hi friends! some of you know i went to the vet today with my dog to look at his knees and hips, which were fine –– however, we’ve discovered a large cancerous tumor in his leg instead and he’ll be going in for surgery on monday. as you can imagine, this has been a bit.. much to process. i’m currently between calls with my lawyer, the adoption agency, and the insurance company, so i won’t be on much for the next couple of days !! please don’t think i’m ignoring any of you or that i don’t want to plot, i just have to make sure my little buddy gets through this. love u all

gabe delicately pushed a tree branch out of his way, revealing a narrow trail split off from the paved path that zig-zagged through the entirety of the gardens. ducking into the small opening he had created, he grasped tightly onto the straps of the backpack secured to his back. following the less-beaten path down a bit, he stopped when he came across his favorite willow tree, setting his backpack next to the trunk of the tree. his back pressed against the soft bark of the tree as he sank to the ground, tucking his knees up to his chest. it was easily his favorite spot in the town. somehow, the noises of the patron’s of the gardens were muted and the only audible sound was the trickling of a nearby water fountain. the brunette had discovered this place during his first couple months in italy, and he used it as his escape from the world; a place to hide out and read in solitude for a while. retrieving his most recent novel from his backpack, he was only able to get a few sentences in before his serenity was broken by the sound of another pair of footprints coming down the path. “can i help you ??” he asked, not even shifting his gaze from his book, his voice sounding slightly more annoyed than he intended it to.

 “ excuse me? ”   she halts, shooting gabe a decidedly contentious look once she recognizes that it’s him.  she’s never had to explain herself for simply walking the gardens before –– even though they wouldn’t usually be open at this time of year. certainly, gabe shouldn’t be one to judge.    “ you’re the one sitting in a tree in the freezing cold, no? what are you doing? stomping on dead plants? ”

   °☆.。WINE, sometimes that was the best thing around here for him. at days where he felt down and where he was not on duty, he had always preferred to just have a drink over going out to go clubbing. despite dante not being a fancy man, the italian wine was to him magical. all was going rather well, until people decided to start a fight in the middle of it. not paying much attention until the one of the employees gave him a helpless look. for most people here knew that dante was an officer and they were not scared to ask for help. so he pulled on his jacket, making his way over to those who were childish enough to start a fight in aperitivi and he roughly stepped in between the two, soon the two felt defeated and started whining over yelling, so he just kicked them out which they weren’t too fond of. looking quite exhausted as he made his way back to his seat, looking at the person next to him. ‘ people have gone insane. it’s ridiculous what alcohol can do to people. disgusting. ’

     she’s leaned back in her seat, passively listening to her friends bicker and laugh about some news she’s been too tired to keep up with; she won’t allow whatever is going on outside of this place, here and now, to rile her up. nights at the aperitivi are for talking and drinking, not worrying. not fighting, ideally, either ––– it’s rare enough that she’s taken aback when the two men start going at each other in the middle of the bar. it doesn’t much move her beyond that though, and adriana reacts with little more than a shrug at the words of the police officer next to her. 

    “ you think old men are going to drink, and then just chat and play? ”    she sighs ; not at him, exactly, but it’s not like she makes an effort to explain or excuse herself either.     “ it doesn’t mean anything –– they probably became friends again right outside the door. ”

   °☆.。AFTER DOMINIC, decided that he wanted to stay longer he had made his way over to ferry jetty, where he decided to ask for a job. knowing that he might as well take up a job now he decided to stay here for over a few months, yet he got rudely declined by someone saying that they were not going to offer him a job for the fact he was a tourist. something he, of course, could understand but he did have to make money one way or another. ‘ are you.. sure that you don’t need a barista or something ?? or someone to help out with flyers or posters for eve- ’ once again interrupted by a loud NO. facial expression of sadness clear on his face. ‘ – alright, alright. i got the hint – ’ yet they continued yelling at him for being rather annoying, stupid and loud while dominic had never raised his voice. ‘ i got it, alright.. ’ going off, to get coffee at the kiosk as he mumbled softly. ‘ tourists get treated like shit here, don’t they ?? it’s weird how quick they lost their damn patience. ’

     on the rare occasion that she has time off on a weekday during daytime, lydia has been making an effort to really explore the city and get familiar. it’s the least she can do if she’s going to stay here for a year –– though she’s not quite come to grasp with the magnitude of all that quite yet. for now, she’s unbothered, strolling along, occasionally coming across something interesting, and occasionally coming across someone interesting. while she normally wouldn’t classify whining as particularly captivating, something about the despairing expression of the man who crosses her path has her, for now, strangely invested. 

