A fourth sexual assault charge has been filed against Yoochun, and, like the Bill Cosby case, which unfortunately had ten times as many victims, people still believe that Yoochun is innocent. Iâm hearing so many excuses made and itâs making me both sad and angry.
âHe could never do something like this!â - Anyone is capable of doing anything. And this perception of âhe could neverâ is why many rapists walk. Idolsâs images are crafted and implemented way before debut. They LIVE that image for years and many people think itâs real because very few idols ever break that image. As much as we want to believe we know them, we donât know them. We only know what they show us.
âWhy would Yoochun rape someone when millions of girls would consent to sleep with him. He could have any girls he wants!â - Rape is not about being able to attract women. Itâs about power. Itâs about feeling like you are entitled to sex because you feel you are superior to the word ânoâ. And his victims were prostitutes. He may have felt entitled to them because of their profession which is awful.
âTheyâre prostitutes. They could be lying.â - Prostitutes CONSENT to sex with their clients. They do NOT want to be raped. And it is disgusting that people think prostitutes are dirty liars incapable of being raped.
âThey just want his money!â - As far as Iâve seen. NONE of these women have asked for money. They just want justice.
âIâm not taking sides until more information comes out.â - Actually you have taken a side. You have doubted the victim. You are not on her side. If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. Not taking a side does nothing to help these four women. It only makes them look like liars. And according to research only 2% of rape charges of false.
âEveryone makes mistakes.â - RAPE IS NOT A MISTAKE. RAPE IS A CHOICE. Donât insult rape victims like this.
âIf you turn against him you were never a real fan.â - Real fans donât blindly support everything that their idol does. Real fans have their own brains and make their own decisions. Idols are capable of doing wrong. They are not Gods. They are human beings.
âEven if he did it, Iâll still support him.â - A rapist is not someone you want to support. If someone raped your family member or friend. You would not want people to support them.
I understand that fans are devastated. If this was my fave I would be devastated too. But being devastated and continuing to perpetuate rape culture and insult and trigger rape victims are two different things.Â
