Back when I had time to do my nails.
I should be studying. I’m not studying. But I’m also not doing anything else because I should be studying. So I’m just kinda scrolling down my dash with a gradually intensifying sense of doom.

Witchcraft Basics: Grounding & Centering
It’s a term we hear almost constantly in witchcraft. “Just be sure to ground and center!”
And just how do we do that?
Well, mi maripositas, I am glad you asked, because I am about to share with you a couple of methods.
Grounding
Gounding is, perhaps, the most important tool of magick that there is. Because of the vast amount of energy that we are exposed to on a daily basis, often times our own energy gets overwhelmed by the vast amount of static going on in our space. This can lead to anxiety, stress, and an emotional breakdown.
But have you ever noticed just how good you feel after a good cry session?
Well then congrats, you have grounded before.
The problem is replicating that same response without the tears and sniffles. And, unfortunately, the witchcraft community (via books, posts on here, etc) has done a not so great job at teaching newbies how to ground.
Method 1
If you’re not careful, and are not sure how to ground, then you might find yourself feeling like you’re floating away. So, method one for grounding is really quite simple.
Just visualize all of that energy (you can visualize it as white light, a dark misty cloud, or whatever else you think might help) surrounding you, and shoot it all down to the ground through the soles of your feet. Generally, it also helps to be barefoot on grass when you try this method, especially the first couple of times.
Another visualization you can try is to imagine roots growing out of your feet and into the ground. Your can then visualize that same energy going through you, to your feet, and down through the roots and into the ground.
Method 2
Also very simple: use a quarts crystal charged with taking on some of the load from you and into itself. The only issue with this method is that the crystal will require require frequent cleansing. If you live near a river, lake, pond, or stream this may not be an issue. Simply dip the crystal into the water for a few moments to cleanse it.
Holding the crystal and visualizing the energy going into the crystal will help as well.
Method 3
Use a sigil. The sigil can be “I am grounded”, or something similar. I will try to create a sigil and post it here if you would like to use one of mine.
Personally, I like method 1 the best, as it is the most effective.
Centering
Centering is exactly as it sounds. There is really only one such method that I found works best for me.
In my case, my aura sometimes has a tendency to “float away from me”. Remember, your aura is your first line of defense against psychic attack and energy, and so the further from you it gets, the less effective it’ll be at doing this. Mostly because, while the aura floats away from you, it does not tend to lend itself more energy, even though you are constantly taking on energy.
Centering for me, then, has become a basic breathing exercise.
As you breathe in, close your eyes, and visualize your aura (the electromagnetic field around your body) coming in closer to you. With each breath out, you will visualize the aura moving away from you. Allow your aura to breathe as you do, and with each breath in, bring it closer and closer to you until you feel it is a comfortable distance.
Of course there are other methods, but this is the one I use. Essentially you want to “find your center” to use an old cliche.
I hope this helps. As always, continue to learn and grow mi maripositas.
Norse Mythology: The Nine Worlds
In Norse mythology The Nine Worlds are arranged in the branches of Yggdrasil (literally the “Horse of Odin”- a reference to the time when Odin hung himself upon Yggdrasil, allowing himself to die and be reborn master of the Runes), also known as the “World Tree”. The Nine Worlds comprise all the planes of existence in Norse mythos, including Earth, and Asgard (Realm of the Gods).
There is a lot of information surrounding the great tree itself, and it’s all really quite fascinating. However, for today, I will be concentrating on the Nine Worlds.
Midgard
[Link to Artist]
Midgard is known as the realm of humanity and, interestingly, trolls. For the most part, Midgard comprises our own visible world, and the other eight worlds are, for the most part, invisible. Though, the other eight realms (worlds) may intersect with Midgard at various points.
Midgard is also the middle point along Yggdrasil, resting at the base of the trunk. High above, Asgard sits among the branches, while the realm of the dead, Hel (the underworld- notice the familiarity with the Christian concept “Hell”) is beneath Yggdrasil’s roots.
Surrounding Midgard is a Great ocean, where the serpant Jormungand is said to reside, encircling all of Midgard. At Ragnorak, the giant serpant and Thor are destined to slay eachother.
