Sublime Cruelty | Alexander and Amycus
Amycus listened to Alexander’s request, and at first, he was a bit confused because why on earth would Alexander think to come to him for tutoring? Amycus rarely attended the jokes that were classes. He wouldn’t be the first one to go to when you wanted to learn school-appropriate material. But that’s when it dawned on him. Alexander didn’t want any stupid school appropriate nonsense. Amycus couldn’t stop the nasty smirk that took over his face, and he didn’t want to.
“Why Alexander, are you requesting what I think you are?” he asked, though he already knew the answer. “I’m flattered.” And he was. Amycus prided himself on what he did and what he knew; the fact that Alexander came to him over some other Slytherin said a lot about Amycus’s reputation, which is something Amycus enjoyed. “Though,” he said, pausing. He looked around, making sure there wasn’t anyone unsavory about - well, apart from the still disgustingly happy Gryffindors, but they were harmless. “I have to make sure you’re not asking me for your own benefit, other than just learning. You’re not going to be a bitch and get me in any kind of trouble, are you?” He narrowed his eyes and gave Alexander a piercing look.
It wasn’t so much that Amycus thought that Alexander would turn on him, really. He’d known the other boy for too long to think something so low of Alexander. That being said, there was never a guarantee that you could trust someone completely. That was a lesson Amycus had learned a long time ago. He wasn’t so dumb as to fall into a trap of sorts. And he wasn’t going to let his knowledge of the dark arts be taken advantage of, either. Amycus had to learn the hard way, and he’d make Alexander do the same if he had to. “Just a bit of self preservation, you understand.”
Alexander felt a lot more self-assured when Amycus's grin appeared. The glance over to the Gryffindors confirmed his suspicions. His confidence spilled over and Alex was sure that he would have his way. It seemed that complimenting people for personal gain was an inherited trait of his. "Me? Of course not," he replied with only a partly-serious stare. "I want to be powerful, but not until school's out of the way. I can promise that no trouble will come of this for at least one year." Alexander just couldn't restrain his sarcasm sometimes. But there was at least some trust between the two and Amycus would be able to deduce his sincerity.
"I understand completely Amycus, I realise I am asking a lot of you, you are very gracious to do this for me." Falling back to flattery, Alexander's mind began to wander to how he might be after he was tutored. He could finally pro- no, that was a small goal now, insignificant. It was true what he had said about waiting until graduation: despite his outward attitude he didn't want to disgrace himself by being unable to complete his education. Besides, he had some talent in a fair few of his lessons and he felt it to be a shame to waste that.
There was a lot of mystery behind Amycus' plans too. Judging by his reputation, he was set to join with more powerful wizards and witches than most thought existed. Still, he had never known what exactly he had arranged for when he left Hogwarts. Perhaps it would come up during their time together but Alex dared not ask him outwardly. From what he knew of Alecto (and he assumed the two were very similar in this way), it was not wise to ask the Carrows personal questions unless you valued your life lowly.