    “ you okay buddy? ”    she asks, casually chewing her gum and slowing to a halt.     “ –– trying to fight some townsfolk? ”

“ no… no, no… ” like an excited child in disneyland, wide eyed and curious, hanson lifted his iphone, snapping pictures of the bird in front of him. “ a chukar partridge… native to italy, alectoris chukar… i never thought i’d see one. ” it was taking all of his energy to not ask the person beside him to take a photo of him and the bird. that one would have to wait for day three. instead, he opted for a solid, “ pretty, right? ”

    “ a what? ”    she thought she’d have heard it all from tourists by now, but this is something entirely different. her gaze shifts from him, to this supposedly wondrous bird, and then back to him again,     “ i’ve never seen one like that before. ”     normally, she might just go with it, but this seems almost too easy.    “ are you sure they’re from here? ”

         it was a blessing mars’ job never required him to work nights. he was always done before seven and he appreciated that. of course, he had a tendency to linger with those whom he’d stricken a conversation with, but he still got out in a timely manner. wandering out the tour building with a cigarette between his fingers, lighting it quickly, he’s pull his light jacket tighter around him.  his stomach was rumbling. for a person’s who job it was to know the ins and the outs of the city, he had no idea where to eat. approaching someone who didn’t seem too lost in their own world, he smiled.   “ not to bother, but i’m a bit conflicted. i have no idea what i want to eat. “   he cracks a smile, flicking some ash off his cigarette.   “ i’m not really in the mood for italian. “   he chuckles.

     it’s not uncommon for her to linger in town after school; it’s not like there’s anything to do back home anyway. she’s read all the books in the library –– listened to all the records in the study. it’s gotten old, just lounging. adriana much prefers the streets of bellagio, as strange as it may seem to those who know her. she’s not looking to talk to anyone, exactly, which may be why she initially recoils at being addressed so suddenly : she stops in her tracks, pulling the sleeves of her sweater down to cover her hands and keep them warm. 

     “ you don’t think you’re in the wrong place, then? ”    she can’t help it, honestly, truly –– and half-heartedly tries to remedy the initial spiteful response with a smile, albeit sort of tired.     “ there’s the trattoria san giacomo, i guess –– if you know where that is? ”

     in the eyes of faye, there was something so pure about the art of baking. nothing could truly parallel the feeling of gratification of tasting whatever creation was rising in the oven. despite her love for baking, faye didn’t really have MUCH of a kitchen, which is probably why she found herself wandering into adrianna’s house much more often than what was probably polite. “are you here ?” faye called out as she practically barged into the house, “i come bearing ingredients, which are LITERALLY a recipe for fun.”

     among the many striking attributes of the villa calvetti, the kitchen isn’t quite one of them –– it serves its purpose, and its sheer size makes it a natural point of interest, but adriana would never call it charming. it’s too clean, almost out of place compared to the otherwise rustic decór. though it is certainly ideal for having people over. adriana sits ( see : lays across ) by the kitchen table when faye eventually arrives, and she’s just excited enough to get up to greet her friend. 

     “ in the kitchen, ”     she calls out, swiftly making her way over to counter to put away a couple of dirty dishes she’s left around over the weekend. lord knows how she’d be living if it weren’t for the maid.    “ literally?! you know ––– i’ve been waiting, and the oven is already heated.. ”

“i know you’re going to say i look like a mess, but have you ever tried to rest with five cats on heat? welcome to the last twenty-four hours of my shift.” thomas rubs his eyes wearily as he plops down by the nearest chair. “if you’re here to tell me i look like shit, rest assured that i know.” 

