Dear J/C authors,

Why do so many of you write Janeway as if she’s like 4 feet (1.2m) tall? Kate Mulgrew is slightly above average height for a woman in the U.S. 🤨

Well, Chakotay is 7 inches taller than Kathryn.

Standing close, that's quite a lot and can feel like even more.

I think with Janeway it's also that she's got this larger than life personality in this pretty tiny body. That contrast it quite striking.

Also don't forget that Mulgrew wears high heeled boots (she states 4 inches) with her uniform. Without them, she'd appear significantly smaller. Allegedly, they did screen tests with flat boots but that made her look like "Napoleon" (Mulgrew's words, if I remember correctly) and she agreed that it wasn't a good look.

So, in-universe, imagine Kathryn taking off her boots and she appears even smaller to him. Since it's J/C, I imagine he looks quite fondly at her and considers her cute. To which she replies that Starfleet captains aren't cute.

And about her seeming cute and Chakotay saying that to her, and her replying that Starfleet captains/admirals aren't cute, that's more than just my headcanon, it's in the drafts of a fanfic I'm writing. I think that's exactly what she would answer 😂🤌🏻 But, in my case, she answers that when he comments that he likes her freckles, and that makes her cute 🫠
