Did that come like a lightning out of a blue sky for you? You never had a girl or a woman ever in your life that you felt you wanted to pay you attention or that you looked forward to talk to or that you talked about a lot? Or someone of the same gender you found attractive?

So I found this in my draft folder, god knows how long it’s been languishing there. Since I’d pretty much answered, let’s just post it. The ask referred to my “bisexual epiphany” which I have talked about at length here.

It kinda did. I went through life having many very dear, beloved female friends. with hindsight I now realise that I probably crushed on quite a few of them. But I slept with men, I liked men, and because I was raised a Tomboy I enjoyed the company of men in social gatherings more than I did women. So I just assumed I was a straight woman who was just able to have deep emotional bonds with women. When I realised I was bi, everything clicked into place and I realised how queer I’d always been, really. I’d always fangirled more about women than men, Jodie Foster, Kate Jackson, Martina Navratilova (yes, I’m ancient), Greta Garbo, Dietrich…etc. I did love Bogart, but that was mostly because of Bacall. Ah and Indiana Jones! But yeah, less men overall. Back then I simply thought I craved for a positive female role model like all girls do. I didn’t lust after them. I wanted either to be them or be their best friend. My attachment to women was always purely platonic… until it wasn’t. 

Stella and Reed turned me on, and that was new. It was the linchpin I needed to understand what I was, what I had been all along.
