Yesterday I was troubleshooting a Tascam Porta One 4-track cassette recorder for a friend and I found a bad capacitor shorting the VE+ to one of the operational amplifiers to ground. Always feel great to repair old gear and give them a few more years! :-)
My amazing opponent on my defense shared this amazing range anxiety clip where Kramer gets excited about driving a car on almost an empty fuel tank :-) It has a lot of relevance for electric driving!
Doodling around with electronics
In the spring I was playing around with some smith triggers to make a simple square wave oscillator, this was then extended with a sequencer. Now that I have my Serge synth up and running, I’m thinking about adjusting the sequencer so it outputs 0-5 volts through banana jacks.
Building a Serge synthesiser
This summer I have enjoyed myself by building a Serge synthesiser that’s now up and running. At least for the most part, 2 modules still needs to be wired. It’s been a lot of fun and I am would love to build another panel as soon as I get the time for it!

Our car trip with the Metaphone was amazing and very rewarding in many different ways ranging from positive publicity to interesting encounters with people, as well as, valuable comments on our work. Here are some pictures from the different exhibitions and also some of the drawings generated.

Final preparations for the Metaphone tour!
We are in the final stages of the preparation of the Metaphone tour that starts on tuesday this week. We will visit:
- 25 April. EMAF festival in Osnabruck, Germany
- 29 April - 2 May. CHI interactivity in Paris
- 4 May. Den Frie art centre in Copenhagen.

The smart citizen urban sensor kit left some open questions.
The studio was slow and too much into their mud of technical specifications and problems with the smart citizens urban sensor kit, it should have been more practical. The smart citizen boards seams thoroughly build and the main leonardo-based(Arduino) board with wifi and all the energy handling parts making it easy to connect to a variety of energy sources are positive. Also all the efforts of making it super simple to connect any type of solar panel is great. The sensors board seems decently built, but still leave open questions regarding calibrations etc., in particular regarding the CO and NO2 units that need recalibration every once in a while using expensive equipment. The noise sensor unit seem to be working okay with a simple estimation functioning acceptably between 70 and 105 dB. In total, those things leave the board useful for identifying trends but not for exact reliable measures. However, the biggest question mark regards the value of sensing these kind of values, it is unclear to us what type of interaction this data could lead to? And the usefulness of this very passive data collection tool? Could it really be a interesting add-on to already existing data? In what way would this empower the so called smart citizens that they imagine in the smart citizens project?How does this passive ready-made technology actually make people smarter? Are citizens interested in buying a simple circuit board without proper casing for 150 EUR just to sense this stuff? Some of us certainly were left puzzled with what we could do with this stuff as participants of the workshop and had a hunch that this was more driven by technology than from a need of some sort. A final comment, to get to know the COSM services was interesting, the service seams versatile and useful and we need to take a closer look into what this could offer us in our existing projects.
I am at the From Microcontrollers to Cities studio at TEI 2013 in Barcelona! We are getting a thorough walk through of the new urban sensor kit at one of the FAB Lab in the area. We are actually the first ones to try one of these and bring home to start sensing stuff!

Processing.js,c custom fonts and pjs directives
Hello,
I have been doing a bunch of processing.js prototypes lately and mostly it works like a charm. However, I have been struggling with adding pjs directives for loading a custom font as that have crashed my communication between the javascript and the sketch, set up following the Pomax Guide. It seams like the problem has to do with the sketch not being fully loaded when I call some of the functions in the sketch from the javascript/HTML side as it complains about missing functions etc.

However, after reading the documentation about the pjs directives and realised that this was for declaring "outside the sketch" or "to be handled by the browser" instructions, I though of skipping it and actually do it outside the sketch. Now it seams like I have gotten things to work by skipping the pjs directive to load the font, and instead prefetch the font in the head of my HTML file. It seams to work in the current version of Chrome, Opera, Firefox and Safari.
