Hood Canal
I went with my family to Hood Canal this weekend and I could not believe how gorgeous the mountains were! I don't think I've ever been there when they still had snow on them.
Paris!
I edited some of my favourite photos from my trip to Paris last Summer.

I've been practicing my photoshop skills, and here are the end products!

Store Design Competition Results
It makes me so excited to see all the creativity that has gone into the design of every store in the mall! Here are all the designs, with the winner announced at the end.

Keith!
His store is both aesthetically pleasing, functional, and utilizes the space well and creatively. Congratulations, Keith!
Thank you to all the participants for your amazing stores. May your stores make you rich!
Group Photo
The mall has been a busy place lately thanks to the new economy mod and store design competition. Julius finally started designing his store, and half the neighbourhood showed up to watch!

Cooking by the Book
I built this bakery for my store in the mall on the hX.Mines SMP server. While I will sell cake and cookies, I plan to also sell a variety of things.

Origins Mall
In preparation for an economy mod on the hX.mines SMP server, I built a mall right next to the spawn point. There are 16 spaces with the dimensions 9Dx9Wx6H. Since the economy mod was implemented, I've been holding a competition for best store design. The winner will be announced next week and receive 100 Vespene (Vespene is our monetary unit, 1v = 1gold).

Double Waterfall All the Way Across
I recently started playing on another friend's server (crazycraft.org) part of the time, so I picked a spot for a new house. I am very excited! The world has lots of tall, overhanging cliffs. I found two that were close together with waterfalls and lots of pools around them.
I want to put my house right on top of the cliffs, so I built some stairs to make it easier to get up and down.
The wood structure in the pictures is temporary until I get my house built.
I'm going to have a large window and a balcony to take advantage of the awesome view. I plan to plant lots of birch trees in the area because there are none and they are my favourite!
I made my own minecraft skin. I wanted to be a space viking, like Sif from the movie Thor! There are not enough good female skins out there, unless I wanted to be a mermaid, Cleopatra, or Rebecca Black.
Click here for the .png file to upload.
I was trying to think of what I could build to annoy the most people on the server, and the 9/11 mosque and the controversy it stirred came to mind. So I found a giant hill visible from everywhere in the city and I built a giant mosque on it.
These pictures are of my house, which was ever evolving until today, when I discovered a bug in 1.3 where fire can spread through stone, and while trying to re-light the fireplace in my library, burnt my entire house down.

A Beginner's Guide to Lobbying
A few days ago I had the amazing opportunity to lobby with my university at Washington State’s capitol in Olympia. In an effort to decrease an exorbitant deficit, the state must implement crippling budget cuts. Education has experienced the biggest cuts in funding which has resulted in raising tuition prices. These cuts would add up to a “49 percent drop in our state appropriation over a four-year period,” according to President Elson Floyd of Washington State University. Further tuition increases would make education unaffordable for a growing number of young adults.
Going in, many of us were unclear about how to lobby to senators and representatives. But I’ve always believed that sometimes the only way to learn how to do anything is to start doing it. If you want to accomplish anything, you can’t be afraid of embarrassment or failure. And it also helps to plan and do your research. So here is a list of what I’ve learned about how to lobby effectively:
1. If you’re going in a large group, know what you’re doing before you get there, and make sure everyone else knows what they’re doing, also.
2. Pick out specific bills to support, or offer solutions. Don’t just give your general opinion. (Summaries as well as the history of specific bills for WA can be found here.)
3. Try to understand the bigger picture.
4. Know about a specific legislator’s opinions and recent voting activity before meeting. If you don’t know their opinion, ask them.
5. Thank senators who support your agenda.
6. Explain how a measure would affect you, and be genuine.
7. Write letters and e-mails to your senators. Apparently they actually read them, and letters make a huge difference in a senator’s perception of how many people care about an issue (for instance, my senator has received a total of six letters about funding cuts and tuition increases, none of them from my school).
8. Show up more than once (perhaps at the beginning, middle, and end of the bill process, and follow the progress of the bill).
9. Senators often make decisions based on who did or didn’t make the most noise.
So don’t be apathetic. If an issue matters to you, make some noise! You don’t have to be a pro.
My boyfriend bought me Minecraft beta for Chrismas. As an interior designer, building things is right up my alley. Here are a couple of early projects. The first is the Community Centre that my kjærestet and I built near our server's spawn point. The second is a pirate ship that I built about .4 km away. Our server has boomed, with around 20 talented community members and a growing city. More pictures to come!
