As soon as he heard the roar, Anakin knew to look up. He’d heard it far too many times to know that is wasn’t anywhere near good. In fact, he decidedly convinced himself that he should find it’s source and help whoever or whatever was dealing with the issue.

Just a ways outside of the town he’d been staying at, Anakin finally came across a ship that had just landed. It didn’t look pretty, but it could definitely be worse. As he approached, he noticed that the pilot was already out and inspecting the damage. “Does that happen to you often?” he asked, approaching the stranger.

“I’ll have you know that I had just turned nine,” he said, raising his eyebrow at her as he teased her. Anakin always enjoyed this kind of banter. “But besides, how else do you expect a slave to see a queen?” he smiled as he questioned her.

While Anakin had heard many things over the past twenty years about Jakku, he had never been. Having always been so busy around the rest of the galaxy, or especially on Coruscant, his grandchildren had always come to see him there. Now that he had passed along some of his more pressing responsibilities to the younger members of the Council, he had decided to come surprise his granddaughter for a change. If only there wasn’t so much sand...

Upon finally finding the house that she and Luke had always described, he was greeted by an unfamiliar voice just before knocking. “Oh, hello,” he smiled as he turned around to see a girl, close to Rey’s age, probably a friend. “I’m looking for Rey, Rey Skywalker,” he told her as his soft blue eyes gazed over her.

It certainly wasn’t his first time being ordered to escort a high valued target, but it was his first time escorting one of such value to the empire. Mostly it was a few directors and others that were sent out with their name being known to the Alliance. Though the directors never were escorted into a combat zone, this wasn’t a director though.

Havok was the only droid assigned to be the leader of a unit of Deathtroopers, and might have been the only one assigned to even have the skill to be a Deathtrooper. Each one of them were set around a locked door to the entrance of the Rebel ship. The Droid had explosive charges set on the side for breaching. Looking at the tall, menacingly dark figure further in the hall, he talked over his shared comms with Darth Vader. “Explosives are planted. We’re ready for the breach whenever you’re ready, Lord Vader.”

As soon as they had locked onto the target, Vader had informed them that he would be boarding this one. He sensed the Force, perhaps in a youngling, but the Force nonetheless. The idea of even the Rebels allowing a youngling on board seemed absurd, but Vader was not about to accept the alternative: that there would be others old enough to not only consult the Force but to use it. 

As he approached the ship, he nodded at Havok and stopped in his tracks. “Good. I’m certain they have intel that could help us locate their next base,” he replied, looking around as he surveyed the bomb placement, simply nodding in approval.

Anakin shook his head and he poured her another glass of water. “You’re not fine. Besides, I can get someone else to do the few things that may be more important,” he told her with a smile, trying to cheer her up. “Come on, Snips. I need you better so you can be out there with me.”

“Well yeah. I need lightsaber training and force manipulation,” she replied. Because contrary to Anakin’s opinion he was not the leading expert in those studies. “But you’re the one who said I learn more in the field than I ever will in class. And you didn’t have to take all these classes.”

“I didn’t take them because I started training too late in life,” he retorted, again. Anakin shook his head. “And yeah, but you’ll be even more confused if you try it without studying it first,” he told her with a wide-eyed look. The answers should have been more obvious to her, then again, he was sure that he would have done the same thing in her shoes.

“I wasn’t suggesting it, sir. I don’t know what means to relax. I cannot relax, I am responsable of a lot of deaths and I need to improve.” He studied the General with attention. “Why do you want to take me out? I think Rex is waiting you somewhere.”

Anakin just shook his head as he sighed. “Let me teach you,” he finally said with a grin. “He is. You’re gonna join us,” he told him before quickly adding. “And that’s an order.” Naturally, he was teasing about the severity, but he was very determined to see Cody loosen up.

Rey had been practicing her meditation, she’d been told to sit in this spot and stay there until Luke had come back from collecting fresh water. So she had done just that and sat meditating and trying to figure out what Luke wanted to achieve from this. It wasn’t until she heard a voice behind her that she opened her eyes and turned to see….a ghost. “Am I going crazy or are you a ghost?” 

A smile was inevitable as he watched the young girl relax. “Of course, I’m a ghost. What else were you expecting to happen?” he asked her as calmly as he could. He could sense this was her first time, but he had at least assumed that she was trying to reach him, or at least another jedi.

      Glancing sideways at Obi-Wan, remembering his former Master’s restrained but heartfelt praise of that mission, he felt a twinge of guilt. 

       I wish I could tell him about Padme. The Jedi are wrong. Love doesn’t weaken us. It makes us stronger. I wish Padme and I could show him that. He’s very alone.

“Exempting is very different from postponing,” he told his as he swung his head around to look in her direction. “You can’t just skip all of your classes, you know,” he answered with a small chuckle.
