“—But I’m considerably older than you are, and you’re a Queen.” Josh tried to argue his point. The barely knew anything about each other anymore. The last time he’d seen her, she was still just a child. How could they possibly make this thing work between them? She’d grow bored, and then where would they stand?
"You're not that much older, I'm sure there are people with much larger age gaps in this situation." She countered, she hadn't actually thought of the age gap, she hadn't been expecting this that she hadn't really thought about anything. "I'm fairly certain titles have nothing to do with this."

“Stubborn should definitely be your middle name.” Josh teased. He was about to release the hold he had on Amira’s when the unexpected happened. The tattoo on his bare left forearm buzzed and lit up like a Christmas tree. Eyes wide, his gaze kept drifting from the tattoo and back to Amira. He was gobsmacked and didn’t know what to say, so after a time all he did was stare at her face expectantly.
“Amira Stubborn Saud definitely has a ring to it.” She laughed. Glancing down at his tattoo, unsure how to react. She had paid very close attention when everything was explained, she knew exactly what it meant but she didn’t think it would happen so quickly. “Well, at least it’s someone I know.” She let out an awkward chuckle, mimicking what she had said earlier as she looked back up to his face.

“Forever is a long time, Amira. Forever is not what’s guaranteed.” He smirked, nodding his understanding. “I’ll try…” The Guardian said, squeezing Amira’s hand in return. There was still so much guilt that he felt about the situation, but perhaps he would be able to let go of it soon.
“Well I’m patient enough and stubborn enough.” She laughed. “Good I’m glad.” She smiled, glancing down at their hands as he squeezed it back. It was then that she started to feel buzzing coming from her shoulder, rolling it to try and stop the sensation.

“Are you seriously giving me permission to be grumpy?” Josh questioned with a raised brow. “—That might be the wrong thing to say, Amira. I might just stay grumpy forever.” He teased, though the smile dropped just a few seconds later. “I have a lot of guilt I carry, and I don’t know how to let go of it yet…”
“Well if you stay grumpy forever, I’ll just have to try and cheer you up forever.” She laughed, growing serious when she saw him do so. “There is no need for your guilt, but we can work on it, okay?” She gave a small smile, shifting her arm out of his hold so that her hand was in his, giving it a squeeze.

“I was…” Josh apologized again, and for the first time, he agreed with her assessment. He was thinking about himself. “It’s not fine… I didn’t think about you. I just thought of myself. Let me make it up to you…” He said with a kinder and more genuine smile. “I won’t be grumpy anymore, if that helps.”
Seeing his smile, as well as his promise, she couldn’t help but give a small chuckle and shake her head. “No you can be grumpy. Nobody can be happy all the time, but don’t dwell on the past okay? Hamir liked you, he’d want you to be happy.”

Her outburst had his brows raising. Josh knew then that he’d fucked up big time. He didn’t even think about her. This whole time, he’d been sullen for his misgivings, for the errors of his ways, and he didn’t even know how to forgive himself. What he didn’t take into consideration was her feelings, and how much she’s had to borne in her young age. The Guardian reacted right away, reaching for her tiny wrist as she tried to walk past him. “Amira, I’m sorry…” He said with a tired sigh. “I didn’t mean to make you angry…” Using very little force, he pulled her back, forcing her to face him, before apologizing again. “I apologize.”
Blinking rapidly to clear the tears from her eyes as she was stopped and turned back around, she refused to look up at him, instead focusing on his hold on her wrist. “No because you were just thinking about yourself.” She grumbled, already hearing her mothers voice chiding her for acting so childish, especially in public. Taking a deep breath, she composed herself, finally looking up at him. “It’s fine.”

“Aveline” he replied, continuing to petting her
“Aveline is a beautiful name. Where did you find him?”

“Probably. But it’d result in lots of blood and an eye-patch, if not my death, which is a lot of work. So I’d rather find something else to do, if you get me.”
“Yeah, I don’t imagine it would be very good. We could go exploring if you’d like? I’ve explored some parts but this place is so big it’ll take a while to see all of it.”

“You don’t even know me, I don’t want to annoy you”
“You won’t annoy me if I offered, and sometimes it’s good to just speak even to a stranger.”

Josh was taken aback by Amira’s sudden outburst. She had always been so reserve and kind as a child. This was something he’d have to get used to. It was rather pleasant to witness, even if the content of her lecture was a painful reminder of how badly he’d failed her and her family. “You don’t understand, Amira. You were just a kid. You’ll probably never understand.” He responded to her sadly.
“I won’t understand? How dare you, you have no right to tell me what I do and do not understand. I understand a lot more than you give me credit for.” Her voice growing louder at the audacity. “My father died when I was six years old, leaving me the Queen of my country, I lost my brother a few years after that so don’t you dare tell me that I will not understand. I think it is you who does not understand.” She prodded a finger into his chest angrily before storming past him, trying to stop the tears welling in her eyes.

“I may have dislocated my shoulder but I’ll live” he nodded
“Oh well, that’s easily sorted isn’t it?”

Dmitri bowed his head ever so slightly in gratitude, and took the nearest bottle of water. “I would recommend cheesecake.” He suggested in his Russian drawl.
“Cheesecake it’ll be then.” Amira grinned, pulling the dish out of the fridge. “Do you want some?”

A few minutes have passed and he sat there, patiently waiting, before clearing his throat. “Have you… made a decision yet?” Dmitri asked, his thick Russian accent showing through.
“Oh sorry, I didn’t realise you were waiting.” Amira said stepping back from the fridge. “I’m still not too sure what I want yet, you can go.”

“I found him therefore he’s mine” he smirked as he looked up at the first
“Oh he’s adorable! Cats are my favourite.” She grinned, reaching out to scratch behind the felines ears. “What are you going to call him?”

“ No no I said take a GOOD. Picture – Take it again. My professor has to be thoroughly convinced that I’m modeling in Quezon or I’m screwed. ”
“I’m sorry, I’m not a photographer I’m trying my best.”

“Well, I’ll teach you, and don’t worry about your mother. She won’t find out.” Josh reassured the younger princess. He really didn’t want to have to talk about his past experiences, it didn’t matter. Why should he have to talk about it? “It’s a job, Amira. What’s there to enjoy.”
“Thank you.” She nodded, at his comment she stopped in her tracks, crossing her arms across her chest and glaring at him. “Alright Josh. if you are acting like this because of what happened to Haris you need to stop. What happened was a terrible accident, but nothing anyone could have done would have saved him, not even you. No one blames you for it.”
