Tumblr Reflection :)!!!!!!!!!

At the beginning of this semester my understanding of rhetoric and writing was minimal.  I was completely oblivious about all the components that make rhetoric up. I   At first, to me rhetoric was simply writing in terms of persuading your audience. It’s a way to communicate information comprehensibly. Although my predication might of been semi-true, I still was able to developed a more in depth understanding of it as well as knowing the convections necessary to have an effective way to communicate in writing and in all social aspects. This class has change my perception of what rhetoric and writing is. Both the genre analysis and literature review established a realization that there a lot of mechanistic to help persuade your purpose while writing. Knowing the subject matter, the types of genre, rhetorical strategies, and specifics writing process for what you’re dealing with all took into play and help me understand that rhetoric and writing is and how its a  everyday usage.Undoubtedly, my thoughts of rhetoric along with writing have changed !

Multimodal was a fun way to incorporate gifs within our reading responses. I learned that they have a purpose, whether it be to entertain or help back up the information you’re stating. It also appealed to the readers which we learned is essential. It ultimately showed me the interrelationship between reading and writing in producing an argument in its different modes, particularly the relationship between words and images.  This method certainly influenced my perception of rhetoric. It helped me make evidence-based interpretations of the text and develop critical thinking.

If I could, I would say all my Tumblr post were my top work but we all know that would make me sound cocky.  However, the introduction post, week 6 reading response and  week 8’s reading response are my top3 post on Tumblr to me.

The introduction post was  my first time using Tumblr and I put a lot of effort to this post to make sure I made a great first impression. Additionally, since we introduce ourselves through this post I was able to thoroughly introduce myself , answer the questions to the best of my ability which I wouldn’t have able to do so verbally and in person.  I feel I expressed myself truly, thus giving me reason it was great post. Not to mention, I had the most responses on this post which made me feel like I did a great job. A whooping 11 responses! Haha

Next, week 6 reading response had a different set of questions to answer. The reason I believe its one of my top work is because I was able to give my opinion about reading. I believe I answered all the questions thoroughly and appropriately. I was able to connect the response to myself and explain a lot more than the original format of question. Additionally, it just gave me a strong  interpretation of reading and helpful reading strategies.

Lastly , I believe that week 8’s reading was my top post because I was able understand how it connects to my major and that gave me an opportunity to relate with out any problems. It dealt with choosing and integrating evidence in academic writing and it illustrated the importance of having evidence and ways to effectively integrate it in our papers, which was really helpful when I was completing the lit review. In addition, I loved the multimodal/mixed media used in the post, I think it was appropriately used which made my post strong.

I was very skeptical at the beginning of the semester when we were told we’re using Tumblr, but to my surprise I enjoyed it. Using Tumblr to post our reading responses rather than blackboard truly was enjoyable because it’s something, I believe, that college students are into. We are into the social media concept, using hastags/gifs and Tumblr was a great way to have something were on the daily integrated into our school work.

The best part I loved about using Tumblr was being able to use Gifs. Doing our Tumblr post were more enjoyable and was way more eye-catching to our readers. Interacting with student’s outside of blackboard was better because I saw more authenticity in their responses rather if they did it in blackboard. If I had to change my Tumblr experience, I wouldn’t because it think Ii went smoothly, it was user friendly and truly enjoyable. It was something different and using gifs was the best.

Week 13- Reading Response!!

Week 13’s reading, Developing Multimodal Academic Literacies among college Freshman by Gloria E. Jacobs main theme  is that the integration of multimodal texts into daily instruction is an effective way to support student learning. This reading discussed the exploration of academic literacies and multimodalities and how their concepts play in order create a rich learning environment. Jacobs highlights that the we need to evolve into using multimodal text, she states, “ Doing so may be an important part of guiding their development as academic thinkers and writers, as well as preparing them for engagement in a media rich society.” Overall, this reading proved that the engagement in multimodal academic literacies when taught alongside traditional composition helps students gain a better understanding of how academic arguments are constructed.

