It was a day filled with interviews, meeting the mentors in person and getting introduced to the task 3 of our mentorship programme. We also met the incredible India and South Africa representatives Sonia Khan and Bridget Harrison respectively. @florimaunders and I chatted away about our experience so far and our reflections of writing for grade 1 piano and music in general. ABRSM Composers Mentoring Scheme I recently handed my first drafts of my piano compositions for the future ABRSM Grade 1 syllabus. The screenshot is from the meeting I had with the doyen of music education composers, Alan Bulard. His pieces are loved and played by many students around the world. He thoroughly reviewed my 2 pieces bar by bar and suggested edits that not only made the piece friendlier for the grade 1 fingers but enhanced the compositions, musically, conceptually and structurally. Earlier today, I was at the @glasgowartclub_ to deputy @anknaarockiam who along with @jslimings , hosts the Wednesdays at 1 concert series curated Westbourne music. It was incredible to see Samrat Majumder perform today. He is a terrific guitarist of Scottish-Indian origins. A great day meeting the amazing members of the art club. They have fabulous food too. Beyond delighted to report that my clarinet pieces “Dreamy Siesta” and “Pintoo’s Rain Dance” have found a new home in the newly published Trinity College of London’s 2023 clarinet syllabus. I absolutely loved writing these pieces along with piano accompaniment for budding clarinet enthusiasts. I hope these pieces bring a lot of joy and lot of positivity to the student learning this instrument. I am particularly pleased that my dedication to my father, Anand, has been retained in the publication. His name is printed on books that will travel the lengths of this world. He was an inspiration and the reason for my being. This brings me a lot of joy and hopefully, father, I have made you proud. Thank you ABRSM composers scheme for organising this meeting with the artistic director, composer and pianist Alexis Ffrench, who was visiting my alma mater today. I thank Alexis for shining new light onto my compositional pathway. There were many questions he put forward that helped mould my thoughts better. It was lovely to have the principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Jeffrey Sharkey join us. He has always been kind to my work and encouraged my projects. Thank you Oliver Iredale Searle for recommending my name to the ABRSM composers scheme. I was pleased to meet the vice principal, Lois Fitch today.
