ezrah would be lying if he claimed he hadn't thought about hitting up the captain, but it would be unnecessarily awkward during lunch breaks if he wasn't interested & well, any other time they might meet, which.. was quite often actually. not ... proper meetings, but they crossed paths frequently. it'd barely been a month & ezrah didn't already want to make things weird between him & some of the other colonists - least of all those he liked tolerated. if that meant he had to bottle up the need that washed over him sometimes, he would. for now anyway. next week that might look entirely different. he couldn't remember the last time he went a whole fuckin' month without getting laid.

other than that this place was actually decent. strange to be stuck inside a building for all eternity, sure - but the food was fine & healthy, he got exercise & time to work out - he got to carry a weapon. pffht. life was quite good at base #011.

"hm." right, he remembered. shared quarters. that'd make eventual hookups quite a bit more complicated. not that ezrah had any qualms sneaking out of someone else's bedroom & back home. not if the lay was good anyway. but still, he didn't like that he had to put in effort into finding company when on earth he'd had a very steady influx of them. he shouldn't be thinking about this now, but anders did fall into his ...type, in a way. tall, broad - surely not afraid of him, like many ... many others were in the past. "gonna be a nightmare." that was... for sure. knowing his luck, he'd be tossed into the same unit as some snobby little rich kid boy whose daddy bought him a ticket so he didn't have to spend any more time around the spoiled brat he realized he didn't raise properly. the little tap & tease under the table didn't go unnoticed & he returned it with a little wiggle of his foot. Not complicated at all, the Captain would disagree. He's an interesting man to argue with; very certain and opiniated kind. Shared quarters only make eventual hookups complicated if you've got something to hide from your roommate. From where he's standing, this experiment program made it very clear the men were not meant to shy from one another. Sex-segregated societies have always been of interest to sexologists; they're like psychologists, except honest about what they're really interested in [...] everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power. THE MOON, remote as an island, walls confining as a prison, dynamic as a university. Leave men unchecked in any of three--let alone combined--they will fuck. One thing's for certain. They'll fuck. A period of turmoil, fuck & tug, pull & push, but eventually these societies fall into place in an unspoken hierarchy, each driven by their purpose and function, fulfilled by contributing to societal success. This, Anders understood fundamentally, intimately, deeply, with soul and conviction.

The banter opens Anders up to opportunity, hands place down his metal utensils back on his trays, leaning back in his seat to face Ezrah in earnest, focus on the friend he's making rather than lunch. They've still got an hour to kill. NO REGRETS, NO SHITS GIVEN is how he likes them. He can read that much from Ezrah's tells, and has a good sense that they'll get around together a ton, San Anton.

"Why wait, ah?" He asks the security guard, real direct, and yes, that's a gun his pocket. Charming-blue eyes crash landing onto Ezrah's eyes, brows perked up. Shoulders shrug up, why not, as his shoe responds in kind to the shuffle, sliding over Ezrah's ankle and lower calf, teasing him. "Don't be shy. Y'wanna occupy my bed? I'll take ya." Shameless flirt, gunslinger's smirk shooting through the heart, aging Hollywood silver star demeanor, ready-made to impress and captivate.

Monty hadn’t realized how on edge he had been feeling until he was talking to someone else. It was a surprisingly grounding experience, which might have been in part to feeling comforted by seeing a man in uniform. It was something he was surprised he was into, but evidently this experiment would be full of surprises that weren’t just the obvious ones that come with living on the moon. The thought of what else he might find out gave Monty a sense of excitement that he had been missing for quite some time. 

Hearing the playful tone to the other’s voice was surprising, but definitely welcomed by Monty. It was a good sign that indicated that the two would likely get along just fine. “Just doing your job seems like a tiny bit of an understatement, if you’d ask me,” he smiled over at the other. “At least I get to have some easy days in my line of work to offset the crazy ones. Do you ever have normal tasks or is it strictly serious space missions?” 