Also surrounding Midgard is Jotunheim, realm of Giants.
[“Thor’s Battle with the Midgard Serpent” by Johann Heinrich Füssli (1788)]
Asgard
Asgard in Norse mythology and cosmology is the home and fortress of the Aesir, one of the two tribes of Gods. Included in the Aesir are Odin, Thor, Loki, Frigg, Heimdall- and many many others. Heimdall, of course, is the guardian of Asgard, Sitting ever vigilant with his Gjallarhorn (”Resounding Horn”) on Bifrost (the rainbow bridge that leads to Asgard from Midgard).
Asgard is the ultimate example of everything that is innangard (the Norse word translating roughly to “Inside the fence”), or everything that is considered orderly and not chaotic.
Asgard sits high in the branches of Yggdrasil.
Vanaheim
Vanaheim is known as the homeland of the Vanir, the other tribe of Gods in Norse mythos. The Gods of Vanaheim include 6: Beloved Freya, her brother Freyr, Njord, Nethus, Gullveig, and Odr. However, there is some debate on the actual existence of Odr in the Norse Pantheon.
Nevertheless, the Vanir are venerated for their associations with fertility and nature.
Jotunheim
Jutunheim (also known as Utgard- which correlates to the concept of utangard [”beyond the fence”]) is the feared and chaotic realm of the Giants. Jotunheim surrounds Midgard, and contains deep, dark forests, jagged mountaintops, and just overall seems to be a very scary place to be. Among these giants is Fenrir- the giant Wolf, who is said to break free of the chains binding him and swallow the sun during the events of Ragnorak.
I’ll get more in to Ragnorak later!
Neflheim
Neflheim is known as the cold world. In the Marvel events of Thor, Nelfheim is where the icy giant creatures come from. Although, they got the bit about Loki completely wrong…
However, the cold, icy landscape of Neflheim is completely correct. Unfortunately, there is very little information on this particular realm. It is possible, just from looking at the rest of Norse mythology regarding the nine worlds, that Neflheim is, indeed, the home of the Ice Giants.
Muspelheim
If Neflheim is ice, the Muspelheim is fire, and the home of the fire giants.
Muspelheim plays an important role in the creation of the world (Midgard). From my understanding, Midgard was once a vast bit of vastness that spanned between Muspelheim and Nelfeim. Ice from Neflheim and fire from Muspelheim met in the middle of Ginnungagap (that vastness I mentioned) and formed the giant Ymir, whose dead corpse created Midgard. We live on the corpse of a giant. How about that!
Alfheim
The realm of the elves. Elves were considered by the Norse to be beautiful demi-god like creatures that radiates light and beauty. However, elves and humans were not necessarily considered friends, as they were often malevolent spirits that caused illness. These illnesses can be healed by the elves, of course, if you’re willing to give them something they want. The Norse also consider it possible to become an elf upon death, and often venerate their ancestors as elves.
Nidavellir
Nidavellir is considered to be the vast, labyrinthine mines and home of the dwarves, who were revered for their craftsmanship. Again, the dwarves are considered demigods.
Hel
Not to be confused with the Christian concept of “hell”, of course. Hel most closely translates as “hidden” in English, and is the Norse understanding of the “underworld”, where the dead dwell. Hel is said to be below or intertwined in the roots of Yggdrasil, and it is ruled by the goddess Hel.
Hel, in Norse belief, is very different from the Christian Hell of fire, brimstone, and endless torture. Instead Hel is seen as one of the many places one could go upon death, and is more like life on Earth (Midgard) than anything else. They eat, drink, get jobs, sleep, and overall just continue their day-to-day lives in a different location.
So that begs the question: Can one die again in Hel?
But I digress. If you believe in the concept of Hel, do not fear it.
The Vikings and Old Norse peoples had a fascinating albeit complicated mythos and Pantheon, much like many other Pantheons of the pre-Christian pagan landscape.
In the future, I’ll talk more about Norse Myth, the Pantheon, stories, and events.