This reading connects to my major because like academic literacies, nursing needs to gather evidence to support their claim and “interpretation of evidence considering the claims being made.” Additionally, when learning how to perform a task, a video along with text can help support us to understand and a  picture /diagram along with the text can make us better understand. Like Jacobs states, “the use of audio combined with images and video allowed the students to demonstrate their topic rather than simply describe it.” It show the integration of both is found within every discipline and is effective.

The reading gave me a more robust understanding about my discipline because it showed how essential multimodal academic literacies to present an argument. Like in academic writing, the balance between text and visual helps establish a better understanding of what is trying to be conveyed or displayed. The information brought about is easier to comprehend.

This reading helped me better understand our current assignment, the AVA, by showing how effective multimodal academic literacies are when presenting an argument. Her research proves that it is a more operative approach . One of the students states, “ They both take bits and pieces of something bigger and combine them to serve a purpose” and that’s exactly what were doing in this assignment. Lastly, it allows the presenter to deliver their message effectively communicate appropriately in their text and audiences.

Some question that this reading prompts me ask , is whether or not Multimodal literacies can have an negative affect when presenting an argument. So, far I have hear positive benefits of them and I’m curious if there cases or ways that they can adversely ruin an argument.

AVA Progress- Aaron M. Rosemary S. Fabiola A.

What needs to be done is to complete an outline for our pamphlet. Additionally, organize specific details about the design of our poster. We also need to choose which visuals will be effective and choose the ones that best correlates with the information.  The obstacles we’ve encountered is pinpointing specific visuals because we want to balance it with the text. Questions that we have for other groups is, how are you finding a balance between the visuals and the text, as well as what are some examples that you are using to structure the pamphlet? We want to find a structure in the pamphlet and the poster board without overdoing the text, if you have any recommendations please feel free to comment. We would sincerely appreciate the help!

Reading Response Week 12

     The main theme about the reading response for week twelve is how to design an argument, and the modalities that it has. There are various ways to present an argument like scholarly, public scholarship, popular scholarship, The reading also explains how to use visual aids such as animation, and video to convey your argument. Many times I had seen photographic essays, and didn’t identified them as one. And also apart from visual arguments, there are also verbal arguments. The reading content connects to my major because even though personally I like to argument, the ENLA major which is about writing needs to be correctly argumentated in its works. I could include visuals in my argumentations as well. The reading helps me better understand how to put an argument correctly and where. On the last chapter I learned what an argument was, and now I’m learning to correctly apply it. Currently we are working on the AVA project, and the reading concentrates on visual arguments, the section where it speaks about academic posters is useful because we are planning to do a poster, but we didn’t knew how to do it step by step, and the explanation in here is very clear. I will propose the academic poster to my partners. 

     The reading makes me ask questions that include ‘’Do the visuals reinforce what the written text argues?’’ the question made me think about when is it more appropriate to concentrate your argument in the visuals or in the text. About the academic poster I learn that it can be either digital or physical. But from what I remember our proffessor wants it to be printed. I also learned that it can be made on PowerPoint which I was not aware of, I thought we had to use a more uncommon program, this makes me glad because I’m already familiar with PowerPoint.  Also I learned that when this poster is presented we have to stand up, and other people will see it and ask questions. . If my partners want to do this kind of visual argument I will try to be prepared for the questions, and explaining the argument. The reading reminded me that if I am confused with the poster organization I can use sample templates to guide me. Also it was mentioned to not overuse the visuals, and to keep the design simple, eye-catching, and informational. I think that our generation is of visual learners, with technology young people are getting more accostumed to see videos in order to get informed, gifs, and more visuals. Our society has become very visual with the technology advancements, and it is useful to practice visual arguments in class. Actually among my social circle people tend to better understand a new idea if it is presented in a visual, they have a hard time understanding what they read. I’m not trying to say that visual arguments are better. We need to get more educated on understanding what we read, it is very important too. The first GIF that I chose is a poster, even though is not an academic one, it is more of a graphic design poster, I wanted to emphasize on the poster concept. I consider that graphic design at a basic level will be useful for the academic poster too since we have to keep it harmonious. The second GIF I am reallt enjoying watching it, it is from the movie Origin which I really liked, it is a compilation of eyes from different races, I chose it because through the eyes is where we will receive the information of the academic poster no matter our race the same message will be conveyed. And also it is mind-blowing to see how diverse groups of people will receive the argument, and make different questions depending on their backgrounds, and lives.

