Is it possible to swoon and giggle at the same time?

I am catching up on Chicago Typewriter and I am so so so so in love. It has this gorgeous dreamlike, indie vibe and characters you can love that are also complicated and not always likable and a great concept.

How I ship this! They have lovely chemistry but I mainly ship them because I love them so much individually.

Se Joo is a difficult person in many ways - arrogant, bitter, emotionally closed off. He is also a perfectionist who has overcome a past full of abandonment and betrayal to become successful and pour his dysfunction into narrative drive and creative outlet instead of stewing in bitterness or taking an even darker past. He is also uncompromisingly his own man - he has this integrity that is basically rock-solid and bone-deep. The conference he did at the end of ep 5 announcing he has a ghost writer - wow. For someone who put so much of himself into his identity as a writer, who basically not just makes a living but controls his demons this way, to publicly put it all out there - I am so impressed.

And Seol has had a differently unpleasant life - her past life is literally interfering with her ability to live this one. She’s had to give up career dream after career dream. And yet she’s still capable of caring and friendship and love. And despite her initial fangirling, there is a deep thread of practicality and self-respect in her - she will not let Se Joo run over her or act out his neuroses on her.

And together - he seems to begin to need her to fit into his world and she enjoys being with him. He’s notoriously reclusive but he opens up to her. And she can deal with some of her phobias with him. And ultimately, he is capable of admitting when he is wrong and feeling and showing gratitude.

Basically, they are two messed up, flawed, complicated, intelligent people who should be together because they become their best selves with each other.

About Seo Hwi Young

He is a writer, a former medical student and also skilled with guns. He was, along with Yoo Jin Oh, part of the Heroic Corps that fought for independence from the Japanese Colonial rule undercover.

He is so young yet so talented and skilled. I wonder what is his identity? I mean how did he came to learn so many things? Yep. He is the only son of a pharmacist, came from a family of pharmacists and doctors, which happens to be a rich family too. But they cut ties with him just because he quit school and wanted to become a writer instead. Because he was a half-trained doctor and an unestablished writer.
