Mark Morrisroe: Untitled (View from Jersey City Apartment), 1986. I'm posting this pic for World AIDS Day - it's by the late, great photographer Mark Morrisroe, whose work is currently up as part of the Whitney Museum's portraiture show. I happened to walk by one of his photographs and noticed on the wall text that he died in JC - something I never realized before. I told my friend, Jersey Journal reporter Terrence MacDonald about this, and now he's writing an article for our paper on MM and his time in JC. Terrence has done some really exciting research (even finding the address where this pic was taken!) and gotten to talk to a lot of his friends and colleagues. The article will be out soon, but I'm just so happy that our local paper will have something about MM's work. Morrisroe, as you may know, died at 30 of AIDS. By all accounts, he was a true original and brilliant weirdo. Like many of us, he just sort of wound up in JC en route to NYC, but this was his home all the same. Definitely thinking of him and his influence on this day. #art #worldaidsday #photography #jerseycity #history #queer #gay (at City of Jersey City)