Fabiola as the chapter suggests, there is multiple ways to present an argument. The best way to choose one of the various type is to see which one will be more effective towards your audience and the information you want to present. It is true to keep  your design simple and appealing. Even though it is a Audio VISUAL argument , we need to balance the amount of text with the visual(s). We cannot overload our audience with a lot of information. Overall, great interpretation of the chapter and response. Good job :)!

Week 12 Reading Response

    Crafting effective arguments through the use of visual representations as well as approaching / constructing different types of arguments is important to writers envision their arguements as well as to what impact they come to create. The choice of arguement is crucial to writers because depending on their methos such as  verbal arguments, academic presentations, elevator speeches, PSA, films and videos just to name a few, their arguement could take different stances. For example, the incorporation of modalities will add onto their arguemnt in a way that’ll aid their audience onto invisioning them. Lastly, the importane of design in an arguement is vital to the impact the writer is aiming to create since ones claim will come to  serve as an aid to either enforce or reduce the message you are trying to bring forth to your audience.In addition, the selectiveness of ones modalities can come to raise debate on a one sided issue which then again comes back to last weeks chapter regarding arguements. 

 Yancys article adressed how literacy and rheoric are modes that go hand in hand in a way that within every type of literacy, theres a form of rhetoric that follows along with it. In addition to Chapter 10, the use of rethoric aids the creation of an arguement by adding perspective onto the claims regardless of the discipline.With Yancys article and chapter 10, the importance of arguements, literacy and rethoric as a crafting method come to enhance how one may apprach an arguemt in the near future. With this in mind, literature comes to be seen as subject that takes upon numerous tasks in every situation one takes part in. For example, literature is not simply siting down and reading, literature carries an abundance of responsibilities and tasks that may not be looked upon unless one takes the time to anaylze, but they are still present.

 Furthermore, this came to add onto my perception on literacy because it just goes onto reinforcing how literature contains more than just a book or stategies. Literacy consists of anything that has to do with language, crafting language, crafting arguements, how and why things should and can be approached in order to create a specific effect and or message. This just comes to amaze me how it may seem as a different section to something else but in fact it is all part of one inmense subject that is misconcepted as “ oh just reading”. Lastly, Yancys article and chapter 10 enhance my knowledge on multiliteracy and literacies by explaining how literacy comes in many forms and modes that in the end are all part of one. 

The first gif shows how the lack of modalities can sometimes make an arguemnt dull as well as not properly designing them. The second gif demonstrates how literacy in itself is all connected and the 3rd gif is like an “ahhh” reaction in my brain.

Jasmine,  it is true that the choice of argument is crucial to frame your stance and present your topic. Design and delivery is a key component when completing an argument , it can either  help explain your purpose/message or ruin it. Week 12- reading response

There is no doubt that formats and modalities are a crucial part when shaping arguments. As writers develop their arguments and structure them, they must also attend to maters of design. It help determine how they will present their information whether it be through an exam paper, letter, articles or an email.  There are ample modalities which primarily fuse writting, visuals, and verbal modes of communication, which offer a large array of possible formats for arguments. It may also depend on your discipline and or context your working with. Take for example, when writing an argument in the form of a letter , one must often distill their ideas in to a brief format. The way you use your format and modalities will determine how effective your presentation will be.

Yancy’s article supplements the content from the chapter greatly by expressing the models of composition. She breaks each key expression to allow us to thoroughly comprehend how she is  tying her previous and future information. For, example she talks about circulation of composition, canon of rhetoric and deicity of technology.  Much like chapter 10, Yancy outlines and exemplifies the different types each section has and how it impacts our argument.

