More lightbox action! Bit of a hard swerve from dinosaurs here, but there are also other things that I enjoy! One of those things being Avatar: The Last Airbender. So, I made this group portrait of the Gaang as a birthday present for @saigonegirl, a wonderful friend and fellow fan of ATLA!
The process for this one was a bit different to my previous lightboxes, where I had done them only traditionally I instead started this one off with a digital sketch, since it was important to make sure the characters were all positioned well in the composition, and certain details like Aang’s eyes now being blocked by any piece behind them were important.
I also tried a new method of creating two-toned layers, by sticking two pieces of paper directly together to create costume details for the characters. It took a while to figure out exactly what pieces of the designs I would use the double-layer technique on, but I’m very satisfied with the final result!
Notice how the time is stopped during the swap :).
Getting the cyclist and the pedestrian to stand still was easy. Getting the pigeons to stop flying and just hang in the air like that took ages.

“I live everything through her. It’s so good because I get to express so much through her and she gets away with so much mischief and naughtiness that I never would get away with, but is also, you know, deeply kind of dangerous and equally as terrifying. So it’s, it’s the dream job. She’s the best, I think.”

Perhaps the recent exertions had had some fallout in the nature of reality because, while they were eating, for the first time ever, a nightingale actually did sing in Berkeley Square. Nobody heard it over the noise of the traffic, but it was there, right enough.
That certain night, the night we met, There was magic abroad in the air. There were angels dining at the Ritz And a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square. I may be right, I may be wrong, But I’m prefectly willing to swear That when you turned and smiled at me A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square…

Just me putting myself favourite official Xander art into one post, for reference, carry on.
HOWEVER, before you go, I need to point out that the cards show him in two main modes: regal elegant old tired crime boss OR running around (or rather like, dying or lying around dead) barefoot, shirtless, in suit pants and a bathrobe - and I really appreciate that, very good combo of modes, chef kiss.
Ok, carry on now.