Having a drink with his new acquaintance seemed just like what he needed. In all honestly, he would go nuts if he had to be on call twenty-four seven on the based. So, he made the executive decision to clock himself out for the night. Monty had a feeling he wouldn’t regret doing that regardless of what happens. “Yeah, I think that sounds like a great idea. What could go wrong?” He joked, sure that Anders understood that a lot could go wrong as much as he did. Monty started heading down the corridor that the other man gestured to before he continued. “I’m sure they’ll follow them. You seem like the kind of guy that knows how to get people to do as you say. I know I would.”

Can't blame you, Doc. I really get it, personally. Intimately. A man in uniform is truly something else. Stern authority, grace, discipline. Sense of responsibility. Good bet on where to start exploring these surprises the lunar colony were going to be faced with in the coming days.

What could go wrong is the question that stops scaring you after a while. Heroics are derived from disasters, men don't become distinguished in peacetime. Surgeons don't save lives that weren't critical to begin with. So, yeah... close calls, heartbreak, heartache, lives at stake. A whole lot could go wrong but emergencies are dealt as best you can with what you have and who's at hand. And their hands--this symbol of capacity, dexterity, talent--are present. Anders concurs, and would like to believe Monty gets it.

The Captain raises his goddamn right brow, hold up now, smirk that's just so at home--this kind of talking being really his alley. Anders would never disagree that he's the kind of guy that gets people to do as they're told, but "Y'know you would? Ah, fuck, Doc." He's laughing now, walking alongside Monty to the bar, shaking his fucking head in disbelief. The things you hear around here. Tales from your local space station. He likes what he's hearing, of course, it's very promising. Anders extends his arms out for Monty to take in a very gentlemanly fashion, if he would. Now it's a formal walk to station's bar, make it a date, he's interested. "Well, then, Dr. Evans. If you'd please. Shall we?"

he knew half the colony would be actively chatting, trying to get to know each other - trying to get into the other person's head, into their mind & understand the way they ticked, but ezrah didn't need to. he didn't want to. he took people for how they presented themselves & didn't give a lot of shits for what was underneath. by the time he found that out, he was usually gone again, although in this place he was aware it wouldn't be that easy & yet, he'd managed to spend the entire first month - ok, close to the first month, without finding out anything he didn't ask for from other people.

sure, he was observant - so he would always learn a thing or two about others simply by watching them go about their days, but there were worse things to get hung up on. anders was the ideal guy for the kind of lifestyle ezrah held - even on the moon. he didn't ... poke. not too hard anyway & he didn't nag. he didn't chew his ear off either, which was nice. all in all, he enjoyed lunch break.

that joke - bad as it was, did make him crack a smile & if anders listened close enough, he might've been able to hear the softest of chuckles, too. "funny." most of the colonists stayed at the base full-time, but anders was one of few who'd traverse regularly & ezrah wondered if he ever thought about not coming back when he picked up resources from home. old home? something like that. it'd only been a month & he was likely going to start struggling much later on - if he ever did, but ezrah would remain curious. he'd lie if he claimed he hadn't found himself thinking about earth. "next time you're there, tell them we need some adults at the colony, too." sooner or later, ezrah would find himself ... lacking company & with the current set-up here.. he was screwed.

ezrah had his mouth full when anders spoke up again, so a hand came up in a little gimme a sec motion & when he was done, he offered a little shrug. "not yet. they're still busy explorin'." the colony. each other. he really didn't care much. although he did wonder if everybody here was into guys - like he was, or if straight guys had accepted to starting a new life in a colony of men. not a question he felt like throwing into the group, but he definitely was curious. "better look out for space pirates next time you're out there." quick glance to his watch. good. he had about twenty minutes left. unless he skipped decompression phase. then he had about .. hmmm... an hour. that'd depend on the quality of his company, truly. he knew he should try getting information - he knew that that was the norm, but he just .. didn't feel like prying.

"we all got the same rooms?" again, curiosity. someone as important as anders would surely be sleeping more comfortable than the rubble, wouldn't he?

