So many attacks all at once

primrose: works as a researcher at yale, fluent in ancient greek, working to decipher various old manuscripts, majored in anthropology

ORCHIDDD!!!! and ROSEE!!!! literally are calling out to my core and are what i want to grow up to be
I highly encourage youths who are trying to figure themselves out to NOT base their identity on static or performance based traits. Traits like “I’m smart” or “I’m funny” can be crushing to have when you either fail a test or tell a joke no one laughs at. It makes it so it’s not just a bad joke or bad test– it’s a failure of self.
I suggest instead that you try defining yourself by the things you do and enjoy. Such as “I like knitting,” and “I like reading.” These are traits you have within your control and it’s less devastating if you get “wrong.” Making a lumpy hat doesn’t mean you like knitting any less!
Define yourself by your ongoing actions, not your temporary reflection.
The biggest mistake you can do is undercut your own ability, straight from its source. You are your number one fan. You are the one person who should always one hundred percent believe in you most. If you can achieve that level of self-belief, self-confidence, self-attunement, then you will pass like a breeze through obstacles, ready to dust yourself off and try again; because the only limitations that have ever mattered or will ever matter are your own - and if you impose none on yourself, the universe is infinite.
*me shoving this into everyone’s brain in a lovingly aggressive manner*
I decided to create a masterpost that would help you with what you are struggling with. Hopefully any of the links below will help you! Reminder; You’re going to be okay. What you are going through will pass, just remember to breathe.

ppl don’t understand adhd/autistic cleaning processes. we think so far ahead it’s like,,, impossible to do shit. you want me to vaccuum my bedroom floor? okay. we need to pick up all the stuff thats on it first, though. and where are we going to put the stuff? well, theres a couple categories of Stuff- Clothes, Random Items, and Trash. Trash is easy, we just throw it away. Clothes have to be sorted into Clean, Not Clean- and then the not clean ones have to go in the laundry bag, but theres so many so i might have to start a load now- ugh, distracted. lets go back to the clean clothes. well, these go in my drawer but- my drawer is really disorganized, so i’ll have to organize the clothes first so that theyll fit and look neat. by the time i’m done with that, i’ve spent an hour and a half trying to do stuff in my room. i finally turn to random items, most of which can find a home on my desk, but others i dont really know what to do with. plus, my desk is dirty. so i have to organize my desk, figure out where everything goes, and the stuff that doesn’t have a place can go in… a box, i guess. (not like i don’t have three other boxes full of random stuff in my closet) so i put all the items back up but now i have this box full of stuff i dont know if i need so i have to go through it, sorting it into donate and dont donate piles. i might as well throw in some clothes to, so i dig through my clothes drawer and get the clothes i dont want, throw them in there too. okay, back to the random items- the ones i dont want to donate are still here, so i have to put them somewhere. i dont have anywhere to put them- maybe i should get a shelf? i start googling shelves, figuring out which ones would be best for my room, debating prices, learning about installation, and eventually im like ‘well, already on my computer’ and i decide im going to ‘check’ social media and end up lost in it for an hour or so. you walk back in, and theres stuff all over the floor, albeit in bags and boxes, and it still hasnt been vacuumed. its been five hours since i started. how does it take five hours to clean your room? it just does.
I developed a cleaning system for my very very disabled brother when we were little that I’ve since found many relevant researches for how this kind of split and sorting of tasks works best for people with executive function problems, like ADHD and depression and even just general procrastinators full of anxiety.
Steps to clean a room. 1) remove dishes and food and NOTHING ELSE from the room you are cleaning. Put them in the sink or dishwasher. Always do rot first for illness/safety reasons (you may not be that gross but hey, if you forget it might get foul.)
2) get a garbage bag/can and go through the room. Anything garbage, chuck, anything else that is out of place (not where it belongs) put in a pile in the center of the room or area.
3) Clean with cleaners/machines any foul or safety tasks. Wet puddles. Mildew. A stick ring from a soda can. A buildup of visible dust (allergens) under something.
4) sort the pile of stuff into where it goes (bathroom, laundry, kitchen, bedroom, etc) and then take all of the stuff for one room in one trip.
5) and last or holistic cleaning left over (vacuuming, mopping, surface disinfecting etc.)
tada! The most important thing about this is that it sets a priority order to tasks, namely anything that if you forget for a while could damage your health a surroundings (a bowl of food) over something clutter but safe (your notebooks or laundry). So if depresso you almost never manages to get past step 2 but once a month, yes, your house is cluttered, but it’s not actively harming you. And when you can get things done, it helps focus tasks and combine them so it doesn’t take ten years because you make a separate trip + distractions for every single pen you find in your home. If ADHD brain doesn’t remember what you were doing, that’s fine, it’s visually obvious when you come back to it, very easy to pick up where you left off.
Good luck, brain wranglers!
just a psa, this is actually genius
this hit way too home :c
little bookstores like this make my day.
