"It has made me better, loving you.â

at least you still have davey, he can be your son. then marry jackson, throw a cat in the mix, big happy family.
âCan you just go die in a hole and leave me alone, please?âÂ
did you adopt your two kids you have later?
(jackson and ana were heavily invested in the magic surrounding infertility and treatments for it and eventually found a way to have kids together.)
can you not have kids anymore?
â..No.âÂ
The fact that Jackson wanted to cast a silencing shield over them, instead of let things be real for a second spoke volumes about them. People say being born with a silver spoon makes your life simple and easy, yet no one speaks about the select few were were born common and forced to swallow that spoon. For Jackson his life was filled with the to-dos and the have nots in life. Do you homework, listen to your father, do your chores, never use your steak fork for your first course, and so on. Though being raised in a life where every step you take, hell down to every breath, was predetermined for you. It was like where youâd go to school, who youâd be friends with, who you should marryâbut never how to deal with it all. They never told him how to be a good husband, nor did they prepare him for this life. It was like his parents build this foreign home for him and when the left forgot to give him the keys to the place.Â
âOh for fuck sake, not now.â he peeled himself from her, turning his back for a moment while her words were being pelted at him. This wasnât expected but it was needed. Because it wasnât natural to be like this, to let time and space become the fatly screw that bound their marriage together. âDonât you fucking dare flip this on me!â her venom sunk in, causing him to reactâwhich was exactly what she wanted. âI tried or do you not remember that? I was there when you were in the Magi. I stood there when you were off seeking your strength or some bullshit. I was the one watching you go offâŠ.but no. Iâm the arse in this.â It felt good to let that go âI stayed in that house that you so lovingly own but donât pay anything for. I stayed for as long as I could, but because of this FUCKING shit. I left.â his fist clenched in front of him as they flailed everywhere but where he wanted, which was somewhere between her or the wall. âYou think I hold all this shit against you, but I donâtâŠ. I could have left. Any time but I havenât so stop trying to find anyway to make me do it.â The veins in his neck rose the more he spoke, as if his anger was coursing through his blood. âFUCK, damn-it Ana I didnât need this today. We donât need this.âÂ
Oh she could see the shame spark in his eyes and that made the blondeâs lips curl into a sarcastic smile. He was ashamed of her, ashamed of them, and it was obvious not in the way he stood now but by the months that went by with him hiding off in some faraway country rather than stand at her side. And she was ashamed too, not of him, but of herself. Of her inability to make him stay, to persuade him that she was someone worth sticking around for. She would walk among her peers and they would whisper of Jackson, smirk behind their hands as speculation grew. He was having an affair, they said, he must have fallen in love with some American girl and this was how the couple had chosen to live with that. Why else would Anastasia live alone in that big old house on the way? Why else would she never have the growth of a baby showing on her stomach?Â
âThen when?â She didnât shout, her voice was deadly quiet which in some ways showed her anger more than her screaming ever could. âShould I write to you whilst youâre away? Is the only way youâll ever choose to talk to me when thereâs miles between us so you donât even have to look at me and be disappointed by what youâve been left with?â She had stood with the Magi until the day she had died on that hospital bed, the day she lost whatever small reason she had to live for. There was no use for her in the war anymore, and no-one came after her when she didnât fight. No-one except for Jacksonâs old best friend, her demon; Micah. âJust because you seem to enjoy being a martyr in all this doesnât mean I have to watch you hurt yourself by staying with me.â Anastasia responded curtly, and as his voice grew louder hers went quiet, steadying herself on his anger. This, at least, was something she knew how to do. âYou didnât stay. You might be married to me but you donât stay with me. We might as well be two strangers by how often we talk. Tell me why, Jackson?â And suddenly she was pushing against his chest, shouting in his face, needing him to shout back. âWhy was I never good enough? Why do you fuck off every year to America and leave me behind? Admit it! Admit itâs because you wish I had died when that wretched bitch came after me, rather than leave you with a wife who could never give you a family!âÂ

âDonât mind me, Iâm walking right past.â
âClassy as ever.âÂ
âItâs a shame, because you look wonderful, but I donât know your name.â
âAnastasia Selwyn, and.. do correct me if Iâm mistaken.. but youâre Mr St. Clair, are you not? Iâve read about you in the papers.âÂ
Just for a moment her composure slipped and James was reassured that she was still in there somewhere. She was alive and breathing, and despite it all, she was still the Ana he fell in love with. âProbably keeping her eye on Alfie,â he admitted, a faint smile curving up on his lips at the merely thought, though it soon faded as her words drew on and his annoyance grew. âShe isnât alone, sheâs surrounded by people who love her and though she might be wondering, she isnât worrying because most functional relationships have this thing called trust, if youâve ever heard of it.â
Alfie.. so that put a name to Jamesâ happiness, the one she couldnât give him, the one he had found without her anyway. Anastasia smiled at the thought, although her eyes seemed unfocused, still lost to her own mind. Hold a conversation with this woman for more than five minutes at a time and youâll see that sheâs not altogether there. Her eyes turn cold and snap back out of their reverie to meet Jamesâ, her head tilting to the side. âIâm not sure what youâre trying to insinuate. Iâm married too, you know. Jackson and I have been faithful for fifteen years to only each other. I was merely enquiring because I wasnât so sure that you were supposed to be talking to me. Your wife probably wouldnât like that. I know my husband certainly wonât when word gets back to him.âÂ

