Critic Annalisa Quinn says Mark O’Connell’s new essay collection – about his experiences with doomsday preppers and end-times groups across the globe – is “charming, anxious and tender.” Check out her full review here.

I really don’t get people saying Steve has been “done dirty” in the show because like... yes, it sucks to see a character you love hurting, but he also has so much amazing character development we’re all aware of and it’s like; in particular, people have been saying how sad it is that he’s just this loser guy working a minimum wage job now and like... okay don’t hide the classism or anything lmao
Listen. What this show did was accurately portray what it’s like to graduate high school. That’s it, really. Maybe you’re tough shit in high school, maybe you’re not. You probably get your heart broken, at least once. Then you’re out in the real world desperately trying to just make things work.
Like... We should be proud of Steve dedicating himself to work when his parents are actually loaded. We should be happy for him for that. And like. Working in the service industry shouldn’t be seen as inherently demeaning. Just saying. Yeah, the costumes are a running joke in the show, but? Let the boy live.
And also, yeah, would it be nice to see Steve in a happy, loving romantic relationship? Of course! But that’s not the only way people need support and companionship. Remember... we’ve never seen Steve have any real friends (his age) before Robin. Maybe he needs that first, to recalibrate how he sees social interactions overall, before he moves on to a romantic relationship. This is good for him.
And his position is relatable. A lot of young adults are in exactly his position of working your ass off, feeling lost, feeling down on yourself; but we also have that ability to find those small pockets of joy and the people that make us happy. And that’s really important, and it’s an important thing to show about being a young person. Because it does kind of just. Suck. But it’s also showing us that it does get better, and there are good things to look forward to.

When asked about his main interest in photography, Ole Marius Joergensen once said that rather than capturing a version of reality, he loves to create illusions. The Oslo based photographer has a background in film that shows in his cinematic and atmospheric images, described as appearing almost unreal, or as Joergensen puts it, “a Norwegian strain of surrealism”. This is especially true of his new series “Behind the Curtains,” a surreal set of images shown through the eyes of his inquiring subjects, and catching them in moments of forbidden fascination.

“Public radio stations across the U.S. have a finger on the pulse when it comes to local music. They know their homegrown music scenes intimately and aren’t shy about championing the artists that emerge from their communities.”