Exploring each other is a deft way to put it. Even more so is his deft way of putting it in. You interested? He makes good on all promises. Just pulling your leg. They converse taking turns having a mouth full, reasonably decent for cafeteria-style food on the base. Anders guesses as much, that the project couldn't exactly spare expenses for a basic comfort of living such a food, since there were rather... more mild guests here at base, that either paid for entry through their sheer wealth, or drew lucky in the lottery. Either way, a ticket off this planet for those who were not accustomed to a stricter regime in life. The program could not make them live like military men, now. The Captain recalls they'd even transported a real chef to run these kitchens, do what they can with the supplies they ship on the way up here, or hydroponically grown. Eventually, of course, the lunar colonies were meant to be independently successful, if extraterrestrial colonization is how we survive and prosper. Which leads into Ezrah's joke about space pirates--not yet, Anders would've told him, as spacefaring was just not yet accessible to just anyone, but over time, as the conflicts on Earth intensify, and the desperation sets in, the lunar colonies may be targets in the future.

"Yep." Anders addresses the question right on straight. Rather bold concept, no? But he's interested in what the program had in store. Everybody getting the same amount of access to anything, equally available. So, yes, even someone as important as Anders would be out here with the rabble--your words. Don't let the well-pressed, medal tabbed uniform fool you, he can be a real rowdy cowboy, too. The orderly, strict, and imposing officer's demeanor is just a job, right? We can all be a little more loose than what we appear to be, ain't it so, puppy. "Same structured units 'cross the board. We'll be getting roommate assignments shortly. Your own bedroom, but sharin' the rest of the unit with another. You, me, the staffmen, the residents--everybody gets the same around here."

"Worried y'might live with some unbearable upper class boy-bitch?" He jokes with a grin and chuckle, hard black leather officer's shoes teasing Ezrah with a light kick and tap on his foot under the table.

As strange as it might have been, or seemed, to be so unphased by the sheer magnitude of that particular moment-- stepping foot into a space station, with an eternity of stars and emptiness a mere window away from him, without a care in the world; more concerned with making small talk and having a passing conversation with a man he didn't know rather than taking in the monumental moment he was currently experiencing. Blu had an almost intimate relationship with chaos. Peace was something, he learned, he could only find in the bottom of a bottle or wrapped in tight rolling papers. From a young age he found ways to distract himself; ways to hide from the noise. It made the hard nights easier but, unfortunately, it also made moments like this seem like just another day; he was so good at avoiding it all that he couldn't seem to turn it off even if he wanted too.

"Oh, I'm always the bridesmaid. You'd think that would bother me but I don't think I would look good in that much white. Give the two of us sometime though and, hey, maybe you'll prove me wrong." He quipped back without a second of hesitation. "I'd say it's a pleasure to meet you, Captain, but I was hoping you were more of the bachelorette party fodder; mostly because that would mean your uniform is held together with velcro." He added on with a quick, easy wink and a soft laugh as his lips pulled into a wider, more amused smirk.

Most men finding love at first sight are really just running from something. "So I take it you are not a dreamer, then." There was a playfulness in his eyes, still, even as his features and posture hardened a bit. You know, some people would consider this an honor; getting to see Blu be serious about something. "I wouldn't say I am either, though. I like to think I'm quick to adjust to things but that's mostly because I've never been given the choice not to be."

Now he really needed that smoke; or a drink; or a fuck-- just something to take his mind away from where it was wandering to.

"--You know, circling back to my being a bridesmaid-- or a princess. I actually like that one better; comes with more money and nicer dresses," he mused as he sank back into his usual demeanor. "--anyway, another benefit to not being the bride is that I'm not really tied to anyone so there's no harm in having some fun; and you look like you could use some O Captain my Captain."

It's apparent in a man's eyes, when the mind behind them starts going down places he doesn't want to. The urge to shake it off and distract, running away from something, maybe. The Captain never misses, you know? He's a target a-fucking-cquired old bastard. Struck hundreds of military targets back in his day looking through nothing but a somewhat reliable little camera from thousands of feet high in the sky.

He knows what Blu means by that, some fun. What he's really raising his brow at is that he looks like he could use some. Does he now? He's right, of course, it's an arduous trip on the crew side of things. More focus, on high alert the entire time to ensure the flight is successful and uneventful. The other side of the looking glass, pray be that the passengers never really know how eventful spaceflight can be. He's fairly exhausted, and the years go by, body and resolve don't become any younger. He's built like a Roman bull, sure, but even then, men weren't meant to fly through space regularly. It's not a crime to be tired. He could use some. The Captain stares at Blu with his right brow raised at him but a telling smirk on the right corner of his lips.