13 Goals of a Witch: Goal #2, Know Your Craft
It should go without saying, but everybody’s magick is subtly different. This is why the craft is such a personal thing. Teachers like me can show you techniques, theories, and share our experiences, but at the end of the day only you are responsible for your magick.
That is also why you must trust your intuition. The sequence of events here is to know yourself first and foremost, and then know your craft. You must know how to feel with your intuition before you can begin learning the ways your magick works for you. Do what your intuition, and your inner soul/higher self are telling you is right. Do not follow anybody (and I do mean ANYBODY) blindly.
For example: You have heard the term “Nothing is true, everything is permitted”? Yes, we’re pulling geeky things into this.
Well, this is absolutely true, especially in magick. Though I would amend the statement to this: Nothing is absolutely true. Everybody experiences a different and personal level of truth within themselves. In this way, everything is, indeed, permitted.
What does that mean exactly?
It means that you will have to dig deep in order to understand how your magick works.
Here are a few ways you can do that. Over time, you will begin to recognize the patterns your own magick takes, allowing you to further personalize your own craft.
>> Keep a magick journal. This can be your Book of Shadows, or another book. Whenever you perform a spell, write down how you felt during and after the spell. Note anything that seems noteworthy. Note your process, any changes you made to the original spell, etc. Also note what card you pulled. {PRO TIP: I like to do tarot readings before performing spells. This can give me some idea as to the outcome of the spell.} In a few weeks, go back in and write down anything you feel might have been a direct or indirect result of the spell you performed.
>> Keep a dream journal. Write down the dreams you have every night, if you are able. At first it may be difficult to recall your dreams, but over time it will get easier. It’s best to try and do this right as you wake up instead of waiting. You’ll recall your dreams much better, even if your writing is clearly groggy. Do not attempt to interpret your dreams immediately. Instead, wait a few days. Over time, you’ll begin to notice patterns and symbols, and you’ll build a personal directory of correspondences. PRO TIP: You absolutely do not have to use a physical journal. Using something like your phone/tablet/laptop and the notepad on there works just as well. If you have to write it down on paper, you can always transfer the dream to your computer/tablet/phone later.
>> Keep a divination journal. Keep track of and note every reading you do, especially the one you do for yourself. Use whatever method of divination you are most comfortable with. For me, it’s Tarot. Also, read for yourself regularly. It’s important to understand where you are going just as much as it is to know where you are currently at. Both can be accomplished through divination. PRO TIP: Go to a Diviner (tarot reader/psychic) regularly. Be sure it is one you trust, and make sure it is also one who practices magick themselves. It help to get an outside opinion, and doing this will only help you and your craft.
Always continue to learn new things! Keep reading and stretching those intuitive muscles!
As always, I hope this post is informative and helpful!
Keep growing Mi Maripositas!

13 Goals of a Witch: Goal #4 and #5
#4: Apply Knowledge With Wisdom
We have an incredible amount of influences in our modern era that pave the path for modern witches. Professor McGonagall, Stevie Nicks (anyone?), Marie Laveau, often controversial Raymond Buckland and (even more so) Aleistar Crowley. Our own goddess, in the aspect of the Crone (if you follow a Wiccan path, that is), invokes this image of the wise old woman.
And really, that is what sets apart those who are powerful in witchcraft, and those who are not: Wisdom.
It is one thing to learn, which should always be an endeavor, but it is another thing entirely to apply that knowledge in a way that is going to be most beneficial not only for you but also for those around you. Wisdom is not something that can be taught. Wisdom is something that you must know deep within yourself.
Of course, there are things you can do to help increase your wisdom.
>> Experiences are often the main source of wisdom. Each experience we have teaches us something valuable. Do not beat yourself up over mistakes you make. We all make them. Learn from them.
>> Meditation. If you’re sick of hearing/seeing that word on my blog, you’re probably not doing enough of it. Meditation is one of the key tools to use when you’re trying to get deep inside yourself and extract that precious wisdom.
>> Follow through on goals 1-3. That sounds stupid, but it’s true. These “goals” are more like progressive steps to living a better, healthier, witchier life. So, if you are constantly seeking to know yourself, know your craft, and learn then the outcome will be wisdom.
