you should probably stop saying “free speech” because 1) it exists to protect you from government censorship which means 2) it doesn’t protect you from private consequences to having and publicizing your oppressive beliefs

I always hear SJWs say “it’s not my job to educate you.” But really, it IS. When you declare yourself an activist, it’s your responsibility to do what you can to advocate for your cause, and yes, that includes educating people
lots of us don’t label ourselves activists, though. most of us run personal blogs where we talk about our lives and the shit we like and occasionally the shit we put up with in society. while it may seem like activism to you, oppressed people talking about their lives is just a normal thing we do as people. if someone runs a dedicated social justice blog, then you can call them on saying “it’s not my job to educate you” but when you’re dealing with people who post a bunch of fandom shit and kittens and reblogs of injustices you can’t demand that we do something you could do yourself with a goddamn google search
Whoever emailed my boss obviously had some free time on their hands. My question is, why couldn’t they have used that free time to talk to me about their problem? To try to educate me? Rather than typing an email to my boss, type that email to me instead and deal with the problem head on
maybe they were one of my followers (if so, rock on follower!) and they saw that you’re willfully obtuse when people tell you how shitty your behavior is (though after this much time it’s evident that you’re just a shitty person) and decided to go a more efficient route
This email was sent yesterday, and I haven’t gotten any messages on here regarding my posts since then or before the time the email was sent, so what gives? Why couldn’t you take the three seconds to ask me “why do you think this way?” or say “I disagree with you because x,y,z?”
you think those ways because you are incredibly attached to your privilege and you enjoy hurting the people in marginalized groups because you’re a fucking abomination. also, refer to the point above about how talking to you is like arguing with a doorknob

Regardless of how I may feel about somebody, I would never ever wish for them to lose their job. For a lot of people, their current jobs are all they have. It’s their only way to survive. To try to take away somebody’s only source of income and destroy the prospects of their career is just doing way too much
some people deserve it though. racists, misogynists, transphobes, homophobes (ding ding ding you’ve hit all 4 of those at one point or another) deserve to suffer
I understand that sometimes people post hurtful things, but they’re just that, posts. You’ve got to realize that at the end of the day, these are just pixels on a computer screen. When you’re done reading them, you still get to go home and go about your life. But when you fuck with somebody in the real world, that’s taking things to a whole nother level. When I go home, I can’t go about my life now, because I have to deal with the stress and fear that comes along with the fact that more people are probably going to target me and that I can probably get fired without a moment’s notice the second somebody decides to do what these other people have done
here’s the thing. we don’t get to just ~go about our life~. these harmful things people post? they’re a daily reality for a lot of us. we live in a world where some people think we deserve to die just for existing. where some people think they get to decide and vote on our rights. where some people interact with us but never take us seriously and that’s a thing we can pick up on. we live the shit in the posts made by people like you every day. some of us work for people like that. some of us have to live with people like that. some of us are actually completely dependent on people like that and goddammit tumblr should be a place where we don’t have to put up with that and people like you delight in making sure that’s impossible because, as stated above, you’re abominations
I know that this will be responded to with MALE TEARS gifs and other nonsense, and that’s cool, because I expect nothing less from the types of lowlifes who would do this to another person. I just hope that at least one of you considers this the next time there’s a witchhunt on tumblr. This is going way too far. Regardless of what your beliefs are, I still believe that everybody should be treated with respect. That means that when you have a problem with somebody, you tell them. This is a website on the internet. Let’s keep it on here and not fuck with people in the real world. That’s never acceptable. Nobody deserves to have their career destroyed for disagreeing with you
