Peeves' Provocation || Amycus and Rodolphus
Immediately fed up with trying to dislodge the glitter manually, Rodolphus let out a frustrated grunt and tried to think of a spell Peeves wouldnât have pre-empted. Picking up his school bag from where he had dropped it after heâd been assaulted Rodolphus took out the few text books and scrolls he had been carrying in one of its sections.
âDiscardio glitter,â he muttered as he pointed at the emptied space, resentful that he was about to put at least one portion of his bag out of commission. The spell worked, insofar as all the glitter on Rodolphus had now thrown itself into his bag instead. Tucking his school things beneath one arm, and shrugging the bag onto his opposite shoulder, Rodolphus picked up the conversation with Amycus.
âYou were an absolute terror until at least fifth year,â he commented mildly, the tone indicating a degree of approval that was masquerading poorly as criticism. âDo you remember the occasion that you and your charming sister were practising on that second yearâs cat, and drove it insane? The yowling had the entire Dungeon awake into the small hours; and on a Sunday too.â
Rodolphus paused and made a show of considering his last statement. âOh, Iâm sorry. That was two weeks ago, wasnât it?â
âI didnât fall for any trick,â Rodolphus sniffed, tilting his head up with affront until he realised what he was doing and corrected himself. âThe damn creature was waiting for me. He knew I was studying,â here he gestured at a door behind him, indeed one of the exits from the Restricted Section of the library, âAnd was literally hovering about the door with those damned scarves.â
Amycus watched as Rodolphus packed up the glitter in his bag and scowled. Having the glitter contained was a good thing, but as Rodolphus was a fellow Slytherin, he would be toting that bag down to the dungeons with him. If that bag got left in the wrong hands by chance and the common room ended up covered in glitter, he would not be happy. He supposed that he trusted Rodolphus not to be careless and leave it anywhere, but he didn't trust any of the younger brats to not try to nick it.Â
He smirked, however, at Rod's words. Normally, he would be offended at being called a terror. But at the same time, he was absolutely certain that he was a terror in the good way, not the daft. Amycus made things like yowling, insane cats happen, and terrorized the younger students. He respected his elders, but he wouldn't hesitate to hex any of them either if he felt so inclined. Oh yes. He was a good kind of terror, in his eyes.Â
"Well, we had to perfect the spell somehow, didn't we?" he asked. "And it would be such a pity to waste all that practicing on something as insignificant as, oh say a Hufflepuff. If we're going to be hexing students, we needed to be able to perform the spell correctly." He picked at his finger nail some more, that asinine piece of glitter still trapped right under the nail, close to the quick. "It's not my or my sister's fault that it kept everyone up. You all should know how to use Silencing Charms." He looked up with a smirk.Â
"Actually, I think it's pushing three weeks," he corrected. He could see right through Rod's feeble attempts at hiding his approval, and practically hummed with satisfaction. Not outwardly, of course. That would be disgraceful. He just smiled and played along, acting as if he hadn't figured out what Rod's ruse was.Â
Amycus had turned his head to look skeptically at the library door before looking over at Rodolphus again, his face still questioning. He thought about contradicting Rodolphus and point out that it still sounded very much like he'd fallen for a trick, but instead, Amycus just smirked. "Peeves is more clever than I ever gave him credit for then," he said, voice light. "Though, it still seems like a trick, if he was waiting for you. I wonder what you did to have spurred him to prank you...," Amycus let his thought trail off. "Are you going to exact any revenge?"Â
