First grade Lyndsey: Ok, Lauren. You draw hearts like this, or this or this or this. Okay bud? But I'll fix this one one last time. Sophomore in college Lyndsey: God dammit I'll fix it. Not much I can do for this one though, honestly. Like thiiiiis Lauren. Like this. @5thwardlynz #iloveyou

Science, then, is not like the onion in the often used analogy of stripping away layer after layer to get at some core, central, fundamental truth. Rather it’s like the magic well: no matter how many buckets of water you remove, there’s always another one to be had. Or even better, it’s like the widening ripples on the surface of a pond, the ever larger circumference in touch with more and more of what’s outside the circle, the unknown. This growing forefront is where science occurs… It is a mistake to bob around in the circle of facts instead of riding the wave to the great expanse lying outside the circle.
Stuart Firestein, from Ignorance: How It Drives Science
I was reminded of this quote, which sums up the driving force of the scientific process better than just about anything I’ve ever read, today after watching the latest Vlogbrothers video, in which Hank Green channels his inner Socrates:
"I know one thing, that I know nothing."
Watch Hank admit to being a towering mountain of ignorance (something we should all admit) below…

Yesterday, a teacher at my daughter’s preschool told me that she saw two boys and a girl spinning the knobs of a play oven. Boy #1 says: “I’m a pilot! I’m flying a plane.’ Boy #2 says: “Me too!” The girl is quiet, so the teacher says to her: “What about you, are you a pilot?” The 3 year old girl replies: “I can’t be a pilot. I’m a pilot’s wife.” So what do you think has happened in this little girl’s short life to make her believe it’s more likely that she would be a pilot’s wife than a pilot?

The absolute most perfect summer salad :) Want some?
Balsamic Chicken Strawberry Fields Salad
INGREDIENTS:
1 chicken breast 1/4 cup of soycutash (mixture of edamame, corn, and red pepper – you can get this at Trader Joes in the frozen section) 1 TBS of balsamic vinegar 1/2 avocado 2 strawberries 2-3 cups of organic spring greens
DIRECTIONS:
1. Boil the chicken breast until nearly cooked, then chop it up into mini chunks. 2. Sautee the soycutash in a pan over high heat. If you have a nonstick pan, no need to use any oil. 3. Then add in the chicken breast chunks. Pour about 1 TBS of balsamic vinegar and make sure everything gets a piece of the action! Do until corn has some slight browning on it’s surface. 4. Cut strawberries into circles. Cut avocado into slices. 5. Plate by grabbing a few handfuls of spring greens and creating a bed. Then pour your chicken/soycutash mixture on top and decorate with the strawberries and the avocado.