According to Yancy, literacy and rhetoric are often treated like discrete entities when in fact they are interrelated.  The rhetoric can intersect and through that interaction they contribute to new exigencies for inventions, arrangements, representation, and identity. “ or they change what is possible.” They compose and delivery which a critical role.

I definitely find changes in my perception of literacy. It’s not just you basic ability to just read and write, its far much more than that. There are ample ways that literacy is tied through everything. There a lot that goes into writing. We have to choose what best medium and delivery is effective for communication , then we have to  create and share those different communication pieces into a media and audience. Both these reading show to prove that literacy is broad in every aspect.

Yancy and chapter 10 impacted my knowledge of multiliteracies/literacy by providing several examples and going into depth about each. We are all used to understanding the simple meaning with literacy but these readings gave us a full picture that is much more than that. Yancy talked about the transformation of literacy because technology changes and the circulation of composition which I was completely oblivious about. Chapter 10 gave me a full insight about modalities and formats.

Week 11- Reading Response

One of Week 11’s reading, “Chapter 8: Framing arguments”, focused and provided us insight of arguments, its purpose as well as strategies and criteria to develop an effective argument. This chapter addresses and illustrates three common purposes of argument, causal, proposal and definitional argument.  The main idea for this chapter is that arguments are found with in every discipline and helps us pursue lines of inquiring, advance knowledge and makes us process information for the issue you’re presenting. Arguments are used to persuade, communicate, share, interpret, explain, suggest and generate research, conclusions, evidence and policy for future action.

This reading connects to my major because in nursing you must have an argument to propose a solution to a problem. For example, a proposal argument articulates the causes of a problem before they propose a solution. So, with nursing they usually see what’s wrong with a patient and what caused them to receive this illness and from there they offer a solution to it much like the proposal argument. They state the roots and see what methods can help alleviate it.

The reading gave me a more robust understanding about my discipline because it showed how essential arguments are to present an issue. Like in academic writing, the presence of arguments in nursing helps establish advocacy and possible solution to an uprising problem.

This reading helped me better understand our current assignment, the AVA. It provided examples of how to effectively construct an argument. Additionally, it told us what we need to stray away from such as logical fallacies because they ultimately disrupt your overall argument. Overall this chapter just set up the frame of how to present an argument.

A question I thought of while reading this chapter is, can you integrate all three of the common purpose of arguments to just one argument ?  .”

AVA Topic Proposal

Two project preferences:

For the AVA assignment, I would like to either display my issue through a film documentary or research poster. I feel that these two will help project the topic better.

Topic/focus question:

As for the topic, it will remain the same as the lit review, which is the shortage of nurses in the U.S. It’s important to advocate/address this issue because it really effects everybody. Several are oblivious about how it can affect health care distribution and themselves so implementing the awareness will help influence and educate other so they can in some way decrease the shortage and make efforts to eliminated it.   “How can we alleviate the shortage of nurses?”

Purpose:

My audience is U.S citizens because its them who are negatively affected by this shortage. I hope I can exemplify the severity of this issue and open the eyes of others, so they can act and see in what ways they can help and have this issue diminished.  Overall, my purpose is  to influence others to help end the shortage in any way possible.  

Solutions:

Solutions are to make nursing an attractive career so more can join and end the shortage. For example, eliminate the stress, long shifts, have higher pay/ acceptance rates.  They ultimately need to make more people consider this an option by luring them in and convincing them how beneficial it is to join.

