Hello! I'm Yomi and I'm new to Tumblr! I grew up watching Star Trek Enterprise, then Voyager, and then Deep Space Nine. When I was a little older, I watched every Star Trek show and then rewatched everything again and again! I love it so much! So I wanted to make a Tumblr account for Star Trek stuff! I have so much to say about it!

I study arts but especially how art relates to society and vice versa. I think that's also why I find Star Trek and the society it is portraying so interesting! All the different aliens with their different ways of life are so fascinating to me! And then there's the way the Star Trek series all discuss very sensitive social topics wrapped in the guise of "it's happening to aliens" but it's actually something that happens on Earth nowadays. And the way Star Trek is progressive with gender, race issues, lgbtq+ stuff, neurodivergency... The show is such a safe space for me! I can go on and on.

I tried to make this an introduction post but now I'm just rambling about how cool and interesting Star Trek is. If you uh agree or something, feel free to comment or follow because I'd love to make friends on here!

We can also see that Nog and Julian Bashir both capped out at the rank of lieutenant. For Bashir that makes sense. With the augment reveal, I figure his career was pretty much over post Dominion war. Nog though… that surprises me. I was sure he’d make captain.

I'm reading the scriptwriters' guide for TOS and it's cracking me up in many places. It's so obvious that, from the very beginning, they were already aware of so many of the issues people complain about today.

First there's a multiple choice quiz, what's wrong with this scene?

Answer: C! Absolutely Kirk would not hug the yeoman at this point! That's unprofessional!

The Prime Directive gets explained. As I keep telling people, it's not never broken, it's just supposed to only be broken for very good reasons.

For people wondering how to write a stardate: you make up some numbers!

No saluting! Yes optimism!

There is so much "think of the budget" in here. Yes you can use the shuttle bay but only if it's relevant, we have to use miniatures. Yes you can have a space suit but please don't ask for zero gravity. And where aliens are concerned, you can have some makeup but please focus on the interior differences not just tentacles!

Honestly I think Spock is a better alien than, say, Jabba the Hutt, because as human as he looks, he's much more different on the inside. People like to dismiss Star Trek aliens as "forehead of the week" but it's kind of a stage shorthand for "we're about to discover a unique culture, these people are different from you in ways you might not expect."

There's something so charming about a stack of PADDs in star trek because you know tablets didn't exist yet back then but they didn't want to use paper because it's not futuristic enough but they also want to show that they have a lot of paperwork to do thus the stack of PADDs which presumably was like a hybrid of stack of paper + floppy disks of the future. The retrofuterism of it all, I love it.
