The day had started out like any other for KV-22. He arrived early so that he could clock in on the very second his shift started; he made small-talk with the woman he would be taking over for during the brief moment that presented itself to them during change-over; he proceeded to sit and stare apathetically at the monitors that he would be watching for the next twelve hours of his life. It was a boring job, but it was his duty to observe the monitors and watch for abnormalities beyond the city walls. It was something he had to do. Otherwise…
Well, let’s just say that the alternatives all ended in retirement–and not the good, Human kind.
Such a mundane fate had persisted for years, which was why it was with no small amount of surprise that he started when a swiftly approaching blip appeared upon the radar–no, make that two blips. Their paths intersected, and one of the blips just up and disappeared, and–and even he, safely within the thick, plated walls of Gate-014, could hear the end of whatever had taken place that mile outside. It had the guards all in a tizzy, stomping around, prepping themselves to go out and face this potential threat to their beloved city.
KV-22 only heard snippets of what some of the guards had seen as they’d observed the scuffle from this-or-that window. Something about a large four-legged animaloid…? Or that’s what it had been assumed to be. More details would follow, of course, after the party to depart returned.
The doors of Gate-014 opened just long enough to allow a trio of battle-ready Reploids to pass through them, out into the wasteland. Two of them had taken to the air, the sun glinting off of their extremely colorful armor; the androgynous pair were clearly stylized after parrots, and by the looks of them, they had been made to work together. They were humanoid, but a great deal bird-like, with beaks and talons and wings. The third was a grounded thing–he looked more like a human-sized rabbit, though he wasn’t at all humanoid–but he was quick enough to keep up with the flighty pair. They had a simple tactic in mind, should this unknown be hostile… But Mavericks didn’t tend to attack other Mavericks just out of the blue, as had been observed. So, a Resistance member, perhaps?
Regardless, what a fight it had been! Though the distance had left the details a bit fuzzy, the flighty duo were eager to better glimpse the supposed animaloid that had done such quick work in attacking down their assailant–a large cat. A tiger, it seemed–real fancy-looking, too… Well-kept, unlike pretty much anything that had survived out in the wastes for any length of time–which was quite suspect and leant credence to the possibility of it being a member of the Resistance. When a little more distance had been crossed, the trio came to a halt; each one looked ready to react should the stranger make any suspicious movements.
It was one of the parrots who spoke;
“You’ve come too close to the city, lass. State your name and business!”
