Resources - Hair Brushes - Personal Favorites

I got a couple of questions regarding the resources I use to draw and re-touch hair. This is NOT a tutorial in any way, but I did include a simple representation of how I would normally draw a hair strand. Just a quick sketch, though, and mainly in one color, so it kind of looks “flat”.

First of all, I use Intuos Wacom Pen Small tablet, I checked the official website, but I couldn’t find the exact same product (probably because I bought mine two years ago). But I am sure I bought the most basic one and it cost me 68€.

I edit all of my pictures on Photoshop CC 2014 and I would occasionally go to PaintTool SAI (can’t remember the last time I used it, though). I don’t use ReShade at all.

Hair Brushes:

Pack One (Hair Brush Set at DeviantArt) - for best results, use with a pen-pressure tablet. I love these because they do not produce too “sketchy” lines, in fact, if used on relatively small size they result in very neat and clean lines (─‿‿─)♡ This set is also available for GIMP (:

Pack Two (Very Hairy Brushes at DeviantArt) - these are premade hair-strand brushes, therefore, they are mouse friendly. I personally layer them on top of my already drawn hair strands to give that “very hairy” look. Brushes come in various shapes so you just need to determine which one works best with a particular part of a hair strand in question. You will definitely need to use a Transform Tool (CTRL+T) to rotate or bend that bad boy brush to fit in with the bigger picture.

Also, do not forget that playing around with different sizes and opacity/flow settings is the way to go!
