed in his direction , and he relished that realization .
a grin slips onto his features with ease , and he aims it in her direction as he walks . ❛ i don't know , does eternal youth actually work ? or whatever you hebe kids have going for you . ❜ he shrugs , turning his gaze back to the path ahead . ❛ it is pretty fucking cool to never lose . ❜ he admits , and it’s more of a brag than a response to her question .
