background.
Amelia was left at the hospital when she was three days old. Apparently, two teenagers were seen dropping her off and that’s all anyone could ever really say. She was put into foster care right away but was never adopted. Throughout her childhood, she spent many days daydreaming of what it would be like to have a real family. She would watch others get adopted around her and couldn’t understand why it was never her. As the years went by she decided she didn’t care, that she would be fine on her own. Of course, that wasn’t really how she felt but she had to tell herself that to cope. The older she got she knew she wouldn’t get picked as no one really went for the older kids. She even tried her best to be as polite as possible, almost to the point of being rigid when she got put in a new home.
When she was fourteen she finally got put in a home that wasn’t too bad. The kids stayed to themselves and the parents gave her the basics. No one really showed her much attention but she had a warm place to sleep at night so she was happy. It was the nicest place she had ever been in and she made sure she didn’t do anything to mess it up. Despite how unloving they were she decided to stay there until she graduated high school. She kept her head in the books and joined any extracurricular that didn’t cost much money. Since the family wouldn’t buy her anything outside of basic needs she worked an after-school job at a photography studio. That’s where she fell under the owner's wing and fell in love with taking photos. She loved how an image could tell such a vivid story or at least could be open to interpretation. It was something easy for her to get lost whenever she felt like the world was too much.
After graduation she decided not to go to college, she didn’t feel like it was the right place for her at the time. Besides she never really did too well in school, it’s not for lack of intelligence but because she often daydreamed and found it boring. So she figured she would take a photography class and just enjoy not having to rely on anyone else. She got herself a couple of roommates, worked a couple of jobs, and did her best to survive. By the time she hit twenty-five she did photography a bit on the side but started working as a personal assistant. Her friend/roommate introduced her to the work and eventually, she started working for a lot of rich clientele. Which allowed her to end up in the wealthy social scene and see what it was like to live like them. It was nice being on the outside looking in like she had a window to their lives that no one else did.
One of the many places she frequented was The Palace Hotel, whether through her friends or through work. As she got swept into making friends with those that didn’t mind spending time with the less well-off. Which is how she ended up meeting her fiancé, all because she was getting treated to a nice night at the hotel he owned. She was intrigued by him and a little shocked when he approached but she remembered being so glad she made the choice to be there. From that moment on the rest was history, she suddenly found herself swept off her feet as she daydreamed about so many times. Of course, she was wary at first as she never had someone care for her the way he did. Amelia often had to remind herself that it was even real and that someone like him would even look her way. Before she knew it was four years and an engagement later, as well as being the owner of Gatsby Underground. To say she still wakes up some days in disbelief would be an understatement, especially considering the fact she’s part of the mafia. This was yet another shock to her system when she found it, many others might have run in the opposite direction but her love for Alek wouldn’t let her. She adjusted pretty quickly to the mafia life and though it’s not something she was born into she feels it’s where she’s meant to be.
Amelia has always been passionate, if she cares enough about something she will put her all into it. Even if it becomes a bit obsessive and all she will thank about until she resolves it or moves on. Another thing is she knows how to scheme quite well and isn’t afraid to be ruthless about it. That side of her came out more once she met her soon-to-be husband. Looking at her most wouldn’t think of her being able to be that way but she uses that to her advantage. Don’t cross her or the ones she loves and no one will have a problem. She has this sophisticated aura about her and always carries herself in a graceful manner.
headcanons.
Will choose tea over coffee %95 of the time and always makes sure her kitchen is stocked with it.
Hardly goes anywhere without her camera nearby and tries her hardest not to miss a good photo opportunity.
Still does photography as a hobby and constantly works on improving her skills, loves posting her photos online and is always trying to talk someone into letting her take their photo.
Is not afraid to protective those she cares about and will do anything she has to, to protect them.
Does get jealous and doesn’t exactly hide it either.