Week 8- Reading Response

Week 8’s reading dealt with choosing and integrating evidence in academic writing. The main idea for chapter 11 was to illustrate the importance of having evidence and ways to effectively integrate it in our papers. There is a wide range of evidence which is really beneficial for our discussion, it helps writers generate arguments. The best way to strategically integrate the evidence is to use the MEAL plan. This strategy provides a way of organizing evidence and ensures to keep the evidence focused. (Main Idea, Evidence, Analysis and Link)

This reading connects to my major because in nursing you must have some kind of evidence to help diagnose a patient. Whether it be field notes, interviews with the patient or just actually physical appearance, it helps back up what you’re stating. Evidence in nursing aids us to draw valid conclusions about what going on

The reading gave me a more robust understanding about my discipline because it showed how essential evidence is in nursing and several other disciplines.  Like in academic writing, evidence in nursing helps support a claim were are inferring. It helps shape what we’re trying to state, by giving an example.and making it relate. This ultimately makes  our argument seems more accurate/ valid.  

 This reading helped me better understand our current assignment, The lit review.  Since were composing a detailed paper on our topic, we must include evidence to answer our research topic. It yet again helps us back up our claim.  For example, we must have a primary source in this research. Conducting an interview or survey, serves as example on what we’re stating, its giving us real life experience on our subject. This enables us to integrate evidence and makes us sound more credible while presenting our matter in the paper.

 A question I thought of while reading this chapter is, “Is Textual evidence more credible/reliable than Visual evidence.”  I feel as though people will see a quote or summary more trustworthy than a sketch or photograph. 

All the gifs pertain to each of the little sections. For example, the first  gif depicts a lawyer. Since this chapter addresses evidence and lawyers use ample evidence to present a case I thought it will appropriate to use that.

Week 7 - Reading Response :)

Week 7’s readings dealt with learning about Summary development and the importance of Synthesis. The main idea for Chapter 5 was to illustrate how writers across discipline engage in various forms of summary. It went into depth about the numerous criteria requirements that unfold an effective summary as well as displaying the different occasions for summaries. In Chapter 6, the main idea was to discusses how a summary and synthesis go hand in hand to advance conversation and broaden the writes own perspective. It’s a vial component to make connections between ideas, combine ideas or concepts and ultimately create a fuller understanding of the concept you’re dealing with.

This reading connects to my major because in nursing you must develop and create summaries of your patient’s health records so you can reference back to them if they ever need more care in the future. Additionally, doctors might want me to summarize the patients stay and health problems to get a clear picture on what’s wrong with them. Synthesis relates to nursing because they help us make connections as well as allows us to synthesis their sickness. We are putting parts together of a problem.

The reading gave me a more robust understanding about my discipline because it showed how essential it is to have summaries and be able to synthesis concepts to thoroughly interpret and understand the topic you’re dealing with.  Using both summary and synthesis make the job easier to asses and it thoroughly allows us to remember what going as well as make it clearer to  understand.

Both these reading helped me better understand our current assignment, The lit review. We must summarize for our annotated bibliographies to pinpoint the main ideas so we can elaborate and make sure they are vital sources for this assignment. In addition, we also must synthesis while conducting this paper. it’s important to make connections, so we can produce new ideas, products and entitles.

A question I thought of Is, “does writing multiple summaries about sources you find make you better understand your topic?” and if synthesis is left out in summaries will it still be as effective?

Week 6- Reading Response :)!

Reading is an essential mechanism in our everyday lives, especially if we’re college students. It’s inevitable in all circumstances, and the way we approach our reading truly paves our way on how were going to understand the information presented. When I have a reading assignment, I usually look at the beginning or end of the chapter for important key terms.  This tactic gives me an idea on what sections I need to focus more on and what important components are the in the reading. I can definitely say I’m an “In- depth reader “like mentioned in chapter 4. I don’t speed read, I take my time and try to lock in the information in my mind so I can become knowledgeable on  the information of the chapter.

 There are definitely several obstacles that arise when I’m reading. Often, I tend to over analyzes the text and eventually become confuse with my interpretation.  This leads to me having to reread the text several times, so I can convey the message in the reading correctly. Since I tend the over analyze the text, I take too long to read the readings and get caught on trying to comprehend things that are less important in the chapters. I undeniably over analyze!