Micahâs eyes fluttered shut, knowing every inch of her body like the back of his hand. Sheâd been his toy for all these years, his favourite that he could never find himself throwing out no matter how hard people urged him to. Itâs because she had such a bite. âIâm not going anywhere. Ever.â Micah smirked, his lips leaving her a trail of marks she was sure to hate. âUgh. I love your murderous dirty talking so much, babe.â
The marks were the last straw. Of course he had done it before, but not here, not like this, not where everyone could see. âJackson.â Anastasia stuttered out, knowing she couldnât let her husband know what went on when he left her alone. She shoved his head away, kneeing him in the groin. âGood, then youâll absolutely adore it when I drive a fucking dagger through your chest.â The woman spat, pushing the other away with all her strength. âHelp!â She shouted towards the door. âJackson!âÂ
âMaybe I ought to forbid you the chance to talk then, huh?â Micah said in a low tone, his wand coming the edge of his fingers and crawling up her leg. âAnastasia, tell me, do you truly mind this? Tell me that no part of you wants me and mean it. Look back at everything Iâve done for you, how much Iâve given you and how plain your life is without. Tell me you want me gone and mean it.â he hissed, biting down on her neck and sucking hard. âNo. No you wonât.â
The woman just shook her head frantically at his touch, feeling his fingertips burn against her skin. He spoke like she should be grateful to him, and in a sick sort of way she was. Having the Devil by your side during lonely nights is better than having nobody at all, and Micah knew this from the one or two times he had managed to coax the truth from her. âI want you gone.â She gasped out, biting down hard on her lip as she felt his teeth make their bruises. âPlease.â By now the woman knew it was no use to beg, but she did so anyway. Out of habit, she supposed. âIâll dance on your grave. Iâll light your corpse on fire. Iâll kill you, Iâll kill you.âÂ
âDidnât I tell you to shut up?â Micah rolled his eyes, his teeth biting down to her neck, feeling an odd jump in his body as she spoke about Skoll. In all honesty, he didnât even know Skoll was here. âNo.â He growled, his fingers digging into her sides so hard he was sure there would be bruises. âStop thinking you have any control over this situation. If you somehow thought you were done with this after school ended, you were so wrong, darling. I made you a promise to make your life a living hell, and I will keep it till the day I die.â
âYou should know by now that not even you can shut me up.â Anastasia hissed. She could feel her pulse jump erratically where his teeth bit into her neck, and she let out a low moan of pain at his touch. There would be bruises, and there would be no-one to see them except for her and him. âGet your filthy hands off me.â Torture was one thing, but this? This was far worse. There was still a small part of her that ached for his touch, even after all this time, after everything, and she loathed herself for it. âIâll kill you for what youâve done.â She promised him, although she knew she wouldnât. She wouldnât be able to do that to Jackson on top of everything else. âIâll kill you.âÂ
âYou should be grateful, doesnât mean you will be.â Micah mumbled, his lips brushing against her neck, hands falling to her waist. Over the years, he chose a few beds he liked and came and went as he so pleased, Anastasia had always been a favourite of his and that meant he hooked himself onto her and decided nothing was enough. âI canât help myself, Ana.. I need you.â
âExcuse me for not being grateful to the man who tortures me almost daily for his own sick pleasures.â Anastasia remarked, almost sweetly. Her hands reached up to his chest, trying to force him away, even though it was obvious he was far stronger than she ever would be. âThere are others here you can use.â She breathed out, scared of making too much noise, scared someone would come in and see her for the weak person she was. âThat Hufflepuff... the dog... Can I not be rid of you for just one day? Control yourself, you filth.âÂ
âIâm never done torturing you, my darling. I lost enough, I canât afford to lose you too.â Micah grinned, pressing his body against her in a very sexual manner. âOh, shut up, Anastasia.â
âWell then I suppose I should be grateful for that.â Anastasia remarked shakily. âAt least it means you wonât be killing me anytime soon.â It was some cruel, hideous joke that Anastasia was faithful to Jackson, and that because he was in another country more often and not that meant her bed was empty every night. Except, of course, when Micah chose to occupy it. The woman pressed back against the wall, her body trembling, hands clawing at the stone to try and pull herself away. âNot here. Please.. not here.âÂ
