Happy birthday to Gustav Klimt, born on this day in 1862.
Donât miss a rare opportunity to see Klimtâs âFrauenbildnis (Portrait of a Woman)" in Gallery 158, on loan to the Museum from The Lewis Collection. Klimt began this piece in 1917 but it was discovered unfinished in the artistâs studio after his death in February 1918âyouâll notice this work is sketchier than most of Klimtâs densely decorated canvases. It is thought to be his third work to portray Maria (âRiaâ) Munk, the daughter of Alexander and Aranka Pulitzer Munk, who had shot herself in 1911 at the age of 24, in despair over a lover.