Like I mentioned earlier I’m an in-depth reader. This approach, stated in chapter 4, definitely has its benefits. If I come across an unfamiliar word, I need to find its meaning so I can understand why it’s was used in that context.  I definitely take time reading and try to thoroughly analyze , so I can understand what’s being said. Additionally, I usually find important quotes within each section to reference back as mini summaries.  If I have multiple reading, I definitely try to make connections, I compare and contrast the text and evaluate the different and similar perspectives. These strategies have help me identify what I’m reading in RWS 1302.

 This reading helps me obtain reading strategies for the lit review because they tell you ultimately how to obtain the best sources for your research. In chapter four they talk about the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary, materials.  The mentioning of those materials helped me recognize what I may use for references for my lit review as well as thoroughly understand the significant of each. The video talks about using the CRAAP  method which makes it easier for me to pin point what sources I’m going to use. Even though we have Primary, Secondary and Tertiary material, we always have to check each of their currency, relevance, authority,, accuracy and purpose. This method will ultimately help us  obtain better and reliable material for the literature review. We don’t want to have to struggle and question whether were choosing the right sources for this assignment.

W5 Reading Response and Topic Proposal

     The main theme of the reading is Posing Meaningful Questions which means learning how to put in text meaningful questions. The text includes sections where the characteristics, and strategies for writing this questions are explained. The content from the reading connects to my ENLA major because primarily it is about writing, and on a second stance I am person who likes to write about deep issues where learning to pose meaningful questions would be helpful. I have a better understanding of posing meaningful questions because I have read that one should maintain a significance, be specific, and most of them fall into a disciplined area. 

The reading response of this week focuses on the Lit Review, I can assume that for the Lit Review we will be required to generate meaningful questions. The reading prompts me to asky myself questions such as ¨Are you writing a piece intended for scholarly readers only, or is it geared towards a broader public?¨or ¨ Will you be writing for an online or print publication?¨ this is to be able to identify  the medium of publication, and platform where the work will be presented. We have to consider this because when writing the questions the audience, and medium of publication affects how they are more effectively written.  I chose the question mark gif in a dark background because it represents the meaningful questions. For the Lit Review topic proposal I have chosen Strategies For Writing Children´s Books. The second gif is a Dr. Seuss quote that I chose to put becasue it relates to the topic proposal I wrote.

Fabiola, developing questions is going to be an essential component for your major. Hopefully, this assignment will serve as example for future reference when you start writing and continue to go into depth in your ENLA major.  It is true that we have to structure our questions to the  type of audience if we want to be effective while presenting this. Your topic proposal seem like a fun topic to research on. I was given the opportunity to take courses throughout high school that made understand the development on an elementary curriculum, in which I was assigned  to create a children book from scratch. . There a lot that goes into creating these small books , which will be beneficial to learn. I look forward to hear more about your topic. Good Luck !

Des questions significatives

Chapter 3 of Writing in Transit discusses how questions are posed within disciplines. The chapter goes over the type of questions may be asked such as interpretive, quantitative, or fundamental questions about your discipline. These questions are useful in helping you better understand your topic, and become a credible source within your field (e.g. Physicists pose, research, and answer questions about the universe, making them credible individuals in the information they provide.)

This reading connects to my discipline because although I have strong feelings about habitat destruction, I do not know everything about it.  For this reason it is important for me to ask questions on the topic, in order to understand and expand my knowledge of it. 

Since our major assignment is the Lit Review, reading about posing research questions is significant considering we will have to do so ourselves. It was helpful to learn that there are many different types of questions one can ask about their topic. I don’t know about you guys but I find it a bit difficult to come up with questions about something, let alone doing so in order to gain a more vigorous understanding of something I barely understand. But, the reading helped me think and gave me a bit more confidence about coming up with questions. 

Finally, my topic proposal for the Lit Review is Coral Reef Destruction. I previously wrote about deforestation, and in a sense, coral reefs are the sea’s forests.

