AN: So… instead of actually sleeping, I used my sleeping hours to write this. This is written before I watched the promo for 18x09 (which is fucking February?! You’re telling me I have to wait 2 fucking months to see my babies again?!) so that is not taken into consideration

Amelia opened her eyes, meeting the blue eyes she had let herself crush over the last few weeks and found herself smiling wide. “Wow”, she whispered and Kai smiled.
“Not bad Shepherd”, they said making the smaller Doctor smile.
“Not too bad yourself”
Kai smiled covered her cheek, caressing it softly. She leaned down and connected their lips again, but only for a second when a loud honking was heard and they broke the kiss to see a car coming driving right towards them.
Kai immediately pulled Amelia towards them to protect her, when the car stopped and Amelia recognized the person in the passenger seat. “Teddy?”
Amelia was back in Minnesota for a couple of days. She and Kai haven't talked much alone since the kiss. It messed with her mind a little.
Did they like her? Or was it just a kiss?
She couldn't tell. And she'd be lying if she said it didn't keep her up at night trying to figure their feelings out.
She had a crush on them. Crush… maybe more. She couldn't tell. She took the elevator up to the lab. She knew they'd be there already. They were always the first to be there.
"Amelia, you're early." She feels her heart beat faster at the sound of their voice. "Kai," Amelia's voice is stern and that catches their attention.
"Yes?"
"Can we talk, about Seattle?" Amelia asked. "What's there to talk about?" Kai asked. Amelia walks closer to them.
"About us. I'm confused." Kai pushes her hair behind her ear in a way that makes Amelia feel weak, “What about us?”
They’re playing dumb, she knows, they want to hear her say it. In a way to be reminded that it did happen. It wasn’t just a dream or some imagination.
“The kiss, Kai. What about the kiss?”
“Was it bad?” They ask and she sighs, “It was perfect. That’s the problem.” Amelia said. “Problem?” Kai’s eyebrows furrowed.
“Was it just a kiss to you, or was it more than a kiss?” Kai smiles, looking down into her eyes as she awaited her answer.
“I like you, Amelia. It was more than just a kiss to me.”
That answer makes her smile, feeling her heart swell. Their hand brushing past her jawline as their eyes looked back and forth between her eyes and her lips.
The eye contact drives her insane, feeling as if her body is lighting on fire. She knows she’s never felt this way about anyone before. That only excites her more. The possibilities with them were endless.
“How do you feel about it?” Kai is the one to ask now, Amelia smiles. “Feel about what?” Kai chuckled. Now, she was the one playing dumb.
Their hands moved down to her waist, picking her up and sitting her up on the table. Lifting her up was surprisingly easy to them.
“About this,” Kai doesn’t give her any time for coherent thoughts. They’re kissing her again and wow. It feels good.
“That?” Amelia takes a moment to think. “Yes, that.” Kai grew more and more impatient for her answer and she caught on to that.
“I’m not sure.” Amelia bites her lip, knowing they’d see it, “You might have to do it again.” Kai smiles, looking down at her lips again before kissing her.
Amelia’s hands go to the back of their head, pulling them in closer. Feeling thankful that she wasn’t standing, knowing her body would give out on her right about now.
They both pull away from each other in order to catch their breath, “Come on, Shepherd, let me hear it.”
Amelia blushes at the use of her last name. If it was somebody else calling her Shepherd it would only annoy her, but the way their voice sounded each time made her feel on fire.
“I like it.. I like this. With you. It’s more than a kiss to me. Way more.”
Listen, I love that Amelia wanted to talk to Maggie about her new crush, not only because it confirmed for us that Amelia actually liked Kai, but because of the levity of it, of having a crush.
All of Amelia’s relationships have been so heavy right from the start and have honestly gone from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye before eventually crashing and burning. She’s never had the opportunity to have just a simple crush because the circumstances surrounding her relationships have really forced her to go from not having that relationship to that relationship being everything.
Kai though, with Kai, it’s different. There’s no pressure there, no agenda… for the first time in a long time, Amelia isn’t trying to hide from anything or to lose herself in a relationship in an attempt to ignore the pain caused by something else. Amelia simply has a crush, and she wants to talk about it, wants to revel in it. I actually LOVE the metaphor that can be developed from the fact that Amelia and Kai’s thing has become walks, because that’s really what their relationship is, a nice, steady, easy walk, no destination in mind, and it works. It was very fitting that the last line of Amelia’s meditation was about a calm that never existed before, because that’s Kai for Amelia… I definitely think she made that realization in that moment, that Kai makes her feel calm, makes her feel safe, and makes her feel like she doesn’t have to be anything she doesn’t want to be.
Just ugh. I am so freaking excited to see where this relationship goes.
