mikoto could tell that his mind was other places, which was concerning. she could never tell what he was thinking about. she wasn’t a mind reader with anyone, but at least she could perceive the fact they had good intentions well enough (hope- fully). she still felt a bit nervous, despite the con- versation ending being practically handed to her. but if he really was suspicious…she didn’t like the idea of letting him wander freely any longer.

“i was just curious about how you’re doing, if you’re busy…it’s a rather mundane question, is all.”

It was obvious that wasn’t what her question was-- he may not fully remember how everyone acted, but he was sure there wasn’t anyone on the ship that would approach him just to make small talk. Ron was genuinely surprised, however, if only because he hadn’t expected such a clear excuse to avoid her original purpose of talking to him. “How rare. I can’t say I’m asked that very much. But I’m doing alright, I guess... and, well,” he laughed slightly. “I think most everyone knows I’m not busy.”

“muroboshi-san,” mikoto broke the silence by prompting him – she’d grown to suspect him simply due to the fact that no one knew anything about him. it wasn’t too far- fetched an idea, but she still felt as if she had to talk to him in order to clear suspicion (or not).

it was then she realized that they were alone. sure, she didn’t doubt her abilities (even if they weren’t offensive), but it just wasn’t smart to question him so far from every- one else.

“…never mind.”

An opportunity such as this didn’t usually come along very often; though just barely, he recognized the girl’s voice that had attempted to start speaking to him. However, despite what he knew he should do, he merely looked over with an obvious feigned interest in what she had to say.

“Ah, did you forget what you wanted to say?"