Kimberly, I completely agree how creating research questions is useful for us to better understand our topic, which will eventually allows us to  become a credible source within our field. They definitely structure how were going to present our research paper. Additionally, it may help us thoroughly understand certain main points within our topic, so we can expand our knowledge. Your topic proposal for the lit review is very interesting. That issue is often undervalued and its beneficial to be informed and  know how to prevent it from being destroyed in the foreseeable future.. Week 5- Reading Response

Week 5’s reading, “Poising Meaningful Questions”, main idea was to illustrate the importance of developing questions while conducting a research.  The chapter addresses how the progress of developing  questions makes it easier to conduct a research. A statement that stood out to me was , “ Asking meaningful questions, pursuing avenues of curiosity, and discovering new areas of inquiry are among the most important and rewarding aspects  of academic writing. “, which basically backs up what the whole chapter reports on.

 This reading connects to my major because in nursing you must develop in-depth questions to ask your patients so you can get an idea what’s wrong with them.  Additionally, question heuristics can be liked to nursing because their specific set of questions designed to explore many facets in a general area or topic.  With the help of a template of general questions, like we need in research, will help nurses to generate the problems their patients have.

 The reading gave me a more robust understanding about my discipline because it showed how essential it is to  have effective questions in both academic writing and my own major. Using questions as a framework enables us to complete tasks easier.  We can have thoroughly translate information and develop a clearer understanding of what we’re working on. It allows us to discover, explore, and learn about ideas from a wide variety of perspectives!

Since we are starting on our new assignment, the Literature review, it helps us understand why we must have solid research questions. Since we’re going to have to create questions for lit review paper, it gives us examples and on how we can develop them so we can ultimately have a strong paper . The questions help structure our paper, they’re undoubtedly essential in this assignment. This reading shows to prove that its inevitable for us not to create question.

A question I thought of Is, “Is it possible just to have one broad question when it comes to academic writing or is it better to develop multiple questions because some of the questions we create, overlap and are basically the same , they’re just worded/structure differently.

  I’ve decided to continue my research on sexism in medicine for the literature review. However, I will be focusing on the female aspect of it. There is, undoubtedly, more issues pertaining to women wanting to enter this rigorous field.  For instance, pay discrimination to lower acceptance rates in med school . Researching the reasons behind these issues is something I’m excited to be more informed on.  There will be several different perspectives which I’m eager to interpret. This is a very interesting topic to further educate myself on and others.

All the gifs I chose pertain to each section above. For example, section 1 and 5 have guys confused or questioning something , since this chapters is  about developing questions. Section 2 gifs, backed up  that I learned something new.

Week 3 Reading Response

This weeks reading from Writing In Transit chapter 7, focuses on analysis. It went deeply into the understanding of what exactly analysis is and how it is used in the writing process and in our everyday lives. The best way i was able to understand the term was that it examines data in a very specific way in order to get a result of what is being analyzed. There are many ways something can be analyzed and many different questions to be asked when analyzing. A quote from this chapter that stood out to me was, “Analysis forms the basis of some of the most engaged debates and disagreements.” If you don’t think we use analysis in our everyday life decisions then think again. The first thing that popped into mind when reading this quote was the Presidential Election that has just occurred. Each American who voted had to analyze each candidate and see who they think would be best for Americas president. This proves how important analysis is because this was a big decision made when casting each vote.

The way that the analysis connects to my major is when diagnosing a patient occurs or when analyzing different diseases to get more information on them. We use analysis to “draw conclusions,” which is very important in the nursing field because you want to know exactly what you are diagnosing your patient with. You want to analyze each symptom the patient has in order to put all the information together and get one conclusion as to what might be wrong with the patient.

The reading is definitely going to help with upcoming assignments in this class because it shows the different types of data the academic writers analyze. These types are Visual, Aural, Tactile, Textual, and Quantitive. These will help with our genre analysis paper because it will give us a better understanding of what genre we choose to write about and what category it falls under.

