there's something they don't tell you about winning, car keys still jingling in your pocket. you die.

and then you keep living.

joel woke up in his dodge charger. the landscape out his windows wasn't cosmic; it was nostalgic. this was wild life, day one. he could see himself in the distance, chopping trees. he supposed this was what people meant by my life flashed before my eyes.

but joel wasn't alone. grian sat in the passenger seat.

"congratulations on your win," he said after joel's suprised scream.

and as joel spun around, spotting every last victor in his backseat, he realized one very crucial thing. this was his reward for first place: a victory lap in his memories. watching, commenting, and laughing at his life unfold... together.

because the way to heaven isn't levitation; it's a roadtrip, with family. you die. and then—for a car ride, at least—you keep on living.

so joel revved the engine and started driving.
