First things first; I love everyone who goes to shows, no matter what you do, if you are just a show junkie, a fellow photographer, a band member, or just someone trying to find something to do that night. You are great! And I would love for you to go to as many shows as possible. But there comes a point where everyone has to speak their mind. I normally wouldn’t bicker about things that happen at shows, but one thing has gone too far.
I have been taking photos at shows since 2010, and I love it! At first I barely knew how to use my camera, especially in a dark setting, I did used flash in my early days, but looking back on it I would like to apologize to all the musicians and photographers that were in the room those many nights.
On average I take live photos 2 or 3 times a week, sometimes more, and recently there has been a giant growth of photographers in the scene, which is great to me because those are just more people to bond with… But one thing that is getting to me is the on-camera/detachable flashes. To me and many other people in the room these lights flickering and flashing abruptly are very distracting and irritating. Not to mention they are not needed!
And to the photographers who are using flash at shows, you are great, and take lovely photos, but keep in mind when your flash goes off it ruins someone else’s photo..

This happens to me more and more these days and it really sucks because a beautiful photo is now ruined. I really love and enjoy what I do, but this is just beyond infuriating, and I know many photographers that will agree with me on this.