“ why are you resting with cats to begin with ..  ”   trailing off, adriana squints ; she’s not exactly expecting, or hoping, for an answer. there are simply too many things he does that she can’t wrap her head around. “ i’ve never said that .. never. ”    she’s pretty sure, anyway ––– enough to walk after him as he goes to take a seat, sort of trudging along with her hands in her pockets & a tired smile.   “  you just look tired, ”

bianca stands off to the side, arms loosely crossed and a half-empty beer bottle dangling from one hand. she’s part of an impromptu audience for an impromptu live performance by a group of early twenty-somethings, streetlamps casting their soft glow on faces. two guys drum on overturned wooden crates, another plays the guitar, and there’s a girl playing the violin, bow bouncing over the strings with precision. a couple dances in the center, then another and another join the small space; the energy is practically infectious.

“ they’re pretty good, right? ” she asks the nearest person. ( she and the rest of the band, however, are more than just pretty good. ) “ but i bet, ” she adds, playful smile curving at her lips, “ you would be even better. ”

“ yeah, the second best band in this whole alley.. ”   she’s biased, perhaps, but who wouldn’t be? laughing still, she can’t help but roll her eyes at bianca’s proposal.    “ you bet? you don’t know for sure? bee ––– gosh!! ”    feigning offence is easy enough. she leans against the stone wall behind them, arms crossed and head cocked to the side, a thoughtfully cheeky expression on her features.    “ are you saying you want to take me for a swing? ”

aaliyah huffed, a combination of anger and disappointment putting a damper on her mood. her wet clothes were hanging off her body, leaving a trail of water wherever she went. many were staring ( hell, a few even laughed ) but she tried to keep her composure as she trudged out of pescallo. recognizing a familiar face, she approached them with a small (forced) smile on her face. “hey - can i borrow your phone? i just..need to text someone to tell them i’m alive if they don’t hear from me for a bit.” liyah shook her head in disbelief. “i’m not entirely sure why i thought kayaking would be for me. long story short - i flipped the fuckin’ kayak over. phone got RUINED. i feel like a dumbass.”

“ don’t you need .. like .. a towel first ? ”   while her phone might allegedly  be waterproof –– lydia knows better than to trust apple forums. there’s genuine concern to her statement too, of course: it’s cold out these days.  “ i can’t lie .. it’s a little funny .. but maybe we should get you inside ? ”   she thinks of the downstairs bathroom in the janitorial wing of the hotel. it should be empty right now.  “ you know the way to the hotel, right ? ”

“ is it bad i don’t .. really .. know who frank muniz is ?? i mean –– frankie ? ”   she looks up, sort haplessly blankfaced after her own admission.    “ i saw shia was doing that .. uh, american honey ? that one looks great. i think he’s a treasure. ”

    “do you ever just go online shopping and end up buying a bunch of things you’ll never ever use? because i just bought this huge pink sparkling faux fur coat but – when will i ever get a chance to wear something that extra around here? never, i will tell you. i mean, i guess i could, but there are limits even to my level of extra.”

“ i don’t think anyone cares that much what you wear. ” she doesn’t anyway. the ‘ extra ’ isn’t exactly limited to just what lia wears. “ you could wear it at the alley, if you wanted. ” adriana has a sneaking suspicion that she doesn’t ––– that the novelty of just having things it what really appeals to her. but that’s neither here nor there, really. she simply rolls her eyes. “ or you could just .. return it. ”

“I just got told I’m too old to be building pillow forts. I don’t think I’ve ever been betrayed like this?” Gigi complains, walking in to work. It’s after twelve, so she’s actually awake, but she’s more than ready to hightail it out of this place and spend the rest of her afternoon working on that fort. She ties the apron around her waist glumly. “How’s your day going? Any better than mine?”

“ aren’t you ? i mean –– ” as far as betrayal goes, adriana might go so far as to call this warranted ; she doesn’t, obviously, for lack of interest in further stirring things up. she simply shrugs, and sort of sighs as she nods absentmindedly. “ it’s been a day, i guess. i just hate going on the ferry when it’s cold, but it could be worse. are you working right now? ”