Whats more is that almost all of the goals that we have discussed so far have similar or identical practices. Basic keys include meditation, writing everything down, and studying hard. And that leads us straight on through to goal #5.
#5 Achieve Balance
Achieving balance will be a lifelong (and lives long) journey. Every witch (and perhaps every person) wants to be constantly centered and in harmony with themselves, their energy, the energy that surrounds them, with nature, and with their deities. Of course, this might even be the ultimate goal of our existence.
Which means it’s definitely far from easy.
However, as a daily goal, it’s definitely more achievable.
Fair warning, this is going to follow the same basic formula of meditate and learn, but, add in there grounding and centering.
I wrote a post about grounding and centering here.
Grounding and centering is the easiest way to achieve balance in an instant, but definitely takes a while to master being grounded and centered on a regular basis. This too, should become one of your goals, perhaps under the umbrella of “achieve balance”.
As well, check out my post for the Grounding Stones Bowl, as this really is a very helpful tool.
Basically, the focal points of the Achieve Balance goal are going to be 3 fold:
>> Mental: Self care? You betcha. You need to make sure that you are absolutely taking care of your emotional and psychological needs.
>> Physical: Eat right and exercise. Of course, everyone knows that this is what you should do, but sometimes a good slice of pizza is good for the soul. Don’t deprive yourself of the things you enjoy, but enjoy in moderation. For example, learn how to make a lower calorie, healthier pizza!
>> Spiritual: Whether it is the God and Goddess, the God of the Bible, some other deity, or none at all, your spiritual health is still important. Perhaps spiritual balance is the main focal point of magick, and, as witches, spiritual health should be one of our main focuses as we practice magick. Spiritual health can be connecting with your deities, ancestors, the Earth and nature, other spirits, and even connecting to your own soul.
Basically, here is the break down to help you get started with this goal: Find something that makes you happy and do that often. Hobbies, baths, showers, walks, nature-hikes- whatever. Pay attention to the way you feel and recognize that, in that moment, that is what you may need to feel. Suck it in, then let it go. Ground and center yourself. Pick up a physical hobby! Rock-climbing, kayaking, swimming, walking, running, tennis- whatever. You’ll feel better, I promise. Eat more green stuff. Actually, try and make your dinner plates as colorful and natural as possible. Get in touch with nature. Spend the day leisuring in the woods. It’ll do wonders for your soul. Talk to your gods. Talk to the animals. Talk to the trees. Hell- talk to yourself. If you have connected with your guardian, talk to them often too.
And, don’t forget to be mundane. Part of balance is balancing your mundane life with your magickal life. Go to the movies. Hang with friends. Go to the mall.
And, as always, remember to keep learning Mi Maripositas!

~10 Kinds Of Magical Books~
1. Book Of Shadows- A witch’s book of spells, rituals, personal feelings, etc. It is a general book for any metaphysical or religious information that you wish to put into it, among other things.
2.Bestiary- A sometimes hand-written encyclopedia or manual of mythological and magical creatures and beings, used for reference when you want to work with a non-human energy, or for general research.
3.Grimoire- Usually filled with tables and charts, lists relating to astrological, numerical, and color correspondences; properties of crystals, herbs, trees, etc. Contains moon phase meanings and medicinal properties of plants- This one has an old-timey textbook feel to it, usually.
4.Book Of Mirrors- a special journal, where you ‘reflect’ on things going on in your day to day life, providing deep insights which are invaluable when you’re doing work regarding personal growth. Very helpful with developing personal spiritual philosophies.
5.Book Of Moons- A book entirely relating to the moon and it’s cycles, names of the moons of each month, their attributes and energies, dates of lunar eclipses as well as full moon dates of upcoming moons. Filled with vast knowledge of lunar attributes and special dates of red moons, blue moons, etc.
6.Dream Journal- Here you record the dreams you have in as much detail as you can remember, and some people draw images from their dream adventures in this book as well, since dreams use the language of symbolism and imagery. You interpret the meanings of your dreams in here too, if you wish. Dreams can help us get a glimpse into our subconscious and the more dreams you write the easier it becomes for you to remember them.