"Huh. Do I, now..." it's already decided, he's just playing now, body turning away from the docking bay windows and toward Blu, arms still behind his back, posture straight and regal, like an officer should. "Alright. I could use some. Entertain me, then, princess." He says as he walks towards the man, passing by him at his side, head tilting toward Blu's face to whisper that teasing princess in his ear. He moves past him, head nodding forward toward the direction he is moving, gesturing for Blu to follow him.

life here in the colony was starting to feel ... normal, up to a certain degree. he assumed it never would be entirely normal, but with time it'd feel like home. not that ezrah really knew what home even meant. he'd spent the first week getting familiar with the layout of the colony, had memorized everything he possible could & familiarized himself with possible escape routes should they be infiltrated, attacked, affected by a power outage or be facing trouble from the colonists.

a group of men locked up together on a strange planet sure seemed to guarantee issues eventually. or maybe not - who could tell? ezrah sure as hell took his job seriously, as did he his lunch breaks. everything had its assigned time frame. so at exactly 12:15, ezrah was sat inside the administration section - at a table with his lunch neatly organized in front of him, but he wasn't alone.

after the first week, he found himself with a companion during lunch time & honestly, he was not unhappy. most of the colonists were .... young. it was nice to have at least someone close to his age by his side & the captain .. was good company indeed, or maybe he was simply biased because once upon a time they could've been neighbors. nah. it definitely was the former. "any tours comin' up?"

He liked doing a little people-watching, in the same fashion that folks back home would do bird-watching: take in the sights, the colors, the textures, feathers taking flight. Watch their patterns, behaviors, their song. What makes them tick? Uninspiringly, it was sex, actually. The beautiful forest symphony birds sing is... mostly just for mating. Good ol' nature. Everyone's looking for a fuck. Men, too, no exception. Twelve fifteen. Exactly when daytime shift goes on break, and there he is, the ol' gentleman he's become acquainted with, often sitting in the same cold, sterile white table abord the station. The men's table, as he'd call it. Mind you, the whole lunar colony was comprised entirely of men, Anders is just... assertive and patriotic that way. Military men and the likes, is what he meant by the men's table. They're a lot more like the Mean Girls than they'd care to admit or even realize. Captain Anders took note of the security staffman arriving in orderly time & fashion at twelve fifteen. Twenty seven days in a row. Fascinating.

Sitting down at the table across him, still in uniform, elegantly covering his lap with a white cloth, could almost be mistaken for fine dining if this wasn't just yet another damn lunch break for working men. It's not that serious. A healthy, hearty lunch that he's proud to have helped put on this table. Supply shipments to-and-from the colonies is vital for the survival of both worlds, with increasing mercantile and military routes over the last few years. Humanity banks on these extraterrestrial colonies succeeding for its survival, it's no small feat to have lunch of the moon. Even if it's twelve fifteen somewhere, every day: in space, everything is less trivial and more miracle. Just like finding a man more your age around here, god fucking damn, that is an act of God. It's been mostly just small talk over the month or so they've been permanently living here, give or take a couple grumpy nods or grunts during the workday.

"Tours?" It brings him back to his glory days, his tours of duty in the military. No shortage of wars to be had on Earth. Up here, it's... easy to forget. Looking out the window at Earth, it looks unremarkably still, like a painting in frame. Painted blue instead of red. "Yeah, Metallica's gon' come perform here on the Moon for their retirement tour, now." He jokes and raises his brow at Ezrah across the table with his eyes down at his plate, anticipating the first spoonful. He knows what Ezrah meant, just pulling his leg, or busting his balls, or... I don't know, why is there to many expressions for this? "Same old. Becomin' routine. Just preparin' for my week out on duty. Return to Earth, pick up the next round o' pretty boys, crew, supplies... then right back, I guess. Routine. Nothing quite like space exploration back in the day. Ah, I was there, too, real space cowboy in the final frontier. Now days, I'm just drivin' shit around." A smirk, a spoonful, deep breath, routine. "How's guard duty? Any malcontents getting feisty now that they're all settlin' in?"
