Another reason to dress up.

People tell me all the time that they are afraid to dress in lolita because of how other people will take it. They are afraid of being bullied or alienated. But what if it makes a positive impact? 

My maternal grandmother has late stage Alzheimer’s. Above is my grandfather. He has been her primary care giver for the last ten years. This past January, her condition became so bad that he could no longer do it alone and had to put her into full time care. (This photo is from when I went up to visit just after he had put her into care) He spends a lot of his days alone, sorting threw the house he has lived in with her for the last 50 years as he prepares to sell it. 

It’s hard because I feel like I can’t help, I live over 2,000 miles away in another country. I try to visit when I can (I’m going again in June) and I keep up with him online. Every time we talk, he tells me how entertaining it is to see all of my adventures in lolita. It makes him laugh. It gives us something positive to talk about when it seems like everyday he has more bad news.

Don’t be afraid to dress up. Do it to make yourself happy. You never know, it may inspire or bring joy to someone else.