7. Book of Visions- A vision book is used with the law of attraction, it is a ‘vision board’ in book form. Put different images of things you want in life, be they experiences, physical items, money, health, etc, in the pages of the book. Open the book up to pictures of what you want to visualize having. Think of this as an on-the-go vision board, except with much more space as there are so many pages!
8.Book Of Positive Aspects- At the top of each page you write the name of a topic that you are unhappy with, like ‘the workplace’ for example. Below the topic title you begin listing all the positive aspects of the subject, and by the end of your list your emotions will be in a much better place regarding the topic. You can do a list a day or many in one sitting, it is a valuable tool for cultivating positive energy or for switching viewpoints on things that normally would upset you.
9.Gratitude Journal- A book where you write about EVERYTHING you are thankful and appreciative for in your life right now. You feel overwhelmed with love and positivity when writing in this book, which aids you in raising your vibration and frequency.
10. Book Of Intuitions- a psychic journal, it’s a book where all divination and psychic exercises are recorded, ranging from full tarot spreads, to tea leaf readings, even psychic impressions you pick up off people. It’s handy for tracking progress as well as for record keeping.
I usually use Grimoire and Book of Shadows interchangeably, but overall I really like this list.
My 10 Tips to Being a Successful Witch
Others may have a different notion of what success means and how to get there in magick, but this is what I’d like to say from my experience with magick and witchcraft.
What is a successful witch to me?
To me, a successful witch is a witch who never stops learning, never stops growing, and is connected to and confident in her magick. Now, when I say never, I use that term very loosely; we all fall down, sometimes we need breaks, and our failures do not erase our successes. But a successful witch, to me, is someone who pushes on through the struggles and gets back up.
My Tips
Never let go of your witchling spark. There was likely an allure to magick that brought you here. Never lose sight of that inspiration because it is a source of motivation and joy. That spark is what makes magick so magical. Magick is full of miracles and you have the power to make those miracles and experience those miracles. And when you look at your initial spark, know that there many more unexplored, fantastic, magical experiences ready for you to claim them. I hope that using some of these other tips will help you keep hold of your spark.
Do not limit your magick. Stop focusing on what magick isn’t because you will never reach the limits and you can always grow. If you see something and know that you cannot achieve it, there are two options you can take. The first option: find an alternative. Can’t fly? What’s the next best thing? Learn to astral project on the real-time zone and fly with your astral body. The second option: work to get the power you need before you can achieve your goal. If aerokinesis isn’t working for you, try going one step lower and working with energy manipulation and then go back to aerokinesis later. If you don’t know what one step lower is, then look into other forms of magick, strengthen your connection to the metaphysical and your power, and look back st your goal later and see if you can figure anything out with the new abilities and knowledge you have.
Look for inspiration. Keeping in mind my last tip, try looking for inspiration in music, art, film, books, etc. Listen to what other witches have experienced, expose yourself and talk to other successful and passionate witches, psychics, occultists, psions, etc. Brainstorm magical ideas, no matter how crazy and unrealistic, and get creative, then figure out how you can utilize this in your magick in a way that could actually work.
Take opportunities. In the modern era, we have soo much information on magick. We are so lucky for that. You can read about so many methods of magick, so many spirits, you can read folklore and occultism and healing. Take in this knowledge and jump at any opportunity for practice you can because you have so many opportunities ahead of you. You can commune with the dead! You can work with faeries, and not only that but you have so much information available to you for how to approach that and all these different faery cultures. The astral is huuge and YOU can experience that and get out of your body! Or in your body with trances, ASC, soul dives. There is so much in front of you. Take these opportunities because there is always more you can do and there is always more to explore.
Ask questions. By asking questions, you will dig deeper into your understanding of the world around you and yourself. When you practice your craft or when you study, ask questions wherever you can. You can ask other witches questions or you can ask yourself and figure out what you can do to find that answer. Don’t lay your trust in everything you hear.
