Life Drawings 2023
Here are some life drawings from in class and some done in my own time
Blockout
Diorama Research and Development
Bottle/carton house
I quite like the idea of turning a mundane bottle/can or box into a house/building
By looking at these references I particularly like the juice box, Yakult bottle and the one on the end. They all have simple designs yet much is going on in the picture.
I quite like these stylised wood textures, however it would be nicer if there were less fibers and cracks in the wood - maybe it would be better to go for wood that looks worn down(?)
The shape of the ginkgo leaves are quite interesting I am going to use their shape and colour in my piece.
Personally, I want to go for more softer looking shapes and textures - the Ghibli style does match this so I shall glean inspiration from their style.
Out of these designs I like the pharmacy building. It has a ginkgo leaves growing out of a cough syrup bottle and it feels like a more compact and cohesive design. The viewers eyes can travel down from the leaves to windows and down to the door
Another favorite was the tower of cans, the viewers eyes can easily travel down the building, taking in all the smaller assets. The wishing tree was a nice touch to this - so I shall add that element into the pharmacy building.
Here are some coloured concepts. The autumn themed one has quite a nice colour palette, however to make it a more lively diorama I am going to go for the first design.
The purple pharmacy was an experiment using filters to see other colour variations - I do like the theme but as I am not going for a fantasy theme this idea will be ditched

PBR Materials
The woodburning done on the shields was quite interesting so I will do something of the sort onto the shield, likewise painting the shield does seem like a nice touch - I shall try to add that to too.
I preferred the green and yellow colour scheme, it makes nice earthy tones.
Instead of just wood burning, we'll assume a fresh coat of varnish has also been applied to the indents and it gives the reddish hue seen in the pattern.
Hand Painting
Hand painted texture of a model sword that was provided and an earring that I designed.
I quite liked the gradient that is present on all the blades and the way in which the plant curves around the axe in the middle. I am going to incorporate some of these elements into my design.
I painted the flowers on to the blade instead of adding it onto the model, it adds a nice touch to it

Flat Shaded Assets
Flat shaded plate of ice cream sundae
Out of the references collected I quite liked the ones in which the banana acts as a barrier around the ice cream and fruits, rather than as a base. Also, the whipped cream is a nice touch as it creates a variation of heights to the plate of food - so I shall be incorporating that into my asset too.
I drew the ice cream and fruits in different arrangements to find which would look most appealing and have decided upon having the three main scoops enclosed by bananas and have other fruits scattered around

Life Drawings
Here are the sketches for the life drawing classes from this year. I have also included some sketches I had done outside of class.
Finished
Here is the finished version of the scene.
I feel we have done very well in this project and were able to create a room that was able to show the personality of the character; from the cluttered room, to the lack of space and the many many books scattered around.
For this project I had the role as a 3D modeller and concept artist.
Animation and Texturing
Here are all the textured assets that I made and some lighting tests done by my partner with all the objects in place in Unity.
The assets were made in Maya and then textured in Substance Painter. Also, the texture pack that was used for the walls was not made by me, but downloaded from the internet.
It would have been nice if the potted plant animation was able to work in Unity, but alas it was not meant to be.

Modelling and Visual Development
Here are some concept sketch and colours for the assets as well as labelled blockout and floor plan for the room.
The blockout was done in Maya whilst the sketches and floorplan was done in Photoshop.
Concept and Character Profile
For this project we have to create a VR scene in which the character is able to interact with some objects in the environment. I am working alongside Valanka and we decided to create a room inspired by the birdman character.
Asset list:
Window seat
Floors, walls and stairs
Window grills
Dome ceiling
Books and bookshelf and shelves
Birdcage
Harp
Vials and flasks
Photo frames
Magnifying glass
Table and chair
Carpet
Floating lights
Paper weight
Plants (potted and vines)
Lamps
Shisha Pipe

Challenge 3: Characters in Situ
The reference we chose for this project was a cat in a tutu and this cat has found a new passion with swordsmanship.
For this project I designed the stand whilst my partner, Valanka, designed the cat.
Both Z-brush and Maya was used to make the plinth and though Z-brush was quite awkward to use at the beginning, once I became familiar with the program it was considerably easier.
Challenge 2: Artists Garden
This garden scene was inspired by the artist Alfred Kubin. His paintings typically contained very few muted colours and large amounts of empty sparse areas. His work often featured dark and morbid themes. The garden has done well to reflect the depressing and desolate atmosphere his artworks bring.
For this project I made the black and white concept art and some assets: sculpture, rocks, headstones, room and stairs.
The assets were modeled in Maya and the scene was built in and recorded in Unity.

Final Render
Here is the final render for the lip-sync animation project
Breakdowns, Anticipations & Follow Through
Here are the follow throughs of the animation as well as a face cam to follow along with the audio of what is said.
Lip Sync Animation as Character Performance
Here are the three key poses for the beats of speech in stepped tangents. The visimies for the mouth shapes are 'loo', 'yah', 'dah'.
Texturing and Rendering
Here are the final pieces.
I am pleased with the results.
