▬* stakeout, loiterout | kano & momoi
Fieldwork such as stakeouts and spying were the specialty of the covert ops division at Caeruleus. Though that meant nothing in the face of individual ability among its members. Juniors and seniors alike in the division were skilled in some way of covert operations — getting work done without being caught. Sometimes that required stealth, sometimes lying, sometimes going undercover, sometimes hacking, and even a few instances where robotics or killing involved.
But Kano got bored when he had nothing to do. No matter how good he was at remaining casual and keeping prying eyes from suspecting him, he hated being in one place for a long period of time.
Listening to Momoi ramble on about the menial problems in her life was only barely taking the edge off of his boredom. Sometimes the words went in one ear and out the other when Kano happened to be thinking about other things, but usually he was alert, smiling, and nodding along. Momoi, however, seemed to become privvy to his occasional daydreaming and he started a little when she said his name.
"Yes, Momoi-chan!" he responded in a chipper tone. Kano was unphased by the pinkette’s stony stare and laughed lightly when she seemed to deflate. Momoi was always the positive type and had some energy to boot. He was bored, but Kano wasn’t sure that anyone else would have better to be in a stakeout with than Momoi.
"Maybe…" Kano mused under his breath. He, too, gazed around the lounge, elbow perched on the back of the booth and a knee drawn up onto the seat next to him. "It’s pretty dull around here. You’d think there’d be more interesting folks, considering how rough-and-tough Roseus can be sometimes…"
Snickering, the blond turned, dropped his foot back to the ground, and leaned on the table in front of him. “It’d be bad to stay all night, Momoi-chan! We might get found out! Maybe we should book a room or something, hmm… It’d be dangerous to stay out in the open like this when nothing’s happening.”
Satsuki stiffened visibly at the blonde's comment about the nature of Roseus members. "Don't jinx it!" she hissed sharply under her breath. Her eyes darted across the room briefly, as if making sure nobody had overheard snippets of their conversation. "Imagine the scene if the Reds found out we're camping out on their turf," she whispered, cupping a hand around her mouth. Sure, it had been a slow day and things were getting a little boring--but she wasn't desperate enough to be hoping for a bloody showdown anytime soon. Satisfied that nobody around had heard their exchange or held them in suspicion, the analyst let herself relax into the plush seat.
Eyeing the empty cups sitting cold between the two of them, Satsuki reached for the menu at the end of their table. Surely the waitstaff would catch on to something curious if they simply loitered about the lounge any longer. "Well, it's past lunch time, do you want anything to eat?" Her pink eyes peered at the younger boy over the top of the menu in her hands. "My treat," she added with a smile. It'd be nice to have younger siblings, she mused silently as she slid the menu over to Kano. Things like taking your little brother or sister out to lunch, checking up on them when they're ill, fighting over the last egg roll at dinner--not to say these activities were absent from her childhood, she just couldn't help but wonder if it'd have been different with family.
Back to the task at hand. She placed her fingers on her chin, contemplating the suggestion. "We'll try and contact HQ if nothing happens for another hour or two."
Her eyes were distant, seeing a scene in the near future that had yet to unfold, analyzing a scenario that she had formulated based on her current information. "We might have better luck in the bar once the sun sets, but..." Words trailing off, her eyes slowly came to fix on the visibly youthful face of the blonde boy smiling before her. There was no way he could pass for twenty-one. Not that she would encourage a minor to sneak around a bar anyway. Letting out a deep breath, she closed her eyes and passed a few seconds in silence. "We should ask to have a few other stationed at some of the Reds' usual haunts just in case." She didn't want to admit that her intuition had been off the mark, but wounded pride was better as collateral damage than wounded family members.
Within moments her former smile returned to her face and she picked up her own menu. "But let's think about filling our stomachs before all that," Satsuki suggested with a light laugh. "I heard they serve some really good panini."