Avoid alienation. If you discover lots of magick abilities and paranormal abnormalities, do not isolate yourself by emphasizing how different you are. We’re all unique and we’re all different, but if you really focus on how strange you seem and how different you are, you may begin to overestimate yourself and underestimate others. Yes, there are plenty of people who are not connected to magick, but you’re not the only one. This can be both comforting to know there are others like you out there as well as humbling, and it is a way you can make sure you’re disrespecting others as little as possible. Blowing things out of proportion can also cause you to feed yourself lies, limit your view of the world, and subsequently limit your mind. This god complex has surely affected me before, and I’ve seen it affect other practitioners as well. It’s belittling and disrespectful to others and it limits your capability to grow. It tends to be more helpful to focus on how things (and people!) are similar and how they connect rather than focusing on how they don’t.
Organize your information. This is something I’ve found works for me (and I might make a post dedicated to just how I do this). Throughout your craft, you can find different categories that you can delve into later in your craft. It’s not enough to put everything under the broad category of “magick”. We also have things like enchantment, correspondences, manifestation, divination, energy manipulation, psi constructs, healing, cursing, etc. If you lay out all the different areas of magick that you can explore in all the different ways you can, you can go back to those lists later when you feel lost in your craft. If you ever don’t know what you want to work with next, you can look at one of these categories and start from there.
Practice is invaluable. You can read a bunch and listen to witches, but your experience as a witch relies on your practice. I would personally recommend that you make time for your practice with a higher priority than studying what others have to say. You may want to play it as safe as possible and read and read and it is GOOD to read on protection magick but if you read and read excessively about this and that you will never experience. If you want to grow as a witch and if you want to gain magical memories and if you want to expand your abilities then you will have to live and experience magick.
Do what works and keep an open mind. This doesn’t mean do what works for others or do what someone says works. This means that you practice and do what you discover works. Maybe you started off with something like a sigil but it ended up as something else, but if it works then who cares. Work with it. Different people learn better in different ways. Some people are audio learners, others study best by reading over and over, some people speak, some people are visual. Magick is about taking in concepts from a ritual, tools, and your intent, whatever you’re using, and then manifesting that and sometimes things just make more sense to you one way than another. Whatever gets you the results you want, then do THAT. Not what someone else claims works and what doesn’t. Likewise, be open-minded towards methods other people use because it might work for them. Do what works despite what others might say about you and despite what even some witches claim you can’t be doing. That is true power.
Find impractical practices. Okay, that sounds kind of funny, but I can explain. Practical magick is really important (the kind I’m referring to). Practical magick gives you money when you’re broke and need to pay your rent, it gives you a sunny day when it’s supposed to rain at your pool party, and it protects your home and helps your sick children. Practical magick is meant to help your needs and that is very important. Except. What about when you don’t need anything? What about when you’re passionate about magick but nothing needs protecting and nothing needs healing? This is where you can work with magick for the sake of magick. Meditation and energy manipulation can keep you in shape. Maybe you want to make it rain just because you like rain. Practices that do not serve dire needs can still help you move along as a witch, fill the gaps when you’re not in need, and these practices will still give you experience and knowledge as a witch.
13 Goals of a Witch: Goal #12 and #13
#12: Meditate
As a witch, this is something we are constantly told. In the past, I have spoken of meditation as a sort of fix-all for a lot of situations, and since I have already done a post about my method of meditation, I think I will take this time to talk about some of the major benefits and purposes to regular meditation.
Meditation help to improve your psychic abilities. This cannot be understated. Working through a daily meditation will vastly improve your connection to the world around you, both physical and spiritual. It helps to “open your third eye”, and can also improve the points of energy throughout your body (Eastern religions call these points of energy [meridians, in some traditions] “Chakras”). Locating your third eye is easy, too. Once in meditation, having released all stresses and found your center, concentrate your energy to the middle of your forehead, just above and between your eyebrows. I’m not entirely sure why it is, but this area seems to be the epicenter for visions to “come through”. Don’t be surprised if “opening the eye” takes time. Just keep at it and allow the visions to come on their own time! You’ll also find that daily meditation will vastly improve your confidence and connection to the energies that comprise our different world, dimensions, past, present, and future.