The first gif i used was of Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton to give my explanation of how we use analysis in our everyday life. It shows both candidates in this election. The second picture i used was a doctor talking to his patient about his diagnosis which is why analysis is important in the nursing field. And the last gif i used represents me typing my genre analysis paper.

Angela, I liked how you were able to connect analysis to the recent presidential elections. It  serves to prove that  the use of analysis is inevitable.  We are constantly analyzing situations even though we might of not been aware.  It’s true how vital analysis is when voting or comparing information. I’m also a nursing major so analysis is going to be a big part of our job. Analysis is everywhere!!!

Une Analyse

Chapter 7 of “Writing in Transit” explains how analysis is used and explained differently among many disciplines and different types of analytic methods used by each. The main purpose of analysis is to better understand a given piece of data, to go deeper into detail than “the naked eye” point of view. These analyses vary between analysts; one person’s perspective of data may be different from another’s.

This image is a perfect representation of perspectives. I personally think the book’s example of many disciplines analyzing the same article is perfect to understand how analysis may differ.

Being that I want to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, this chapter ties in with my career because I will be analyzing data every day! Ranging from an animal’s behavior, to the tests I will be conducting to find out why the poor creature is suffering, analysis will be a big part of my career. 

The reading helps me understand the current assignment for class in the sense of, we’re analyzing genres – hello! We may be using visual analysis and textual analysis for sure! This chapter explains very well what is to be expected from us when we analyze our genres. Be specific in the content of your selected genres in order to explain your analysis of each.

Finally, I chose this video because it was the first thing that popped into my head when I read “analysis.” Peanut(the puppet), is making fun of a business analyst. He believes a business analyst just looks around the building for two seconds and is done analyzing it, when really the analyst goes much deeper into detail in his job, which explains how someone not analyzing a certain topic will not understand the deeper meaning of it.

Kimberly, I love your use of mixed media in this post. I analyzed the first picture for a long time lol. Having different perspectives on a certain article or information presented is crucial  for analyzing data. It may gives us a better understanding and a more thorough interpretation, so we can correctly compare information. I thought analysis can only be applied to literature but I now see how it can connect to our future professions. Your example of Veterinary medicine , made it clear to understand how it may connect.   . This reading also helped me understand our current assignment.

Week 3- Reading Response

The main idea of this reading is the concept of analysis. The chapter addresses several types of analysis as well as discusses the purpose behind each and its role. Additionally, its explore the importance of analysis and informs us why and how it’s used. There are also ample examples given to give us a more thorough understanding behind each.

Like mentioned in the text, analysis occurs around us every day. We were probably oblivious about the presence of analysis in our future professions but now we see several connections to it. Depending on your data set and disciplinary purpose will ultimately determine the type of analysis you might adopt. For example, nursing can use a statistical analysis because it can be applied to practically any data set. Nurses can examine gender alongside primary and secondary cases of an illness or injury. They are able to record and compare the data.

The reading gave me a more robust understanding about my discipline because it showed how essential an analysis is in nursing and several other disciplines/professions.  Its illustrates how analysis makes it more sufficient to understand data, make arguments, and advance our knowledge. There is a purpose behind an analysis, to draw conclusions from the data and identify a relationship between the information we’re obtaining. For instance, nurses are constantly drawing conclusions about their patients  all by doing a complete analysis of a patients’ health. Analysis are extremely crucial and everywhere!

While reading the chapter, I began to realize and understand the significance of an analysis.  The reading gave a strong interpretation that made me comprehend more. The example they presented provided me with a validation on the importance of our current assignment, the genre analysis. We’re comparing two things to better recognize the information were dealing with.

 After the completing the reading I questioned if critical discourse analysis is present in all the different analysis since its solely based on the understanding of communication rather than the transfer of information. There are many different perspectives that made it quite confusing.

The Gifs I used all connect to small sections in the blog. I choose the   Meryl Streep gif   because she looks like she analyzing something and after all this whole chapter is all about analysis. The Simpson gif depicts how I learned something new and the last gif shows how I questioned critical analysis.
