Unit 7
I personally find music to be something of a very big part of my life, but not only have I found significance in my memories and life journeys, but I have interpreted it through nature as well. Music can be anything in nature, it can be the sound of the rain, or most recently I was able to interpret it as the sound of hail knocking on my our house roof a few days ago. The sound of the birds chirping in the early mornings, or the birds speaking to each other on my front porch, is a deep connection that can bring an individual to the realization that music in nature is pretty much the existence of nature in play. Some of these nature sounds have been a huge part of people's lives, because they can bring distinct memories to oneself. Birds chirping and owls' "woo" in the early summer mornings are sounds that I personally connect with my childhood. The sound of birds chirping on our cherry and pear trees and the distant sound of an owl approaching can bring back memories of myself in my childhood bedroom, waking up next to my older sister in our shared room. All of this natural music brings me back to my childhood, and brings back a lot of memories. I have included the link that most closely sounds like my childhood nature memory, and I was able to find it from a TikTok. For other people, like celebrities, the sounds of nature are used as a music tool, and are incorporated in music and famous songs as well. Like the sound of rain and thunder, or the sound of ocean waves has been a tool for a lot of music recorders, and it is treated like music.
A song that takes me back to a natural landscape is “Levitating” by Dua Lipa. This song immediately brings back the memories I have from the summer of 2020. Every summer we go on a lot of road trips, but my favorite one was to a beach in Godrich, Ontario. I can just remember me and siblings standing on the beach shore, listening to this song. Hearing this song now, immediately takes me back to this beach and all the good memories I had with my mom, dad and siblings. The ride was long, but it was all worth it for the beautiful view we had.
I'm happy to have all of these memories to offer and to have had the opportunity to actually experience them. Even though they are the tiny, insignificant elements that one might not give much thought to in daily life, when recalled, they can actually be a lovely recollection.
Hi Fatima,
It's interesting to hear how you have found significance in both your memories and your interpretations of nature through sound.
I agree that music can be found in the sounds of nature, and that these natural sounds can evoke strong memories and emotions for individuals. It's amazing how certain sounds can transport us back in time and bring us back to a specific moment in our lives.
I also appreciate how you mentioned the use of nature sounds as a tool in music production. Many famous songs incorporate the sounds of nature, such as rain and thunder, to add texture and depth to the music. It's fascinating to think about how these sounds can be manipulated and incorporated into a musical composition. Your personal example of how a particular song, "Levitating" by Dua Lipa, can immediately transport you back to a specific moment in time is a testament to the power of music and its ability to create lasting memories.
I think your post offers a unique perspective on the intersection of music and nature, and how these two elements can come together to create meaningful experiences and memories. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and memories with us.