Mediation vastly improves your balance. This isn’t a physical balance that I am talking about. This is more of an “alignment of the Chakras”. Although it will take time to learn how to trigger certain energy points and how to “clear” them, simple meditation can certainly facilitate that learning and, in fact, help to clear a lot of them just by the simple fact that meditation forced you to release stresses.
Meditation will improve your connection to the divine.
Meditation will improve your connection to the “spirit world”.
Meditation will increase your capacity for learning.
Meditation will vastly improve your mental health.
Protips:
Always cast some sort of circle.
When picking places to meditate, choose a space that is comfortable and familiar and where you won’t be disturbed at first.
As you grow and learn, try meditating outside in your yard, in the woods, by a lake, river, stream or ocean. The sounds of nature can help induce meditation.
Longer sessions will be the most enlightening, but don’t be afraid to work up to it.
Eventually, you may even try “projecting” your conscious mind out of your body. This is one method of astral projection (which is something I’m still working on, so research outside of my blog on this subject before attempting).
Goal #13: Honor the God and Goddess
This is a very wiccan witch goal. If you are not Wiccan, then your 13th goal may be different.
However, I’ll get to that in a minute. Let me speak briefly directly to fellow Wiccans.
Know that whatever it is that you are doing, especially in magick, our goal is always to honor diety. For us, magick is more than practical, it is also a religious practice. We perform magick in honor of the Lord and Lady. All other goals, for us, are to this end. So, stay true to that.
For those who are NOT Wiccan and perhaps your craft is a secular craft, here are some goals that you may use in lue of the Wiccan goal:
Seek Always to Better Humanity
As witches, we have a tremendous amount of power that can be used for the good of other people. Our spells can help to fight for the oppressed. We can act as humanitarians with magick.
Honor Nature
We can also use our magick to fight as environmentalists. Help to put the right people in charge to change the way we have been treating our home. We can seek to heal our world with our magick and just in general make it a better place to live.
These two other goals, of course, can be secondary goals for the Wiccan, who may use those things in order to honor the God and Goddess.
Always remember, Mi Maripositas, our strength as witches comes from within. We can feel empowered to make real change happen when we realize that we don’t need any external influences to accomplish this. For the Wiccan, we know that we are creatures of the divine, and as such the divine is within us. We are a part of nature and can move the flow of energy to our will entirely of our own accord.
Stay beautiful Mi Maripositas!

Magickal Ideas for Samhain
Carve a pumpkin and empower it to repel negativity or to protect the home
Build a shrine to your ancestors
Add divination to your ritual
Drink apple cider warmed and spiced with cinnamon to honor the dead
Research your family history and write a tribute to them to include in your ritual
Set a place at the dinner table for the recently deceased
Place small carved pumpkins at the four quarters
Visit cemetery and place flowers on the graves of your loved ones
Make a spirit candle.(White candle anointed with patchouli oil. Say:”with this candle and by its light, I welcome you spirits this Samhain night.” Place it inside jack o’lantern. This may be included in Ritual, or done separately.)
Make resolutions and burn in a candle flame. This is not the same as ridding yourself of bad habits, but is more like New Years resolutions, as for many Samhain is the New Year.
I’m getting so AMPED for Samhain!!!
Astrology 101: Understanding Terms
Astrology is probably the most confusing of all of the divinatory arts. All the terms, the nuances, and math involved in providing an accurate reading can be overwhelming.
Luckily, we have modern tools to help us with charting.
You can, of course, learn how to chart yourself, but I find that, unless you’re super interested in staying very classic, it’s really unnecessary.
I use a simple app, called Time Nomad, which is free to download and will build your entire chart for you.
Now, there is a lot that goes in to Astrology, and I am still learning. This is simply what I have learned so far!
Now, in Astrology there are a lot of terms and such that can get incredibly confusing, especially for beginners. So heres a small list of the most common terms:
Natal Chart: This chart marks the planetary positions at the precise moment of your birth, and provides the most accurate outlook on your personality and views. For the most accurate natal chart, you will need your birth day, place of birth, and time of birth as close to the minute as you can get.
