I've cared for many children over the years - but I was unable to care for my own," she admits with her back to the 'superheroes' as she switches on the coffeemaker and starts the water for tea. "I left my husband and my child - I - wasn't capable at the time of taking care of him, either of them. It wasn't safe."
Natasha lets out a soft sound. "That took a lot of guts."
"Perhaps," she hums, but it's nice of the spy to try to make it sound better. "Jack passed away and he requested our son be placed here."
"That's - tragic, ma'am, but why are we here?" Steve asks.
She has to get to the point. "My son was taken."
"Taken?" Natasha interrupts.
"Matthew is blind," Maggie says. "Social services suggested a mentor to help with his navigational skills - the man taught him how to fight and took him. He took him."

Summary: Hawkeye was deaf. That was a fact that was very known and his teammates always tried to make working with them as comfortable as possible for him. When they were in the middle of battle they would sign Clint short paragraphs so that he doesn’t need to read their lips.
So there was the thing with the famous devil of Hell’s Kitchen. He didn’t even sign short words. Ever.
Clint never asked him specifically to do so, but DD had to see the others sign to Hawkeye at least hundreds of times in these last weeks. So yeah, Clint was a little annoyed maybe even pissed off. And he normally wasn’t easy to piss of. Thank you very much. (Ignoring what Natasha or Ironman might say)

Communication when their comms are down - great plan! And including the local vigilante, who’s been working closely with them on this, is a real no-brainer.
Until it turns out said vigilante is an asshole that thinks sign language is beneath him, judging by the way he’s stubbornly refusing to learn it.
(Conversely - Matt’s trying, he really is but damn it, those two signs are exactly the same… what do you mean they mean completely different things?!)