Essential Dignity: This describes the perspective strength of a particular sign in relation to the astrological body you are looking at. Dignity means that the sign is positioned perfectly in it’s own domain. Detriment is the weakest position of all where the astrological body you are looking at is opposite its own domain.
Conjunction: 0°- A perfect unity between two planets.
Opposition: 180°- Planets are in opposite houses, creating a polarity. Opposition is usually a “hard” confrontation between self and outside forces.
Square: 90°- square is usually a direct conflict between two houses. The energies involved create an every dueling effect. Planets that are square to eachother will create a weakness.
Trine: 120°- Trine comes in to play with the rule of three, and creates a harmony of the bodies in question. Planets that are trine to eachother will play to your strengths.
Sextile: 60°- The bodies involved cooperate smoothly, creating inspiration. Planets that are sextile to eachother will play to your strengths, and may have a great deal to do with your passions.
Now, lets take a look at some of the planetary bodies involved in a chart:
Of course, we know that the 9 planets are involved, plus the sun, so lets start there:
Sun- When most people say “I’m a Sagittarius!” or “I’m a Virgo!” they are usually referring to their Sun sign. The sun sign is determined by your birthday, and charts the suns position in the sky and the house it’s in on the day of your birth. The sun will be the most prevalent aspect of ones personality, and is a good overview.
Moon- The moon sign is the sign that is probably the second most prevalent. The moon sign will determine your emotional self. These are your inner way of thinking, and it also usually plays a big role in your intelligence as well.
Black Moon- The dark moon, black moon, or “Lilith” sign is a sign that determines our shadow self. It describes the depths of our subconscious and usually exploits our weaknesses. The Black Moon sign is the darker side of our person.
Mercury- Mercury describes our communication skillset. How do you communicate with loved ones? Strangers? It also describes how we react to change, how we adapt, and what keeps us young and our hearts on fire.
Venus- Describes our love life. The yin side of our libido. The “softer” lover side of our relationships. Also describes our artistic and creative endeavors and what drives our physical aesthetic. Our “style” as it were.
Mars- Mars is, essentially, our fight or flight trigger. It describes how we are likely to react when dealing with conflict. What is our power? Will also describe the “yang” side of our libido. The power side. The dominant side.
Jupiter- Associated with law, Jupiter describes what drives our moral code. How are we likely to react in situations regarding the law? Also describes our motivations, and may be a big factor in our career choices.
Saturn- As the last planet seen by the naked eye, Saturn is a powerful determiner of our limitations, and financial choices. Can also describe how we organize our thoughts and day-to-day lives.
Uranus- Uranus is associated with our ever changing lives, and describes our innovative capacity, and how we progress. Uranus describes our need to be different, and how we express that need.
Neptune- Associated with the ocean, this planetary sign will describe your imagination, your dreams, aspirations, and psychic abilities.
Pluto- Pluto is Lord of the Underworld. Pluto is another sign that describes our shadow self. As an essential cycle of life, death is important. How do we destroy? How do we deal with death and loss?
Part of Fortune- What brings you luck and fortune?
South Node- Describes our past situations that shape today. Or karma.
North Node- Describes the future and destiny that we are moving to.
Ascendant- Signifies the beginnings of a person and helps to answer the question “who am I?”
Descendant- Personal relationship and dealings with others- friends and foes, lovers, business partners, etc.
Imum Coeli- Forces that shaped our lives in the early stages.
Midheaven- The most significant sign for your career and goals and aspirations in life. What do you want to accomplish in the world?
Vertex- How do you relate to others? A particularly important point to look at when looking at synastry. This is the point to look at when looking for relationship compatibility (as well as Venus and Mars).
This begins my new adventure in the world of Astrology! Many astrologers study for YEARS to become masters, so don’t feel discouraged if you don’t quite get it yet. It may be helpful to actually go see a reputable Astrologer and have them read your Natal Chart.
However, I do hope this helps, as always, Mi Maripositas!
